I'm just looking forward to the possible Craig presentation.

I'd be happy to see Schiller show off the new hardware too

any chance for a bezel reduction, but keeping the same footprint, thus allowing for a larger screen size? like, 14 and 16 inch macbook pros that have the same footprint, but with less bezel and more screen real estate?

This is what I want

Apple is also very keen on maintaining their identity. In the case of the iPhone, they could have definitely reduced some of the bezel, but if they did, it would look like the android phones.

[doublepost=1475727590][/doublepost]Bezels have not changed much for a long time:

12-inch-macbook-vs-13-inch-macbook-pro-retina.jpg

[doublepost=1475727750][/doublepost]It's also the reason why the Apple Watch isn't round. It'd be difficult to maintain an identity if it's like everything else.
Hey the bezels got a little smaller

The funny thing with this whole oled gimmick is the fact, that it will drain battery wheter it's a lot or not is irrevelevant, I'd rather have some real feedback from the functionkeys instead of havingto to use glass for them :(

The good thing is at this point it's pure speculation still holding out hope that this whole thing will be reserved for the top of the line 15inch high premium models.

I am pretty sure both models will have the OLED bar, apple wants it to be adopted by developers as soon as possible.

After thinking about it there are 2 options for my case:
13inch, 256 ssd, 16 gig, hopefully 4k
13inch, 512ssd, 8 gig, hopefully 4k

just need to figure out if I want more ram or storage but I guess I'll go for ram.

There won't be 4k on the 13"

and trust me you do not want 4k on the 13"
thats too high

I think a bezel reduction would be huge for the MacBook Pro. Seriously, I don't think I can go back to a full bezel on a laptop (mac or pc) after having my Dell XPS 15 inch for a few months now.

Even on a 1080p screen, the very little bezel is awesome.

yes please

All this talk about processors and battery, can't we talk about the important things like what colors it will come in?

yes, I hope it has a dark. space grey, or black, I really want that. Also I am a fan of the golds

Hi,

I've been reading this thread since page 1, but never posted here though.

I came across this article. Basically, Kaby Lake HD620 seems to perform better than Skylake Iris 540.
I know these chip are not for the macbook pro but, well, that's still another information for the macbook air.

http://consomac.fr/news-5571-quelles-performances-pour-kaby-lake.html

Shame on you!

This compares the HD620 to the HD520, but you said the HD 620 was faster than Iris 540.

Totally different. please read and think, before you post like that. I almost believed you.

It would have been great if true.

also the link you shared doesn't measure 3D graphics performance,

The french store FNAC is selling 15" MBPs for 1500€, when Apple sells them 2200... I'm seriously starting to consider it. I need something now...
Fyi, the new MBP will not be that much more powerful than the current model. 700 Euros is substantial. You can buy a second computer or iPad with that money.

I personally prefer the 13" too. I believe it's the most efficient trade-off between portability and productivity.

Tim said "Stay Tuned" which I don't think means march (next release-window) but rather their some-what usual october event...

If you think about it this way October makes perfect sense. If they release in October and ramp up production they can have them on the shelves for Christmas presents. It would be the perfect time to release them for Christmas!

i would buy this MBP, if the new one really is so much better you can sell this with no loss

Hey guys,
I am helping my brother get a laptop for his last year of high school then college.

Originally the budget was around $500 or less,
all those laptops were like 1280x768 screens, 5400rpm hard drives, intel atom/celeron,

so I tried to convince him to go higher.

now he really likes the dell xps 13, and razer blade stealth (Who can blame him)
As we know, both of these just got updated for kaby lake and cost $999.

Though he would be fine with a skylake one, there has to be some other retailers selling discounted sklylake versions, like at bestbuy, micro center, newgegg, etc, that have old stock. and should have the last gen for like $800-$900 right?!

I can't find any! anyone know a retailer that would have last generation laptops discounted?

Having owned 13" MacBooks since 2008(white MacBook and 2011 MacBook Pro) the 13" size is driving me crazy.
I'll be happy to finally have some breathing room with the 15". I get more frustrated with the 13" size than anything last few years.

Any UK members out there, worth noting CostCo have a rMBP 13" offer on right now on the home page which ends on 9th Oct. Fitting with the trend of clearing out current model stock.
are the UK's Costcos the only Costcos that sell Macs? they dont sell Macs in the US.

Trust me get a 15, even over a 17. I had a 13pb, 13pb, 15pb, 13mb, 13mbp, 17mbp, and now 15rmbp, and I am sticking to it.

This is why VISION PROBLEMS.

The 17 is seriously to small of text, there's nothing you can comfortably do to zoom.

The 13 doesn't have enough real estate for two or three windows and working comfortably.

The 15 is PERFECT size of text and real estate.

And especially with Retina if you need to zoom with smoothing it's really nice.

I don't really have too bad of vision problems but after being behind a computer screen since 12 to 44 years old the radiation is kicking in...

Although I would probably be stupid and get a 17 4K (if retina) but it would absolutely have to have the sickest dGPU cause it would be in non-2x zoom mode, as in 2x+

Laters...

Just FYI, it's refurbished. You would need to compare it with Apple's refurbished price.

Apple (France) is selling them refurbished for €1,909, which is crazy for a refurbished item and old tech.

Apple (UK) is selling them refurbished for €1,538.

Apple (US) is selling them refurbished for €1,523

John Lewis here in the UK have been out of stock of the middle (256GB) and high end (512GB) 13" for some days now. This is very unusual, they they usually have them in stock continuously. PC World and Amazon also have the same availability i.e only the base (128GB) is available.

Given the shortages in other European countries as well it's very clear that supplies are close to running dry and a refresh is imminent.

I guess the next sign will be either invites being sent out or the shipping times slipping for custom orders on the Apple Store?

I agree. I had a 13" for three years and apart from lack of graphics power, it was also the lack of screen real estate that made me tire of it in the end. 1200x800 just isn't enough. That's why I'll definitely be getting a 15" this time around (plus I want a quad-core processor and dGPU).

It would be really stupid of Apple not to for the following reasons:

-14" is the sweet spot for most users (having used the Lenovo)

- although the keyboard dictates the 12" diagonal length of the rMB, you've stared it and it'll look incoherent to others if you have 12,13.3,15.4...whereas 12,14,16 works way better
-you'll be satisfying the needs of all those individuals that wanted a 17"

They should keep the overall footprint the same, and shrink the bezels by .7 on the 13.3 and .6 on the 15.4.

Calling it.

13" - loses the Pro moniker, thinner, lighter, blah blah, less ports. Just another Macbook.
15" - still "Pro", various configurations, dGPU options as usual, more ports.

Easy upsell to people wanting to feel important by getting a "Pro" machines (or for actual people that need it).

then what do they call the 13" computer that has the thinner design? the one with less ports, 4.5W/15W cpu.

they can't just call that one MacBook then.

I actually wouldn't be surprised at that at all.

Not really. Preferences seem to peak at 13" and 15".

Speaking of incoherent... ahem.

And no, people don't care about round numbers for Mac screen dimensions, just as people don't care that the 4.7" and 5.5" iPhone screen sizes are not round numbers.

-you'll be satisfying the needs of all those individuals that wanted a 17"

But not the larger group of customers who want a smaller screen!
