Apple events are almost always on the second working day of the week, which means Tuesday or Wednesday if the preceding Monday was a holiday. I don't expect this event to be as big as an iPhone or WWDC event, so I'm not super worried that we haven't seen anything about location reservations yet.

I just can't see an event the same week as the earnings call. But my track record is horrible, so take that for what it is.

I've still got my money on 10/18, and I'll stick to that unless we don't see any invites by 10/11.

I think 10/18 is a likely date

That best buy thing is really strange. I thought it was an error, but why correcting the processor and leaving it there?

I think the 27th is possible, the 24th is possible, the 18-20th is possible.

anyone have a reason to rule out one of these days?

2016 MBPs are shipping this month.

The earnings call is now on the 25th. did you mean 24th?

i forgot about the earnings call on the 25th. that changes my predictions a bit.

tuesday october 18th or thursday october 20th. i don't think it will be after the earnings call. they need to mention the new macs at that time.

i looked at a wik page for the macbook pro and all the late in the year models came out around october 20th...

I don't mean to sound mean but is there any evidence that macbook pro's will be announced this month? I am sick of getting my hopes up!!!!!!!!
The usual pundits are all predicting an October release of some form. Worldwide, seems like retailers are running low on stock of the current models. Is this evidence? Not really, I'd call these more like indications.

Personally, I'm really sure it's happening. But I was also sure in March and June, so I'm the last person you should listen to.

So given we are seemingly unanimous with the bs 27th date, what prediction for the day of release do you all have? (Yes I'm that bored)
Also, the custom Macbook dates are at the 18th-20th with free delivery (this is normal). Once this starts deviating from 10 business days, we could safely pick up the release date out from that. Again, this assuming we are getting an October release...I'd get a PC if we don't. (no I won't, lol, who am I kidding?)

If she's not a tech geek then I doubt she'll notice the difference between SSD and Fusion Drive so 1 TB Fusion Drive is the way to go if you choose iMac. You're right in choosing mid-tier model.

Somewhat comparable Mac Mini will cost you only $222-322 less but will have worse CPU (no quad-core atm and nothing pointing towards Apple changing this), worse iGPU, bigger SSD in Fusion Drive (Mac Mini has 128 GB per 1 TB while iMac only has 24 GB but this should not matter as per the tests I've seen) and no display. Last point is the most important - you will not buy a display of comparable quality iMac has for $222-322. So I'd rule out Mac Mini entirely if Apple does not change it drastically this October.

I'd say even though she considers going desktop she'll still appreciate mobility of the laptop more. I'd understand if she needed much power from it but this is not the case. As for the rMBP it depends on how much space she needs. If 256 GB is enough I'd recommend rMBP over iMac. If Apple doubles the storage in this update you will be able either to pay less for 256 GB or get 512 GB for the same price. 512 GB should be more than enough.

If her complaint about MBA is screen size consider base rMBP 15". Yes it's more expensive but it should be enough from screen size perspective and has no other compromises.

If MBA is not be updated with a Retina screen this October don't choose it.

Overall I'd say rMBP 13" 256 GB, then iMac 21" with 1 TB Fusion Drive.

This thread and wait has been a rollercoaster ride of ups and downs and few laughs and spills. For me I am quite over the wait for these computers and it may well just be an anti - climax, if there is nothing new over the visuals and chassis photos from ages ago.
I say this now seeing as though no fun is allowed and all speculation has been repeated adnausium.

May I remind you all 'as early as October' was the quote that always sticks in my mind now so who knows when they will get released..... although no doubt if the slightest hint of some new rumour comes up I will be over it like a nasty rash gained from the young 'lady' I met last night.

Love that shade of gold. ;) He/she got the power button wrong though, but nice render nonetheless.

Berry Nyce!
Berry Berry Nyce!
Although I doubt Apple will go with Space Grey, that died with the iPhone 6S. It'll just get too complicated with Space Grey on the laptops and then Black/Jet Black on the iPhones. I don't think we'll see a Jet Black. However, I know many people say that it'll scratch and what not, but I think we may see a matte black MBP - they've done it before, why not again. Anyways, it looks damn sexy and far more sleeker than the current MBP. Designer got the power button wrong. And I really hope theres a non OLED bar strip version.

the power button location seems odd.
