Semi Off-topic: I took my money I planned on spending for the iPhone which I did not buy and a possible MacBook and invested it in British Pound Sterling.
If I'm lucky, my next hardware purchase will be "for free".
I decided to wait it out, because it's already too late.
In a few weeks we literally have to care about Christmas preparations and I certainly want to wait for real world data from buyers.
I do believe it will be disappointing. It will be marketed as the greatest design with OLED bar and Touch-ID, but my guess is we might be seeing lower performance compared to the competition.
If Apple puts s 5k Retina display in the. 15", the GPU will be maxed out before even driving an external display.
Low power Skylake is not that much better than older models, because most Apps aren't optimized ayways.
I just care about ports and gpu options.
I might even passband wait until next year, regardless of the potential release date.

My personal take on this huge delay is the have been sent back to the drawing board at least once by the rest of the industry (think SurfaceBook and others). I bet someone high up went "We can't release this ****, give me something better".

I invest in myself to generate money and try not to rely on 'luck'. Hope it works out for you.

On the macs, we all seem to want a different computer. Here is what I believe Apple should release [but I doubt they will] :

15" macbookpro - a mobile workstation [most likely to be ok for most users] - Skylake
13" macbookpro - a less powerful workstation but more mobile [and good for 'most' people] - Skylake most likely.

13" air - a portable laptop with reasonable power [retina screen, Kabylake]

12" macbook - super portable low power [Kabylake in March / April]

Having thought about it some more in regards to my ideal notebook usage requirements, I would like an air with updated aesthetics and retina screen [but is not likely] so am hedging my bets on the 13" pro for me. Both to compliment an desktop [unless an amazing 15' is released with 5k 27" monitor which I doubt].

too many options without any certain knowledge = me getting a little more desperate for launch.

Possible but improbable. Given the complex networks of component suppliers involved, it becomes almost impossible to make last minute redesigns. "Speed to the market" is a key performance metric these days. To minimize the time between announcement and availability to end user in significant numbers, production would already be in full swing. Assuming, of course, that October launch rumours are borne out.

They should have done it today. Announce the new MBP and iMac's or whatever. Do a 2 minute Steve Jobs tribute. Sales would have sky rocketed. I should apply for Apple, I doubt they could afford my brilliant ideas though :D
If only more prominent members of Apple would die so they could boost profits temporarily by milking the emotional reaction of their customers. Hell, death could be a growth industry…

Dose anyone feel like there won't be an actual keynote but just a press briefing for the reviewers to get the review unit? If that's the case wonder if the briefing has happened already.

I personally think they will have a small event where they invite just the press and then stream it. Nothing major, nothing minor.

No chance, 2 MacBook Pros coming, iMac and rumours of a MBA too. Not to mention the wait time alone from the last MBP update I can just hear Tim's wise cracks now Also fully expecting them to talk in serious depth about how amazing the OLED bar is and its endless possibilities

Yea I've been considering this, probably unlikely though. That said it's hard for me to shake the feeling that whatever gets released will immediately feel stale.

Glad to see there is more than just me hoping for October 18th. If we are correct then we should see invites go out no later than Tuesday October 11th (or the 10th if Apple operates on Columbus Day). There is also a website saying specifically that the event will be on the 24th. Seems brave for a website to say a specific date like that (much different than throwing out a date on a forum like this) however, they claim they have heard from credible sources that this is the date.

We've been hearing rumors of an October launch since before WWDC. Some of those rumors have come from sources that can definitely be considered credible. Not to mention, we had the leaked part and info about the OLED bar (where else would a rumor like that come from?). We also have an e-mail from Tim himself saying to stay tuned for Mac info. So at the end of the day, we know for sure that something is coming soon and most likely it will come this month. We just don't know when it will come and in what way (small event, big event, press release).

That being said, I do think its fairly safe to say at this point that by then end of the month we will have our new Macs. It's been a long frustrating year. We've made it through the March event, through April, through WWDC and through the September event. We've come to far to give up now.
