Same. Even my girlfriend is complaining about it. No joke.

Count me in the group too... I think we have a few 'sub-groups' on this forum...

Yup. I'm in the last category in literally every sense.

My level? Why,

It's October 11th, at this point an October launch seems very unrealistic. Maybe they will just be released one day without some big keynote.

Dydegu's Guide to Deciphering Bad Web Articles

1. Do a Google news search for "MacBook Pro 2016" or something similar. You get something like this:

vH3FK0N.jpg

This is all trash. The biggest red flag is that they've all been updated incredibly recently. Man, University Herald posted an article on this exact topic an hour ago? They must have some spicy new rumors. Wrong. They just rehash their same articles and post them so they appear new. Sometimes Google helps out and will tell you if a site is highly cited, but you can't always trust that.

2. Alright, so go ahead and click one of these. Almost all of them have another red flag: horrible click bait articles and ads on their sidebars and below the "article." I have AdBlock on Chrome, but I still get them. They're mostly about celebrities, weight loss, magic medicines, politics, etc. That's a good way to know you're on a bad site. This isn't 100%... because I've still seen these on semi-reputable sites, but it's a good indicator.

3. That's it. Follow those steps, and you'll cut out 90% of the crap out there. Let me know if anyone else has any tips.

At this point, basically any article about the MBP is probably useless. Any reliable rumor there is can be found right on this website (in case you forgot, there is more to MacRumors--and life--than this forum)!

I had a MacBook Air, sold it for a Surface Pro 3, and am now wanting to get back over to Mac and am waiting to get the 15" MacBook Pro.

I've noticed many comments in this thread about this being the last refresh. Is Apple going to stop producing laptops after this run? I haven't done a great job of keeping up on things in the MacBook area, but is it a general consensus that this next MacBook Pro will be the last? Thank you.

Nobody knows for sure. I personally think this won't be the last refresh. But I do think Apple won't refresh it as often as before. I think this refreshtime will be the new standard. But this is just my opinion.

Keep in mind that I'm a pretty relieable source, with a great track record of having opinions!!

Nah, I think it highly unlikely. The people who say that are just being salty. If you haven't been checking this forum regularly-- what are you even DOING with your life??--emotions have been running pretty high.

It wouldn't make any sense for Apple to quit with Macs. They yield solid returns, the customer base is pretty loyal (see past 1120 pages), and they've solidly occupied a niche in the computing market that makes it a safe investment. Plus, with a bank account large enough to buy countries, what reason would they have to justify quitting a multi-billion dollar business?

I think you got "as early as October" mixed up with "early October" ;)

Probably... Difficult to keep track of all the things that didn't happen ;-)

Wait, what ?! I thought it was a joke over the iPad Pro being the new MBP.
Hahaha if it's the case that makes me even happier I left the product line. This thread is entertaining :) -but really, I hope you guys will have it at the end of the month.

This has been a longer than usual refresh cycle, but it's in large part due to Intel's being slow in its releases. The MBP 15" is using Haswell because Apple got fed up waiting for Broadwell. Then Apple didn't update to Broadwell because the upgrade was marginal and Skylake was just around the corner. Except it wasn't - there are still no laptops out there using the Skylake chips that would go in the MBP 15".

Over the longer term, there is little reason to expect that Apple won't return to its usual ways of refreshing the processor in this current design as Intel makes the chips available. But Intel's leaked roadmap shows it could be some years until a successor to Skylake suitable for the MBP 15" will come out.

So yes, things are slowing down, but this is mainly an issue of how much more difficult it is for Intel to produce better chips than they currently do. There's no reason to think that Apple will not continue refreshing the product, and no reason to think that redesigns won't be possible as the underlying hardware continues to evolve. Macintosh is, after all, a multi-billion dollar business for Apple. Despite what some people are posting here, they're not going to suddenly lose interest.

Why people think invites will go out today, is it not usally around 10 days before the event that Apple send invites out? So next week makes more sense if the 27th even date is correct.

Dell XPS 15 (9550) uses a 45W Skylake chip. Is this not the same chip that would go in the MBP 15?

im seriously goinging to consider buying kabylake xps15 (which is expected to comeout in jan 17) if apple shuts their moith this month

Yeah, for those that have the luxury of waiting (I do), there should be some good alternatives in the next few months if Apple drops the ball this month.

still waiting it out... i looked at some PCs over the weekend and had a hard time picking one out.. i love my mac too much. please don't disappoint us apple!

Remember - New York buyers. Your MacBook Pro purchase is tax-exempt if you:
  • design and develop computer software for sale,
  • provide the service, for sale, of designing and developing Internet Web sites, or
  • provide a combination of the two uses described above.

Alright for some. I look forward to my 20% tax and rocketing prices due to the weakness of the pound :(

I'm actually considering the MacBook. I've already got an iMac for any heavy lifting and i love the portability of the 12 inch MacBook . Shame the keyboard is trash ..

Is it bad that when I get up in the morning, one of the first things that I do is check this site and this thread for updates and any links for info?

Omg. I have a problem.

One of the first things?

It is literally the first thing I do. I actually just woke up five minutes ago. I immediately reached for my iPhone that sits on my desk next to my bed and then I opened Safari and immediately went to this thread. Not even kidding. This has become my life now -_-

Except maybe not. The leaked Intel roadmap shows that Kaby Lake will not include a processor that matches the Skylake i7-6970HQ. It's likely that the Skylake-based MBP will outperform the Kaby Lake-based Dell XPS.

Aren't the coffee lake gt4e chips due in Q1 2018?

Isn't it therefore likely that we'll see a skylake MPB 15 this month, then perhaps another small spec bump this time next year, then a coffee lake MPB 15 at the end of Q1 2017?
