I doubt Apple is scheduling their announcement to avoid violating the informal quarterly quiet period for investors. For one, the quiet period protects investors from other investors learning the quarterly earnings results early and selling/buying on insider information. A new product announcement is 1) only going to affect later quarters and 2) available to all investors at the same time.

Also, Apple had its October event FOUR DAYS BEFORE their Q4 earnings call in 2014.

But that was a smart thought. Keep those coming (and less posts with the word "neglect" please).

Right but it seems unlikely that they move the call to be closer to any event they might have pencilled in.

Still leaves a very short window. 10th today, assuming we can rule out 24th the day before the call, that leaves next week. If there is going to be any kind of event you would expect to see the invites in the next couple of days.

Fixed that for you

So did MS steal Apple's thunder with their October 26th event? Honestly, I don't see how apple can pull this off before their earnings report and MS's event. Should we resign ourselves to a November event?

I think we could be looking at sometime during the week commencing 25th after the earnings call or perhaps the following Monday. Actual availability would probably be November though in that case.

Where the MacBook hos at? ;)

hahaha 4 real!

Im thinking 18th for the event, 10/11 for the invite.

John Gruber - to coin a phrase - has 'soft-confirmed' the 27th as the MacBook event... I always get the impression that he knows for sure but gives a strong indication...

That’s one day before Apple’s event to announce new MacBooks on Thursday 27 October — if Apple moved its earnings from the 27th to the 25th to make room for an event.

10/11 is tomorrow !

what time do invites go out again? 10am Pacific?

If there's no invites by Wednesday, I am getting a MacBook Air 2015/11 on Wednesday Night.

I want my Air and I want my Pods

You can return when the invites go out.

Lisa Gade from MobileTechReview is with us guys.
She starts talking about macs at 6:44. 'Go get therapy'
Good video, I agree with everything she says.

So I gave in (temporarily) today guys... I just need a laptop for school so badly and honestly the 2015 model is just fine for my needs but at this point I might as well get the new one right?

I bought the rMB just because I always wanted to try it... Hopefully the invites go out within my 14 day period so I can return it comfortably.

I know I'm a bad person for doing this :-(

you are not a bad person,

this is what apple gets for taking this long

I believe Nintendo paid Apple to promote their mobile strategy. Not the other way round.
There is no real incentive for Apple to promote any game on OSX.
Everyone would painfully realize that OSX cannot be a gaming platform. Even with metal.
The keyword here is "profit margins", not performance.
[doublepost=1476016780][/doublepost]
Exactly right. The numbers of Macs sold compared to iPhones are minimal.

But apple is not promoting nintendo games for OS X?
what are you talking about?

I understand all that. But you have to stop dreaming. It will never happen.
They might be horrible third party products that connect GPU over PCIe, but do you really want a metal box stuffed with fans and a 300 watts power supply on your desk?
That's all just hoping for better performing Apple products.
They will never come
Yes, I do want a metal box stuffed with fans on my desk. Also, how is that different than having a 3 foot gaming desktop on my desk? Current, eGPU enclosures work really well, and more in the future will work well.

They could reuse their trash can design for the eGPU, sans the CPU of course. Not a bad design for cooling hot GPUs in fact. Just something to keep in mind.

yea. MSI did it. with dual GTX 980s. checkout MSI vortex

In my humble opinion, only the 12" rMB really needs Kaby Lake. All macs will have TB3 soon, and one of the key features of KL improving SL is the native support of TB3 without using an externar alpine ridge controller. As this controller takes some space, the rMB needs KL in order to support it.
However, it seems that new macbook pro will have more room in its chassis, so skylake + alpine ridge is amost a safe bet.
though, I thought the ULV Kaby lake CPUs, do NOT have TB3 built in. and still need an external enclosure

Why would there be potential support for an external GPU in macOS sierra? Remember the rumors of Apple adding a GPU to the (hopefully) pending 5K cinema display?

Mac OS already supports eGPUs

When is it coming out for MacOS?

Along side the 2016 MBP of course. It's a launch title ;)

I hope soon though. I will be boot camping my 2016 MBP of course though.

It's OFFICIAL everybody. October 26th is the day: http://bit.ly/2dYsxH6

Well technically the 2016 MBP is a windows 10 device....

Plot twist, the 2016 MacBook Pro and Air is being revealed at the microsoft event to show off how windows 10 is optimized with the OLED bar.

