For sure, and its the last thing I want to do. But what is the alternative for those of us on hardware that is on its final leg.

I have been using a 2011 MBA (with a smashed screen) connected to an external monitor, and is getting slower by the day.
By from someone other than Apple. Buy a cheep chrome book just don't support their ****** practices. I'm in a similar situation my 2009 MacBook Pro was acting up had a faulty battery and the hard drive finally crashed after replacing the battery and updating to El Capitan.

I'm one of the shallow people :) - I want thin, and I want gold. 15", fastest processor, max memory, 512G drive.

I've got plenty of other devices I use - 12.9 and mini ipads for email and web browsing and book reading and writing. An old iMac for Handbrake. A NAS and appleTV4 for plex and image storage.

This one will be for simple pleasures - I probably won't even take it to work all that often, but it'll run Scrivener for me. Might get Lightroom. Maybe do some simple coding on it after I retire from my day job if I ever do.
I hear ya. I want thin and matte black. I use an old Mac Mini as a plex server.

hello.

any video editors here?

wondering how the MBP 2.2GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 2015 does 4k video editing? how anyone here done this?
lets say 5d mark IV 4k stuff..two layers ...

basically trying to avoid getting an iMac...i want to be more mobile..if I can manage to get work done. I could always convert to prores if need it.

thanks a lot.

Depending what you're doing with your Mac.
Personally, if I wasn't tied to the Apple ecosystem and already made investments ( in software but more importantly, in time ) for my work, I would have left this dumb product line (Overpriced, outdated and underpowered, what else could one ask for ?) a long time ago.

14 pages since Thursday! Holy Moly! I have no time to read all that, I just got my Air 2015/11 4/256, it's running smooth. Hope you guys get your October Macs, or else it's gonna be a cold winter and a quick hop skip and a jump to black Friday deals, I know that's where you guys are headed if you don't get your October!

Ship, or available in-store? It would be a good chance they're available in-store maybe even the next day, while custom models take longer to ship.

I definitely remember buying my 2011 the day they were released but since the new MBPs will be new products it's fairly likely there will be some kind of delay.

lol, Apple really makes buying a Mac a gamble game.

Just made an account and first post here! Though I've been a lurker for what feels like forever.

There is no escape.

Started waiting for the MacBook Pro after getting into college (got into my reach school so, being a privileged ****, was getting the pro as a reward/gift). I'm now mid-semester sophomore year, and had applied early, so.

It's been almost two ****ing years man. I know you all feel my pain, I've been silently commiserating since - well, not the beginning, but... (and kudos to all you original troopers, damn.)

Couple years back my high school got me a mid-2012 MacBook Pro, which means I had no choice in configuration (but hey, free laptop!), so base config it was, no retina or SSD. Photoshop sputters that machine to a grueling slog, and it once took over 10 minutes to boot it up and get google docs up to take notes - class was already 1/5 over!

Got a chromebook to hold me over January this year. While obviously no workhorse, the simple difference of a SSD blew my mind.

Couple days ago the LED screen broke somehow, so now I'm doing work on a ****** TV monitor. Repairing it isn't even worth the price. Alas, this new laptop CAN'T COME ****ING FAST ENOUGH.

Do I need the new MacBook Pro line? Hell no lmao. My needs are perfectly fulfilled by the current line-up.

But who gives a flying ****? Skylake! Redesign! Give it to meeee. Apple better come through.

(As a side note, wrote this on my iPad Pro.

...I love it, and it's breathtaking for art, but it's not a computer. Not even close. GET WITH IT APPLE.)

edit: totally didn't notice how much I cursed until the asterisks censored everything hahahaha

Swearing is not only accepted but expected at this point.

if they put a macOS on a device like iPad and they fix that stupid iPad screen aspect ratio then my dream will come true..

but they will never do that ..

Couple questions.

1. Are we expecting all 15" models to come with dGPUs and if not, what kind of performance are we expecting from the integrated options? I'm thinking in terms of games like Overwatch.

2.
Are we expecting there to be a range of colours eg. the matte black available?

3.
Are we expecting this thing to ship this month?

4. I've been waiting for 2 years, this was beyond a joke about 12 months ago, it's now so far beyond being beyond that I am starting to worry about my sanity. Can anyone recommend any antipsychotics in case there's no event this month?

Knowing Apple, I doubt the new dgpu would be even able to run Overwatch at high settings, let alone the igpu

I'm not sure why anybody would need 64 gb RAM in a notebook.
I, and others in my field (music composition, full orchestral scores) need as much ram as we can get.

