if there is a press-only event in mid october shouldnt there as least be a rumor/leak about it?

Maybe, maybe not. Nearly one year ago, Apple introduced the 21.5-inch iMac with Retina 4K display and the revamped Magic Mouse, Keyboard and Trackpad via a simple press release. But those were minor news in comparison to the all new MacBook Pro we expect.

I just think of what will be in one month, the new MacBook Pro chases me in my dreams too.

i wonder why is it so hard to imagine a lineup consisting of:
12" macbook (5W cpu)
14" macbook (15W cpu w/ GT3)
16" macbook Pro (45W cpu w/ whatever gpu intel can come up with).

do we (read: the majority of people) really need any more options?

I won't put any estimate on prices, but it's obvious that to differentiate the 12 from the 14 and still offer the latter at human prices, the smaller MB should drop a few hundreds.

And if you ask why 15W and not 28W, i repeat myself once again: because with the added GT3 option (since skylake) on the 15W, these are very close to the 28W in terms of performance and any increase which is not significant does not justify the almost doubled power consumption.

Moscone has nothing scheduled for the entirety of next week...

Not a chance that they are hiring out Moscone for a Mac event. If there is going to be an event it will be a small venue like Town Hall or the Flint Center. There isn't enough general interest in Macs to justify a venue like Moscone or Bill Graham.

Besides there would've been invites by now if they were holding an event next week.

You make me laugh. I am on a unibody 2008 which is on life support. Everyday I wake up I hope it will work for one more day. following rumors, it was rumored that Apple might release an updated in late 2015, then it was March/16, then it was WWDC, then it became October. And So I still wait....

How did you even destroy your logic board? 4 yeas is average life for a computer.

I am also on a 2008, or 2012, I don't even know or care anymore, just grabbed it out of the closet after selling my 2016 Air. This computer is the bane of my existence. Every day I am tempted to throw it into the Pacific, is how much I dislike using it. Slow 5400 rpm drive, everything is just "clunky" on it. It is akin to the Office Space printer scene for me. It will be a glorious day to not use this thing anymore.

Yep. Me too. 2008 chugging along. Outside of the battery (which is an issue) that thing can/will run forever methinks. I've got a 1TB SSD and a 1TB 7200 in it... it's still pretty zippy... Can't handle the logic sessions I've been doing.... well, it can actually... but it doesn't like it. And due to the battery issues, the sucker ain't portable anymore.

Bated breath....waiting

rumor has it they want to finalize the software macOS sierra 10.12.1 for the new macbook pro on october 7th (today)

wonder if mac OS sierra 10.12.1 will be released next week then the macbook pro at a later date ? or they both happening at the same time.

Oh yeah. I remember he said something about the suppliers or something, maybe 60 pages back or something. Hopefully that person comes back with new info for us.

You guys looking for me ? But unfortunately I have no further clues about Apple's upcoming event this month.
Sometimes the silence means BIG thing, but it is no longer the Apple who surprised us with "One more thing..."
However, the only certain thing we all know is Apple rescheduled their fiscal Q4 2016 earnings call to Oct. 25, maybe the macbook pro will be unveiled after that date.

Well, I have to say that Apple has killed my patience successfully,
the most important thing to me is not how cool the MBP will be, but the invitation for their event.

Where did you hear that from?

Early 2008 for me. The removable battery no longer works so it stays anchored to the wall. It also wakes from sleep constantly even while closed and sounds like a jet engine when browsing the web, but she's running El Capitan and can even handle some light Adobe CS4 work. Just hangin' on, luckily I have a work provided Mid-2015 15" MBP that I treat largely as a personal computer now.

If the worst happens a.k.a. Apple doesn't release **** this month I am completely certain that this tread will surpass 2000 pages until March at the current rate.

7th of October, no news no rumors no leaks... Yeah this is not happening. I'm sad, and a tad bitter too. :-/

Well, time to suck it up, I'm starting a new job in a couple weeks, no way I'll get the current MBP, it's too outdated.
Will ask for a Razer Stealth Blade, and I'll apologize in advance to my colleagues for swearing while I re-learn to use Windows :)

Was nice to seat here with you, rant and joke about it all ! Good luck and I hope you'll get it not too late.

@ihatetoregister I kinda feel the same, but with so many rumors pointing to october I'm still waiting the end of the month in case there is a press release or some news next week.

I'm seriously considering the Razer, but Razer has a terrible reputation in the gaming world about the lifetime of their products.

Do you think it could be different for a laptop ?

You can always sell whatever Windows device you're getting later. And join back the Mac Nation. Just saying.

I feel sad, a lot of people are switching back to Windows machines...
For sure the Razer Stealth Blade is a good laptop !

Just a though on the store sales.

But given Apples history in the last few years, I'm willing to wager they will continue to sell the current line at a discounted price.

Ok. Reputable sources say October. Mark Gurman seemed to be 100% positive we will see them this month by the way he was speaking. Kuo also pointed to Q4 2016. Chassis leak. Many third party retail stores running out of stock (according to some here). Support for new HW, hence the device IDs that were found on a beta destined to be released this month. What else do you all want? A leaked keynote?! Give it a rest. Now if all of you are so desperate for new rumors I would be happy to start making up some. Hell, might even create a second account, claim to be an insider with access to prototypes, and post "insider info" here.

We also had this last week: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/09/28/late-october-macbook-pro/

MacRumors has learned that Apple is indeed moving rapidly toward a launch of the new MacBook Pro models, with the company's current development work on macOS 10.12.1 focused largely on preparing the operating system to support the updated hardware's new features, which have been rumored by several sources to include Touch ID support and an OLED "touch bar" replacing the current row of function keys across the top of keyboard. Apple is also said to be shifting to "Polaris" graphics chips from AMD on the higher-end 15-inch models.
This is it, we are almost crossing the finish line, chill. You can also take some of these while you desperately wait, trust me time will fly by. Just don't abuse them.

I'm not sure. One good thing about where I live (Norway) is that you get 5 years of warranty (sort of) by default on everything. So one usually doesn't have to care too much about that.
And in that case, it's my company who's buying so I don't care too much either.

See above, I need to start a new job so I need a new machine. Maybe I could use my personal MBP for a while but I doubt it ( bank related job ), I'll ask them though.

Hmmm, at the same time nothing here is really certain, and we had the same hopes / rumors / buildups earlier in the thread. Maybe I'm wrong, but usually rumors / leaks are more... sure ? Ref. IPad pro, iPhone specs etc.

No we didn't. In past occasions were the hype got out of control no single source had indicated the release of new MBPs. Before the march event there was nothing. Before WWDC, Kuo said Q4 (Verified by Mark G.). Then of course people started to believe (claim actually) he was referring to fiscal Q4, just because they wanted to justify something coming out soon. Before the September event reputable sources said no new macs, and again people still believed (expected) they were going to release them just because you know...magic and the power of belief. The "hopes / rumors / buildups earlier in the thread" you stated were just that, hopes and claims from those who "wanted to believe" nothing more.
