Apparently so.

Well the update from the Apple product team is likely to be a new version of Final Cut Pro X but the timing of the release is interesting. Would they release something like that without having new hardware out?

Its also worth considering the rumoured OLED touch bar on the new Macbook, if they are going to be contextual you could imagine there being features in the new version of Final Cut related to it.

You are correct, one would think if they are going to utilize the newest version to its extent, then they would need to use the new touch bar "gestures" or whatever they will be called

Let's say the rumor that macOS 10.12.1 is required for the new MBP is true... They have been releasing betas for macOS 10.12.1 about every week; latest on Oct 11th. Third beta about 8 days previously. If they release a fifth beta by Oct 20, would that suggest a delayed announcement(November) or October announcement and delayed launch?

Common sense dictates that the new MacBook Pro is coming this October/November and not in March. Apple has been waiting for the AMD Polaris GPU, so they couldn't launch it during the WWDC. Now they cand. March 2017 doesn't make any sense because there are no new CPUs or GPU by then that they can be waiting for.[/
Hi Waiting for Skylake crew, just looking at the schedule for the FCPX Creative Summit starting on October 27th (!) in Cupertino.

DeAnza Theater | Apple Campus: Update from Apple Product Team

Yet another indication we have macs coming this month. Patience everybody. Almost there now

B&H only has 30 of the 15"/2.2/256 and 5 of the 15"/2.5/512/AMD in stock. All the Other configs are 2-4 weeks.

MacBook Pro coming out soon?

They could release it on the current stable. But they might say "If you want the next masOS, you can preorder and they'll ship 4 weeks from now" or they'll sell it on the current stable and push an upgrade a couple weeks after the event.

Is a 2015 MBA for $450 a good deal? i5 8gb 128gb SSD? 13"
If you can get it down to $400 or even 385, yep. Though, it does depend on what you're doing. Photo or film? No. Schoolwork, assuming you're in your youth, it's fine. It'll be fine to watch Netflix or whatever. And if you're an on the go writer, yes.

More likely a 465.

470 is in a big alienware 15" notebook

460 was tweeted by AMD marketing in a HP Omen thin 15" with a i7-6700hq.

You're talking about the desktop chips (desktop 470&480 use polaris 10), I was talking about the mobile chips (480 uses full polaris 11, same as desktop 460). 480m has 35w TDP. Alienware uses desktop 470.

I'd forget it. If you want to pay a high price, may as well put another 400 on it and get a refurb unit from Apple. At least that way you can get Apple Care support. You won't buying through a private seller.

That's an amazing price for the current model, if the battery is good and it has no optical issues. Refurbs don't even come remotely close.
My girlfriend bought a 2011(!) 13/256/8 for 500€ (looks like new, 100 cycles), that was by far the best price I found.

Quite true, but if there's a serious issue down the line, he or she will spend quite a bit of money on it out of pocket. There's a reason why refurb units, be it from Apple or Windows makers don't come cheap. Because it goes through an incredible process of changing out and cleaning up.

Eh, chances are, if you can boot up the computer and play some 4K YouTube videos for a few minutes, nothing is wrong with the laptop.

Not really. If it were playing h.264 to you it would be more labor intensive for the processor than the current VP9 codec would be. It may look the same CPU utilization wise but the VP9 is more efficient than h.264 and that was more efficient than flash. A real assurance test would something like Intel Burn Test. When I built my last Intel based workstation, I ran it for 50 passes continuously over a 48 hour period. What that does is it pushes the CPU to 99-100% during that time, never letting it drop, and also utilizes all your RAM. With the PC side there's a lot of great monitoring, diagnostics and testing tools. I know there's a few methods with Intel based Macs but I can't remember off the top of my head. I know I used to use one through terminal.

There's a lot of benefit from doing a burn in test for a new setup like mine. It seats the thermal paste and you can see any issue that might popup compared to an established build. I did that, 24 hours of Prime95, tested 32 GB of RAM and after I upgraded, 64 GB of RAM, and even did a looped test for GPU and CPU benching. It's his choice, but I feel it's a little too much for a basic MBA without warranty, assuming the original owner didn't get Apple Care which does transfer on top of the original 1 year warranty, but I assume it's been a year and the original purchaser did not opt in for Apple Care. I checked a while back to pick up a Mini to be able to use one piece of software on OSX that is too troublesome to virtualize on a networked service and noted you can get a refurb from Apple at tier 1 grade, 1 year of warranty like the new stuff plus the ability to purchase Apple Care.

Edit: I should advise anyone who has a Windows based workstation who wants to test to make sure there's adequate ventilation, fans blowing with the case door open as well as A/C running. Any room, even a very large one, will get warm very fast. After your testing period, let the computer run at idle for 10-20 hours and then shut down.

They dropped it down to $340. good deal now?
Yes, jump on it like Trump would. Do the deal in a public place or at an Apple store.

Call me crazy, but I think that's a good deal! I mean, it of course depends on your use, how long you want to keep it, blah, blah, blah. You know your stuff, so I'm assuming that you're well aware of how well a base Air will fit into your lifestyle. But just from a price/technology standpoint it seems solid. Whatever we say about Apple, they do make a good product. For only $340 you are getting a functional, high-quality computing device. Maybe there's a Chromebook somewhere out there that might run a LITTLE faster or whatever, but for the OS, portability, and build quality I'd say that's a steal!

I found this tweet response by John Gruber QUIIITTTEEE interesting indeed. He linked to this post on his site where he mentioned the possible Mac event on Oct 27th.

http://daringfireball.net/linked/2016/10/07/microsoft-event

This is one of the very few real rumors posted lately. :D

Super weird answer; like a CIA's "We can't confirm nor deny that I have a new mac on my hands". And that usually means they confirm it. ;)

That "if" looks super suspicious, too. Like he added it just to comply with his agreement with Apple.

It's 2016 (almost 2017); Apple can push the update as soon as you turn your mac on.

The if was also interesting to me too. almost as if he published the article without that part, but immediately realized he couldnt say anything about it yet, so he edited in the hyphen and the if statement.

his tweet is also peculiar. the guy basically says "lol what if gruber has a secret mac?", and gruber seemingly implies (in my opinion) "dude thats not the case, theres an event on the 27th" .
