Just thinking, what if Apple drops a newly designed MBP with OLED strip...but uses the same old Haswell/Broadwell chips!

Now that would be cruel. :)

Sooner or later those are going to be cut off from Intel. I doubt they would risk sticking with a processor with unknown future availability. Or it could be the opposite. Maybe their plan is to stick with the cheapest available procs and only upgrade to the next cheapest available procs when they're no longer available. No one can say for certain with the Apple of today.

My late-2008 model MBP is 92 months old. It still works fine, just very sluggish (even after upgrade to 8GB RAM). And it's still running an old OS, so it's also not secure and a lot of programs won't run on it. Luckily I'm not in urgent need of an upgrade/replacement like it sounds like you are, so I'll keep holding out at least until the end of the month to see if they release the 2016s. I haven't been paying attention to Mac news, so actually I had no idea a new release was even happening possibly soon until I was about to buy my new MBP today and started googling for processor choice suggestions and stumbled upon the rumors. Glad I waited!

That's awesome - glad your computer still working ok. I work in mobile dev and always need the latest dev tools which consequently need the latest operating systems which....demand more and more from your hardware. They engineer needs for upgrades so well. Going to wait till the end of the month and if nothing then, i'll end up getting one.

Microsoft and most PC companies have been with one chip the WHOLE time
ARM was the first time a PC company (Microsoft) even really tried to switch
people over. Believe me they wanted to and thought they had something
cutting edge. But the plain and simple fact was they couldn't cut it...

Well, I was kinda focusing on the past 10 years, also regardless of those processor changes you mentioned, the classic Mac OS never changed, it was still the same Mac OS from 1984 to 2001.

Also, please note that Microsoft has never been with one chip the whole time, so I guess that's not in your memory bank. Windows NT was originally designed as a portable operating system. Version 3.1 to 4.0 supported MIPS, Alpha and PowerPC. Some Windows 2000 editions such as Datacenter and Advanced Server supported Itanium, along with XP and Server 2003 supporting Itanium on the desktop and server. These were limited to expensive workstations and high end servers. Also, Itanium support continued until Windows Server 2008.

We are all aware of Windows RT which itself flopped because of a lack of desktop apps.

Even though many of these processor technologies became defunct, the fact is, it was part of the Windows family at some point or another. Windows 10 and Server 2016 which are the current client and server versions can trace their lineages back these variants.

In fact, when Dave Cutler started work on NT, he intentionally did not target x86 to avoid being pulled into the architecture and purposely compiled and self hosted Windows NT initially on MIPS then compiled for other platforms.

The delay is because of their new hardware. The new CPU is a neural net processor...a learning computer.

The main reason tho, is Apple wants developers to get paid from the App Stores. Minimal Piracy, they want to make bootlegs a thing of the past. For the new generations...

Right, Apple's worried about the financial's of the developers. Please, they're concerned with getting a 30% cut with EVERYTHING that gets put on an Apple device. I'll NEVER buy a device that can only run applications in a sandboxed environment. Fine for my phone/tablet, but not my workhorse. I don't know anyone that's fine with buying a all terrain vehicle, but then only being able to take it on manufacturer approved terrain. Makes sense for a rMB/Air sized device, but what's the point of doing that for a Pro machine. Pro users need to be able to customize their platform before anything else.

I can almost taste Tim Cook up on stage in a couple weeks: "Just launching last month, the iPhone 7 blah blah, launching in more countries, our users taking beautiful portraits already, blah blah, iOS 10 adoption rate. Now with AirPods, truly wireless, etc."

Then he launches into, "We haven't forgotten about our bread and butter products. Mac has always been the soul of Apple. And today we have a few exciting things to share with you. First up, the MacBook. Two years ago, we launched the new MacBook. It was an incredible innovation from many different aspects. It embraced our passion for a wireless world. So we asked ourselves... how do we bring this new design to our other products? We haven't forgotten that our customers still love our Air and Pro laptops. First up, the MacBook Pro has always been the perfect balance of portability and raw power. That's why today, we're announcing an all new design. And here it is." *Cue reveal video of the bombest most fire MBP we could have ever imagined* Then Tim walks back on stage holding this work of art. "This... is the new MacBook Pro. We spent a lot of time getting it just right and we think you're going to love it. To tell you all about it, here's Phil Schiller." *thunderous applause*

"Adoption rate" "Soul" "incredible" DING DING DING! We should make bingo-tickets! You forgot **remarkable**! I read that piece of text in Tim's voice, emphasising the words like he does and all!

Holy Sh*t I can see it all in my head and it all looks awesome!

If there's no new MBP's this year, Apple's got a pretty weak lineup going into the holiday buying season.
I hope shareholders grill Cook on what is going with Macs, at the upcoming earnings report.

Would they tell shareholders if a new MBP is on the way?

I doubt it means anything, but I've just checked how long it would take to pick-up the base 13" MBP with 16gb of RAM in a store in London: October 27th.

Make the same request for an iMac and you can have it by October 25th.

Again, I doubt it means anything. My computer happened to finally crap out today and I had a look.

15 inch 2.5 ghz/512 gb with igpu is $400 off right now. So tempting but i know if I buy it they're gonna announce the new MBP tomorrow or something lol
That's why it's on such a good offer, because so many poor souls will fall in the trap before you know it 27th is here and new macs have dropped.
