Sorry @Dydegu, I'll take your role this time

I'm not very well-versed on the press releases, but have they ever released that many things via a press release? And have they ever released a newly designed product via press release? I guess the magic accessories were new, just not anything earth-shattering. But those are accessories.

Redesigns, I don't think so. Spec updates, yes.

If they don't do a keynote they could have an embargoed Media event. They revealed a new version of OS X this way (I think it was Lion?).

As a shareholder, it's pretty obvious where they should focus their attention. They can sell more phones at a higher gross margin and also generate additional revenue from the myriad of services tied to these devices.

And the shareholders don't care about the "additional revenue" generated by a couple of million sold Macs (plus the services tied to these devices)? And that extra couple of million sold devices if they were somewhat up to date? I think they do.
But then it is possible that they don't know about this since they believe the shiny ads on Apple's website stating how amazing, stunning, high-performance, or whatever the devices are.
I'm not saying they're bad - but they could be a lot "younger". That would appeal to a lot more customers. And that would appeal to a lot of shareholders.

These phones just look all the same to me at this point. The new Google Pixel looks like an iPhone clone.

Tbh you're right. Google made a big mistake basing their design on the HTC MSeries design (HTC did manufacture this after all) - which Apple ripped off (reall they did, just a quick search of the iPhone 6 and HTC M8 should prove that). First time I saw the iPhone 6, HTC's M8 came to my mind. However thing is Apple's made the design famous, and so everyones gonna think it looks like the iPhone, which is a reasonable argument. I honestly think that Google should make a consistent shape for their phones (which I started to see with Nexus 5). Now they just went with the market.

Apple is popular because of distinct looking items. For example one can look at the MacBook Pro's rounded corners from far away and recognize it. And watch, those same rounded corners are going to be on the 2016 MBP and so on and so on, because its become distinct and recognizable.

I remember when MBP-imitations first started showing up in the early 2010s (this was when I was in middle school and looking for a new Windows laptop and couldn't find any I liked). They all had the rounded edges, mostly silver, minimalist design (for a PC) and yet had terrible trackpads and crummy TN panels. So it's hard for me to see something by another company that resembles an Apple product and not think it's going to be some poorer-quality imitation. I'm sure the Pixel is a decent phone, but it looks almost more like playing catch-up to Apple than something actually innovative. At least we can say other companies aren't necessarily wowing people with innovative designs at the moment :p

I honestly don't even want the design of the new MBP to change much. Just want that wide-gamut display most of all...

It's a numbers game.

Apple will sell about 75 million iPhones this year. They have an average price just shy of $700 and have a gross margin of about 45%.

Macs, on the other hand, will sell between 5 and 6 million units. They have an average price of about $1250 and a gross margin of only 25%.

As a shareholder, it's pretty obvious where they should focus their attention. They can sell more phones at a higher gross margin and also generate additional revenue from the myriad of services tied to these devices.

This is a valid point but for me there is no reason really for me to continue with an iphone if I dont use mac computers. I am in it for the way everything functions together, and if ther was no mac I would be going the surface direction. Which would mean goodbye ipad also. It has a snowball effect on my usage of the iphone and ios devices.

Nah man, iPhones are designed 2+ years in advance.

All non standard macbook pro 13 configurations are not available for pick up till October 19 in any of my local Los Angeles stores. Just a about a week or two ago i7, 16ram and 1tb Hd was available in most local stores for pick up.

Lol the sarcasm is strong in this one.
HTC One (unveiled late 2012)
iPhone 6 (unveiled late 2014)
;)

Ok well he said the M8, which was 2014

Also, you're wrong too because the HTC One in 2012 doesn't look like the iPhone 6. The HTC One M7 released on Oct 2013 looks like iPhone 6 (and only the back, and only the antenna lines, so basically not even similar from a design perspective).

