There ain't going to be a Gen 3. Either this is the last x86_64 MacBook Round of updates (2016-17) or in and around 2 years is the last round of MacBook updates. ArmBooks... bank on it. So we will get Gen 2 50% chance x86_64...in 2018-19 (but no Gen 3)...

I think they might phase them in and mix things up, with ArmBooks taking the place of the MacBook (nothing) and then the rMBP getting finalized, then what would be x86_64 Gen 2 of these form factors (Oled Bar etc) and go down to just two Type-C...

And then the whole Mac App Store will be the only way to get apps (ArmApps) on the Machines...

It's going to be a harsh life for some of us...

But fan-less low power fast ArmBooks with iGPUs from the ArmChips is all we're probably going to get...

Being a developer will be great tho, to have Xcode for Arm, on an ArmBook and to run an iOS app natively to test...

Who knows we may even get touch screens on our laptops.

There is only one reason why this might not happen:

If Apple gets a little apprehensive due to the fact that Microsoft had x86_64 and Windows RT for ARM (at the same time) which FAILED Miserably!

But I think Apple is going to go head forward because they are making the chips and going full force dedication to ARM.

If you think about it, if the Mac is going to survive with macOS, it's going to have to make the transition to ARM some time, and Apple has the experience. I would love to see like an Arm Quad Processor "Mac Pro" that would be cool...

But who knows right? (it's all going to be about the SpaceShip Campus and ARM)

I don't think there will be an ARM MacBook because Apple knows it will confuse the product line. Apple likely wants to move beyond the laptop rather than create a new category of it. The iPad is likely to evolve even more to be future of mobile/desktop style computing. Apple is likely to life more successful elements from the Surface Pro.

Multi-tasking is a huge part of the resistance why devices like the iPad are losing the battery against traditional notebooks. Apple will likely make future versions of iOS more desktop friendly. Example, multi-tasking, local file system integrated with iCloud, floating windows. If Apple adds those three basic features, combined with a future A12X Fusion CPU, I don't see what would prevent any user from not wanting to use one.

I don't think mouse support is necessary, I don't even use the touch pad that much on my SP3, scrolling and swiping actually feels more natural. The iPad has that; throw in the smart keyboard with some cool commands and a lot of users would be happy.

What's so bad about a redesign and guinea pigs and stuff like that? Literally everything that the laptop is rumored to have has been used before by Apple. The butterfly keyboard has already been used for 2 years now. The force touch trackpad has been a major success by all accounts. Touch ID is, as always, nearly impeccable and very safe. USB C ports, well, they're ports. They work fine. The only thing that one should be a little worried about is the integration of the OLED bar. and even then, if it malfunctions early on, you always have a year of warranty.

There shouldnt be any fears with this product despite it being a Gen 1 redesign (in my honest opinion)

I guess you were living in a cave when the gen Retina MacBook Pro launched in 2012; even though it was still using a of standard components that Apple used in the conventional MacBook Pro at the time.

- Faulty Retina Displays was a big deal
- Performance issues because of the resources needed to drive that Retina display
- Yellowing of the display was also an issue.

Some of these issues even affected the redesigned iMac when it launched. Even the 2013 revisions of the MacBook Pro continued to experience problems. So my recommendation does have merit.

The last I checked, the MacBook's butterfly keyboard is not great and reviews out there and my own time playing with one would say so.

You are talking about a company that produces a product called Macbook Air that is thicker than Macbook, released a phone called iPhone SE at the same time it was selling something called iPhone 6s+ and sells an iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro in the same size and design.

- Here is the difference, the MacBook Air and MacBook all use x86 processors. Which means, all desktop macOS software is guaranteed to work, regardless of the brand or model.

- iPhone SE is a 4 inch smartphone, I don't see how that could be confused with a larger iPhone. Its about meeting market demand. A lot persons out there don't like or want 4.7 or 5.5 inch devices.

- iPad Air 2 and iPad Pro, I agree, but the fundamental difference is, they are both the same; they are not using some alternative platform or architecture, they are still iPads. They run the same iOS apps, but there are small distinctions such as Pencil Support, True Tone, better camera, improved display.

An ARM MacBook would be running ARM based version of macOS for which there exist no desktop apps other than those Apple bundle and releases through the App store. Considering how bad the Mac app store is today just for x86, I bet it would be even worse under ARM. Sure, Apple could enable some switch to make iOS apps run out of the box in a windowed mode, but it would still not be macOS x86 that can run traditional desktop apps. The market has proven with the Surface RT, looks like Windows, but can't run Windows software.

