The if was also interesting to me too. almost as if he published the article without that part, but immediately realized he couldnt say anything about it yet, so he edited in the hyphen and the if statement.

his tweet is also peculiar. the guy basically says "lol what if gruber has a secret mac?", and gruber seemingly implies (in my opinion) "dude thats not the case, theres an event on the 27th" .

That's the way Gruber used to leak information when he was in that game. He would do it in a cute way that made it look like nothing more than a prediction.

i see. i've never followed the launch of any product as much as this one, so i never saw/heard of these guys and the way they leak stuff until now. i sure as heck hope you're right, that he's implicitly hinting at the event being on the 27th

curious: you said "when he was in that game"...what does he do now?

i live in India and since the October of 2015 have been waiting for 2 things
release of updated 15inch rMBP and the release of updated Hyundai Tucson.
Both keep Skipping Deadlines since march 2016 and now are rumored for launch in October 2016.
At this point I'm just betting with myself over which will come first.

He does what he always did - writes about Apple and technology (with a sprinkling of baseball and politics) just he rarely leaks anything anymore. His reward is probably getting the likes of Phil, Craig and Eddie to appear on his podcast very occasionally.

AMD improves perf/watt ~50% with new polaris revision.
I'm kind of lost here. Those graphics card updates are coming much too quickly. Are we going to see a 485m in the MBP then?

OK, now this is extremely interesting in regards to the timing of a launch date. If Apple can get their hands on this revision in time for at launch in late October/early November, there is no doubt at all, that they have been waiting for it. Remember that they need this in the iMac too, not only in the top end MacBook Pro 15.

In a way, this is very good news because it explains why a launch next week would be too soon. 27th October looks great now, but maybe it will be a soft launch with only pre-orders right away.

Very exciting news, thanks for sharing!

This must be one of the most anticipated computers in computer history. At least since I started following Apple in the late 90's or so, I never read or felt so much hype. Especially that back in those days Apple hardly leaked anything and it was a total surprise what you will see. It was usually a totally new design every 1.5-2 years.

The funny part though, is that with these anticipated MBP nothing is going to be new or revolutionary. Most people are expecting hardware that has been on the market for at least a year now and the software is already out there. I guess most just don't want to buy last year's computer.

Key info from the wccftech.com article:

  • The updated revision of Polaris 11 will not only bring down the power from 75W to less than 50W but it will also improve clock speeds and bring up the compute throughput to 2.5 TFLOPS from 2.15.
  • The new revisions will be available immediately to the embedded market under the E9550 and E9260 product names for Polaris 10 and 11 respectively.
  • The updated revisions are believed to be coming to the mobile market in the form of mobility Radeon RX 400 series graphics cards in the coming months.

Nothing ? Oh well see you next Thursday for more adventures & anxious waiting ... *waves*

OK, more info on the possible updated AMD GPU from http://videocardz.com/63736/amd-launches-new-embedded-radeon-gpus

The interesting part is the E9260 that comes in PCI-E and MXM A formats, both using full chip with 14 CUs and 4GB 128-bit memory. MXM is for the embedded market, while the PCI-E is for the high end MacBook Pro 15.

Here is the goodies. 4 GB Vram, max 50 watt. I would love this in the new MacBook Pro, but I don't know what the watt ceiling is in the current MacBook Pro's. They could downclock it though and shave some watt off.

…in short: if there really will be new rMBPs this month, they won't be coming with these GPUs.

The info is on that is a bit ambivalent as far as I can tell. The new AMD chips are apparently done and shipping, so I wouldn't rule out that Apple has been able to get a head start on those with the PCI-E interface.

Actually, I would bet on it that they have. John Ive is obsessed with thin and light and desperately needs those. He would go through hell to get those.

Come to think of it, I wouldn't be surprised if Apple pushed AMD to do this more efficient revision ASAP. The first revision was a not-good-enough-you-will-just-have-to-do-better. AMD was schooled behind closed doors and went back to work.

Note the timing of this revision.

It wasn't already by page 1000?

Anyway, I'm glad to see that all the "chattering" now is pointing to 27th october, plus that hint of Apple moving the date of earnings.
I want to believe, guys.
It's the 27th.

I hope so too, especially given your signature :)

Wondering how big the community of us is who are desperately waiting for the revised MBPs... Maybe we are just a minority and the "normal" customers just don't care (regardless if they are not informed).

Would be interesting to have statistics
xxx people originally posted in this thread "waiting" for the Skylake MBP
yyy still waiting
zzz gave up and bought the current MBP
www gave up and bought a Windows Laptop

We might be surprised...

I'm in category ZZZ. Waited over a year. But my iMac just couldn't keep up. This 15" is a beast! The iMac makes a nice 27" Thunderbolt display ;) Already recorded two songs at remote locations. Glad i made the switch. But still interesting to watch this thread.