Considering Razer is able to put a desktop GTX 1060 into something as thin as the Razer Blade, or Dell putting a GTX 960M into the XPS 15, Apple really has no excuse. Especially since the 15" rMBP is thicker and has the largest foot print by far of the three. It seems like they are more interested in keeping the 85W power supply than anything else.

Well, I am not bashing on the razer blade. I love the razer blade.

but, the 1060m inside, of it makes it extremely hot. if anyone thought the MacBook pros were hot, they are nothing compared to razer blade. its like seriously burning hot. also, the razer blade's fans are LOUD, very LOUD.

Like what? On the latest episode of Connected they explained that they are actually prohibited by law to make announcements close to investor meetings.
Historically, Apple hasn't made any announcements a week beforehand.

If that is true, then it's either the 18th or 27th. Or I suppose the 26th, if they wanted to try to upstage Microsoft.

that would be so funny it it was on the 26th hahaha.

But yea looks like we are looking at the 18th. or the 27th.
wait what about the 20th?

Hey you guys!
###Some exciting news from Chinese forum because I'm a Chinese!###
1. Rumors said that Apple is going to send the invitation on Oct 13 and hold the event on Oct 20!
2. There will be a new 13 inch MacBook, wich is not called Air anymore.
And it will come with 4 colors as the 12 inch MacBook.
3. But the pro may only come with the silver color.
4. 15'' pro will be realeased with the AMD polaris.
5. iMac will update its processors.
6. MacBook Pro will come with skylake chip.
7. The touch pad of MacBook Pro will probably support Apple Pencil and the Dynamic Function Row will come with both 13'' and 15''.
Bad news here:
no news about Mac Mini, Mac Pro
# Note that these are all rumors, so I won't be responsible for my words. But the source is quite reliable since it comes from the workers doing the manufacturing work in China!
# So just be ready for the celebration with new Macs!
[doublepost=1476081655][/doublepost]And I registered an account on Mac Rumors just to bring this Great News to all of you who is waiting for macbooks desperately like me!
Hope you guys have a good October without worrying about the new Macs.
Just save money and stay tuned!:p

Lol, I don't believe you at all or your source.

but it all seems reasonable

Oh man I do not want a 13/14 inch regular Macbook...I always loved the Air's ports. I'll probably get the new 13" Pro then.

maybe the larger rMB will have more ports

That would make me so happy, and so angry at the same time

hahaha you are killing me

Sorry for the long post guys

Not that it's an indication of new MBP's, but the Apple refurbished site last week had 15% discounts on the 2016 MacBooks and all 13" MBA's are no longer available.

Maybe clearing all inventory out for an all-new lineup, perhaps?

I been lurking on here since last year and if I recall the common belief is that apple will use the i7-6970hq, 6870hq, and 6770hq cpu's. The only thing launched with them is Intels unit and I'm finding little info on future cpu's with the gt4e or iris pro GPU.

Would it be that surprising if apple used the older i7-6920hq, 6820hq, or 6700hq and add dgpu in the pro models? That would keep the battery level close as it is now and give more power then the current ones.

That'd be surprising as there'd of been no reason for the extended delay.

Unless Intel just can't get the CPU issues fixed and Apple was waiting on it as well.

2 things I can think of:
1). Apple gets first release of there new CPU with the exception of the Intel Desktop
2). Technical issues haven't been able to be resolved.

Looking at Alienware laptops for info and the last one was announced with the older CPUs. For a gaming laptop you would think it would have the best possible CPU.

Here are its spec

Specifications:

  • Intel Core i5 processor up to Core i7 6820HK Dynamically Overclocked up to 4.1 GHz
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 with 6GB GDDR5,
optional AMD Radeon RX 470 with 8GB GDDR5 or NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 with 8GB GDDR5
  • Networking includes e2400 Gigabit Ethernet, wireless and Bluetooth
  • 8GB DDR4 2133 MHz memory up to 32 GB
  • Multiple storage capacities across SATA and PCIe, including a 3 TB option: 1TB PCIe (boot drive), 1 TB PCIe (storage) and 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s (storage)
I really don't know much, just typing out loud.

I can't believe it's October 10th. Just yesterday I was sitting on the edge of my seat watching Loop You In. Yet I was still dropping dank memes back then using Word:

The last time I felt this much anticipation was for Halo 2 or for Burning Crusade. This definitely tops those, though. It's just different because we know so little. When you're waiting for a new game, you know so much. The fact that we may get invites next week is pretty insane.