Guys, I had ramen noodles today and they told me, their cousins nephew has some review units on his table.
So I contacted him for a statement and he sent me exclusive shots of the new MacBook Pro 2016.

Fake but amazing.
Can't wait for it.
Make it happen, Apple.
Make it happen!

Invites can go from today to the 20th/21st, right?

Well we don't know anything for certain in this thread but if the event is on the 27th it is reasonally to conclude, looking at previous events, that the invites will go out this week. But again, we don't anything really.

Invites to whom? The journalists on the east coast will struggle to attend and be part of event, if they only give a couple of days notice.

No, I meant, if the event is on the 27th if the invites can go out at any time between now and the 20th/21st, giving 7-10 days notice.

Ok, I see. Sorry for the misunderstanding. I think I was having a brain fart.

Yeah the window is still open for an October event, but that window is indeed closing fast.

The more I think about it, the more I find it unlikely that there will be an event.

I would think that to hold an event there would need to be at least two brand new products and a few other incremental updates. macOS has already been released, the MacBook was just updated in April, and I can't see them doing redesigns for the iMac, Mac Mini or Mac Pro. Oh and the only other product of note launching this month is the AirPods, which have also already been fully disclosed.

So the question is: Would Apple hold a press event for new MacBook Pros/Airs, or will they just do a detailed product page with nice Jony Ive introduction / design films? THE MYSTERY IS KILLING ME.

True but they could announce the release of the Mac along with the Airpods becoming available as well. Maybe some info on how MacOS will be better on the new machines.

i still think mac os sierra 10.12.1 is holding up the macbook pros from being released. 10.12.1 should be released along side iOS 10.1 and watch OS 3.1 hopefully in the next two weeks.

Well, that's your opinion regarding the butterfly keyboard. I can easily come out and say that "my own time playing with one" was great, because it truly was - for me. I can also say that I've seen tons of reviews out there that say that it definitely grows on you. Now there are a lot of people who strongly prefer the new keyboard.

And regarding the Retina display, that's literally the only problem you've listed, just like how the only problem I listed was the OLED touchbar. if the touchbar is faulty, has performance issues because of the resources needed to drive a 1 inch tall panel, and yellowing of the touchbar, are also an issue for this one, then you can come find me and say "i told you so". The only thing that I can see happening with this touchbar is it being faulty, and even then, I'm personally pretty confident that Apple will at least include some sort of safeguard until you get it fixed (not unlike the iPhone 7's home button: http://gizmodo.com/look-what-happens-when-the-iphone-7s-home-button-breaks-1787874037).

I agree. Whether it's an event or press release, we should know about 10.12.1 first.

Lol what if they release a MacBook Pro SE with the same design as 2012, new colors (including rosegold :D )

Of course its a hurried Photoshop-Fake, but I'd really like to see something announced like this in ten days.
Black color, dynamic function row, faster internals, that's all I want.

When you order BTO in Germany, delivery will be 24-26th of October. Maybe that's the last batch of those old rMBP?
I'm curious what will happen when you try to order in the next days. Will it jump to "not available"?
We'll see. :D

iOS WILL NEVER REPLACE A FULL OS (macOS/Linux/Windows).

You can't have a walled off machine replace a completely customizable machine. Even with macOS, if they were to force apps to only install via the app store I can guarantee you people would move away.

There will be an event when they release the MBP. Apple will be too proud of it to just release them by a press release. It will be a major update, and I'm sure they won't have a hard time to fill the event time. Just tell some BS around it (like Mario Kart or whatever) and then proudly present the MBP. I'm pretty convinced they find a press release way too small to tell the world about the new MBP.

God, the new thought that's creeping into my mind is that they'll push it back to November (early/mid). Just before the black friday event here in the US. We've been talking about how they always have an October event, but at the end of the day we're in completely new territory. Record delay to practically every line. And considering the iPhone 7 used the same design of the two previous generations they likely expected lower sales numbers. Then they still sold extremely well, and then the Note7 recall is going to boost their sales even greater. I just don't see the pressure to push anything now.

lol Mario Kart. i wouldnt at all be surprised, after how much they seemed to emphasize it at the iphone event.

i think we see Macs, clear purchase date on the airpods, reaffirming that the Nike Watches will be available on the 28th, maybe some more stuff about the iWork stuff all syncing together (the google docs thing they did). Talk about security and the environment, iphone and ios 10 adoption rates, etc. maybe a new iPod touch or something ahaha