16gb max?? What year is it?? Laughable, the absolute minimum ram they can put in (that I can reasonably justify spending the kind of money they will undoubtedly be asking for) is 32 GB. I'm hoping for 64, which would allow me to mostly replace a desktop (but I could easily use 128 if they gave it to me). That's just for my virtual instruments + plug ins. Then if you add in Virtual Machines for various purposes it gets expensive fast. 64GB was available in other laptops out last year (example: thinkpad P90).

I'm not alone either, there's a lot of us (other fields besides music composition) that need MOAR! RAM for heavy work. Yeah I know, most of you don't need this, and for some reason people think the laptops are too thick / heavy? WTF? Eat a meal, and use your arms occasionally sheesh. As time moves on the trend is always to use greater amounts of resources anyway, and this will hopefully be my main machine for years to come. Here would be a good place to quote the classic Bill Gates line about no-one ever needing more than 64k ram ever. Yeah, how did that work out? Heh

Frankly, if the ram was still user replaceable in the current 2015 model I probably would've bought one already and then later just do an aftermarket upgrade on the ram down the road when someone undoubtedly would make chips of greater capacity but that ship has sailed.

And yeah I realize Apple doesn't care about me or my kind anymore, I realize everybody in Cupertino appears to be drunk on the mountain of profits from i-stuff and has seemingly forgotten all of us, but they have people like me (and most of you in this thread) over a barrel because just look at our options: Windows? **** that, ChromeOS? Might as well go iPad pro then, Linux? A pain in the ass, (but honestly looking more and more like the way to go if apple can't throw us a bone).

That leaves apple, and what are the choices there? A Mac Pro? Yeah go view the trail of dead and the oceans of salty tears in that forum if you aren't well aware already.. iMac? I guess, but if I'm buying non-upgradable laptop parts anyway, why not get the portability too? Mac Mini? Gimped, and likely dead anyway. That leaves the MacBook Pro and for ****s sake, here I am 3 years later with all you other poor bastards (I love you!) still waiting for skylake with the possibility it won't even be released or available this year.

AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!

A little birdy tells me Apple has run into reliability issues with the 15" MBP's and their dedicated GPU's some time back. They got the heat dissipation wrong for those chips' thermal envelope (because they tried to aggressively to cut down on thickness). This caused delays and some heated discussions with three options
- pull a hail Mary and release the systems and wait for enough buyers of GenA systems to complain to offer replacements
- release late and miss the holiday season
- underclock the GPU and risk underwhelming performance
I don't know what came off this, but buyers of the first systems should be careful.

This actually don't sound entirely impossible. It definitely seems that something out of the ordinary is going on, probably it's a combination of several factors that cause them delaying the expected major upgrade of MBP.

I'm quite sure :apple: want it out asap, on the other hand they want it to be something very special and will not take the risk of putting themselves in a Galaxy Note 7 scenario of sorts, where marketing concerns completely override quality concerns.

When the new model is finally released it would be fascinating to see a comparison of what was actually going on at Apple compared to the time line of this thread.

Let's say a quarterly breakdown of the development process, their initial project goals, the major challenges and the major decisions taken in the project projected on a time line and then compare it to the expectations, hopes and speculations of their most dedicated MBP customers, as expressed in this thread.

I am starting to worry about the future of the PC than the macbooks right now. Apple is a for profit company, and if they don't make enough money on computers they will just do as they are doing now-outdated over priced products.

The problem is Windows is horrible to use(I don't get how people like this OS) and Linux seems like it will never be a real alternative for the common consumer.

Just wondering, how did you get things done in 2002? My iMac came with 256MB ram. It was top of the line.

Dude why can't you VNC into a Server doing all of whatever in the world you want?

I honestly am a Remote Desktop Whore. I have like 7 machines I completely run from Apple Remote Desktop. Doing various tasks, serving, running old Apps etc, coding, Rendering 3D etc.

Just saying. I mean my old 17 inch the main reason, like 40% of the reason I bought the thing, was because it had a 1920x1200 screen so I could control the 4 Mac Pros I have that are all assigned 1920x1080, and it gave me perfect room to have my menu bar and the dock at the bottom with the VNC screen fitting exactly in the leftover space. It was emasculate for VNC.

Just saying Remote Desktop Viewing is what I do like crazy, like at Starbucks for instance. VPN-VNC etc...to server just sitting at home...

Good Luck!

Note, I mean don't get me wrong I know there are certain tasks you just can't do, i.e. Video Capture to the home base etc, but...
