Oh absolutely, I dont doubt for a minute that its very possible. I just wonder at what point to they start eating some of the difference, at what point do they start eating into those huge margins?

Granted there has been some effect of currency fluctuation but we've reached a point in the UK where the mid tier iPhone (4.7 inch) is £700, the mid range iPad (9.7 pro 128 gb) is £639 and we are looking at nearly 2k for base model 15 inch laptop. No surprises that they are seeing declining hardware sales.
If you convert the US price at today's rate the iPhone you quoted would be over £750.

Who is excited for the Microsoft event on the 26th?! I can't wait to see the all-in-one pc. Microsoft somehow has a great hardware engineering team, I bet it will be a great AIO desktop. This will give the iMac some slick competition. (It's been years since the iMac actually had decent competition.)

Yeah, I want to see what they have in their bag

Yeah they seem to have swallowed some of the costs, I think the iPad only increased by £50 which could've been worse. I think the bigger issue is them bumping the prices based on iterative updates. The 9.7 inch iPad pro is a good example of this it got the usual upgrades that everybody was really expecting for an iPad Air 3. Better screen, better camera, better speakers stick the word Pro on the name and up goes the price. That just makes matters worse.

Imagine the what the world (i.e. this forum) would become, if the hardware & design (and GPU) is great, and its hackintosh-able... buying MS hardware to run Apple software. I think my head would explode...

It's definately coming.

Normally betas have a 2 week period. Last beta (3) came out on Oct 3rd.
This will be probably the last one before release :)

I mean I imagine the design and hardware will be great. maybe not perfect, and some may not like it. And I think there is a good chance it could be hackintoshed. but support for the pen and other features would not be there.

So next week the official 10.12.1 launches and invites go out somewhere around the 17-20th. ?

Count me in the group too... I think we have a few 'sub-groups' on this forum...

  • Level 0: Accidentally clicked on forum link. [Sane individuals]
  • Level 5: Browse once a week. [Sane individuals]
  • Level 10: Browse daily, post rarely. [Early onset mac-dementia]
  • Level 50: Browse multiple times daily, post daily. [Mid-stage hysteria]
  • Level 100: Browse hourly, post multiple times daily. [Late-stage lunacy]
  • Level 1000: Browse and post hourly. First thing we do in the morning. Last thing we do at night. Dream of the refresh. Friends and family starting to distance themselves from us. [MBP psychopathology - final stages]

After I just bought a new car, I'm not even really waiting for now; I'm practically on this thread whenever possible(Like, level 100 status browsing) purely due to entertainment.

Seriously, this thread has had me laughing embarrassing loud at work or at school. This thread is a masterpiece.

Alright guys I figured it out.

... There is another group of tech folk desperately waiting news of a much rumoured product ...

... One of the most beloved leaders of that company appeared on stage at the last Apple keynote ....

... it is clear Apple has lost interest in the Mac. Even if we get an update (hahahaha) they are so infrequent, and the yearly macOS updates so minor, "The Mac" is at clearly the bottom of the interest pile for Apple. The only updates we get are to dumb down the product ...

... the reason Apple introduced this other leader was to gauge the reaction, and it was overwhelmingly positive ...

... thus Apple is going to stop making the Mac completely ....

... Are you getting the picture ? .... Its not three separate devices ..... It is three revolutionary devices in one ..... ITS A COMPUTER .... ITS A CONSOLE .... ITS PORTABLE ....

... Thats right.

.... The much anticipated much rumoured much discussed much delayed unveiling of the Nintendo NX .... The much anticipated much rumoured much discussed much delayed unveiling of the Apple Macbook ...

INTRODUCING THE NINTENDO MACBOOK NX.

Apple will continue to make the darwin underpinning of the macOS, but thats it. Nintendo will be responsible for the hardware and interface. The much maligned Mac App Store will go away, to be replaced by loveable Nintendo Cartridges.

Apple continues to dumb down macOS. Introducing macOS 10.13 Puddle Pond

New, hopefully final beta: https://www.macrumors.com/2016/10/11/apple-seeds-macos-sierra-10-12-1-beta-4 otherwise I don't see this thing happening this month folks.

I doubt this has anything to do with the MBPs. There is already evidence of Touch Bar/Touch ID support in Sierra.

If we're getting them this month like the reliable rumors suggest,* they are already being made and will have 10.12.0 on them, although possibly a newer, special build of it--they've done that before with new Macs.

*I suppose there's always a chance they could be announced but released in November, but Apple generally doesn't do that with Macs. Also, it's a horrible thought so let's not think it.

Nah, all of the credible rumours say the March event is going to focus on iPad. How would that go then?

"... So that's iPad Pro the tablet that can replace your laptop. Next Laptops ..."
It would be like "here are our new iPads Mini, iPad Pro" etc, and iPhone SE (4 inch). Then in a secret press release MacBooks get updated (but can't really see this tho because of the OLED bar...) so following that logic that's why I have been sticking by October...

oh and Level 50-100... yeash

I don't think there would be invites or an event for a Mac release. If there was an iOS device being released around the same time they might shoehorn it in. But since that isn't the case, expect a press release.

The leaked Coffee Lake roadmap, doesnt even list GT4e chips... and there are opinions that Intel is dropping the highest iGPU lines after the skylake.

Pair that with Nvidia advertising for Apple related jobs... and methinks the next MacbookPro (after Skylake hopefully released in 16 days!!) will have a GT3e iGPU and an Nvidia dGPU...

**** me I just re-read the roadmap. There are only 45w GT2 chips coming out from Coffee lake onwards.

So this MBP 15 might be the last of it's kind?

If they don't do at least a small event for a major redesign, I am definitely worried for the future of the Mac.

It seems they'll be working with Nvidia in the future to bring a dGPU to every Mac.

Anyone else waiting for the iPhone 7 Plus also? I just want to give Apple money and they make it so hard.
Yay, just got my 7 Plus. For reference, the white front of the silver case looks much more stylish with the leather cases. I originally picked up a black 7 Plus but changed my mind immediately when I noticed how much better the contrast looks. The new leather cases are 100x better than the old ones too.

Back to waiting on just the MBP. Come on Apple.

i thought the macrumors article a few weeks ago (https://www.macrumors.com/2016/09/28/late-october-macbook-pro/ ) basically implied that they'd have 10.12.1 on them?

with the company's current development work on macOS 10.12.1 focused largely on preparing the operating system to support the updated hardware's new features,

even if Tim Cook doesn't care about the Mac. The engineers building this MacBook pro and the software developers and a whole lot of other people definitely do care about this MacBook and other macs very dearly. and that's enough to get them a small event
[doublepost=1476211347][/doublepost]I just emailed Mark Gurman. Asking when the event will be.

Anyone think he will respond to me?