So let's say I decide to order a custom config 13" the second it becomes available to pre-order. Idk the standard for the new MBP but let's say the only thing I want "custom" is 16GB RAM over 8GB RAM. So everything else is standard on the 13" except I want 16GB RAM with 256GB SSD. How long approximately (Do you guys believe) would it take to receive a customized model when you pre-order, over a standard pre-built model preorder?

They're all reporting from the same sources though - Gurman and Kuo; and both of those were from some time ago; the silence at the moment is deafening.

So many people in this thread have been driven to depression by the lack of announcements that anything short of a frontpage story every day on Mac Rumors is going to have people doubting an update this month.

Actually you're wrong. Correction: HTC One M7 released on Feb 2013 - images started to leak out in late 2012.

"He said M8"---well that would be me, and I couldnt remember if it was the M7 or M8 (doesnt matter both look the same). And to my eyes, the iPhone 6 looks heavily inspired by the HTC One M series due to the antenna lines and the all-aluminum back.

Anyways this isn't a question of whether I'm wrong or right. What you said previously is a falsifiable statement, meaning we don't know exactly how early Apple begins designing their phones. Never was a statement published by an Apple spokesperson that stated those specific details.

where is this guy that is visiting chinese forums? are there some new rumors about upcoming MacBooks?
Oh yeah. I remember he said something about the suppliers or something, maybe 60 pages back or something. Hopefully that person comes back with new info for us.

It's way more of a stretch to say Apple surfs the web for leaked images of competitor's phones, so they can make decisions about the design of their own.

Other than the antenna lines and metal construction, I wouldn't say the HTC One m7 or m8 look anything like the iPhone 6. Design is a very specific process. To the lay person, yes, both the m7 and iPhone 6 have antenna lines and are made of metal, so they'd say it looks similar, but if you look at the details, they are not similar at all.

You can argue Apple is late. You can argue Apple messed up when they chose the 2015 MBP's processor. But, given there's a whirlwind of rumors suggesting new MBPs are a month away, you can't claim Apple is "completely ignoring" Macs.

"Pumping out" models isn't really good for consumers anyway. All most people want is a capable machine with a thoughtful design. In my mind, the mindset of pumping out new Macs every year led to the subpar 2015 processor choice, and I'm expecting a powerful, well-designed MBP very soon.

If Apple doesn't release anything for another YEAR, maybe then all this hyperbole will have some truth to it.
And yet, they pump out new OS's every year - with sub par results. Wouldnt it make more sense to make safe, incremental updates to their hardware more often and slow down the release of major software updates?!?

Apple has always been OCD about their hardware. Even the design of stuff we don't see is done in meticulous detail.

If you look at the internals of the new Macbook, it looks amazing, even though no one sees it.

Ugh! My early 2011 MBP is getting glitchy on me again! I've had my logic/video card/board replaced on it twice already. Last week, and then again today, the glitches came back (strange confetti-like artifacts and colour bands, computer freezing up and not responding). I have a genius bar appointment tomorrow. We'll see what happens... :(

Mine is getting worse... often I can back out of it by disconnecting my 30" and quitting any apps triggering the dGPU but it's getting problematic when busy at work. Hurry up guys!

Get gfxCardStatus to keep track of when your dGPU is active and which apps are triggering it, that makes it a bit easier to manage:

Not sure what you're adding to my point. Yea, they've always been ocd about their hardware, yet never had the entire hardware line this out of date.
And why dont they have the same ocd approach to their software? The only thing they're ocd with on the software is making sure they release a new major update every year. Whats the logic there?

I went into Currys/Pc World (biggest Uk electrical retailer) in Manchester earlier and at the front of the store they have got a table with Macs and iPads on. Next to the 15 and 13 inch MBP and the MacBook Air they had put yellow post it notes on the display over the pricing signs with numbers on them. The 15 inch had 1 written next to it, the 13 inch pro 2, the Air had a note with "van" on it and the MacBook had one with "Rose Gold/Grey" written on it.

Absolutely no idea what to make of it but it looks like they are planning to do something with that display, I couldn't see the other side to see if there was anything near the iMacs.
