Don't expect it to perform like a desktop. The heat dissipation is not good enough without some kind of throttling. That's just physics.
Besides, with the money you pay for that laptop ($2,779.00), you could buy a similar spec'd machine, but with 2x GeForce 1080 (that's 2x graphics performance, not accounting for throttling issues of the laptop)

Guys do you think, that Apple will continue to offer BTO-options or adopt the tier system as known from the rMB?

Like, for example, low tier with 16GB/256GB, mid tier with 32GB/512GB/faster CPU and top tier with 32GB/1TB/even faster CPU with dGPU?
They also have BTO with the MacBook (1.3gHz with 256GB). So yes

Can anyone check to see if any of the venues for the possible locations of the events has been rented out yet? Or scheduled for Apple or whatever? I'd do it but I don't know where to check and what venues to check.

Well, this week is probably going to be the week we see some firm news either way. If they holding some kind of event the invites will have to go out this week at some point.

Said it before, I would be surprised if they were to use Moscone or Bill Graham for a Mac event. Both are really big venues, I just don't think there is the interest.

I know and agree but it was easier to copy and paste for the persons request

Hey everyone. I'm currently away from college and spent the weekend with my uncle, who works in marketing at Apple. I've been pestering him all weekend, asking him if he knew anything about the Macbook Pro. His response would be to smile and say that he couldn't tell me anything. But tonight, he got pretty drunk and said he would tell me some information if I promised to "shut the **** up about the new macbooks." He said that they were working on marketing material for the new MacBook Pros, but at the beginning of this month corporate told them to stop and reassigned them to other projects. He also said that the 13inch MacBook Pro had a version without the OLED TouchBar and a more expensive version with the TouchBar. The TouchBar version was apparently supposed to be marketed as the "premium" device. Finally he mentioned that prices were up about $200 across the board.

If the 27th really is the day, we should see invites go out no later than Thursday the 20th. If we don't see invites by this Thursday then I think we are left with 2 possibilities:

1. Apple has decided to release the new MBP without an event

2. Apple has decided to delay the launch into November (or beyond)

I don't like either of those options (especially the 2nd) so let's hope we see some invites soon. Then we can spend the next 100 or so pages, trying to decipher the invitation.

Hmm, your first post on this board. Welcome back, Serban!

If the event is Thursday the 27th, which is looking like our most likely option, then we'll probably see invites go out this Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday.

What is everyone predicting they'll do to the portable Mac lineup?

I think new 13.3/15.4 MacBook Pros with Skylake all USB C/Thunderbolt 3 i/o are pretty much a given, I also think that the rumours of a MacBook Air refresh are incorrect and this other 13 inch machine that has been rumoured is actually a bigger version of the 12 inch MacBook.

I just don't see why they would refresh the Air at this point. If they give it a full makeover, retina screen etc it would just take sales away from the MacBook. I think most people who have bought the MacBook only did so because they thought the Air wasnt getting retina.

I agree on the Air, it was great and filled a need in the day but the MacBook is already small as it should be.

Remember the days when it was

13 MacBook and 15 MacBook Pro

Good old days of easy to understand product lines.

I just spoke to my uncle (Tim Cook), and he said that your uncle is lying. He also mentioned something about firing your uncle? Idk.
