There is no point at all in apple keeping the air. Their lineup was air for ultra portable and pro for workhorse. They replaced the air with the rMB as the ultra portable and they will update the pro.

What is the point of having a laptop that sits in no-mans land between the two.

You said 'rumors', but now you say brain. Are the rumors in your brain? :D
Reread what I wrote or maybe use some common sense. I said the rumors seem to support a certain pricing structure; there's deductive reasoning implicit in the entire statement. I never said there are pricing rumors.

Thats not really a rumor regarding the price, you're just assuming they'll raise it
There are no price rumors; I wasn't claiming any either. I was just applying logic to whatever information we have available.

They need a machine at $999. The Air must be that machine, since the 12" MacBook starts at $1299.

I agree with this, but how do you think they'll do it? You can't go lower than a m-series processor in speed, so the Air may even get Kaby Lake. At this point, it's a better machine than the MB right off the bat. Maybe the rMB drops to $999? It's not unprecedented, we saw it happen with the MBA and both rMBP's in the past. There's also the black sheep cMBP; I wonder if Apple will keep one of the now OG laptops to fill this role, like the current base 13" rMBP... Can't wait for next week!

Macrumors is saying it will be just an update with a press release there is not going to be any event held and hence no invites sent out, how many of you guys believe that it is going to be a silent upgrade, without an event.

when will this thread close by the way? when the new MacBooks are announced? or when they go on sale?

or will it ever end?

It will never end.

More seriously though, I think it will end when people will start receiving this damn Skylake MBP.
At that point, we will open a new thread: "Waiting for receiving the Skylake MBP", that will reach 1300 in the time the MBP will be upgraded to the next Intel architecture.
Meanwhile, we'll all join also "Waiting for Kaby Lake".

Damn, if those are going to be the prices for the MBP, I'll have to sell my liver to buy one...
:D

Well, it actually says –
"it is unclear if there will be an event to announce the new machines. There have been no hints of an event and no invites have been sent out, so it's possible Apple will debut the machines more quietly, with just a press release."

Keep on hanging in there brothers and sisters!

Did you buy a first gen rMBP 15"? Because it was $2299, and that was in 2012 dollars; it would be about $2400 now...

The dad of the classmate of my cousin has a colleague who has a friend who has Tim Cook on LinkedIn. And he says there WILL be an event. So stop saying things about "a silent update" or "press release" please. Just 9 more days and we can admire the MBP at the event!

Did he mention what we get for posting in this thread for so long?

Question is it usually possible to get newly released Macs on the 0% 12 month finance deal that Apple offers?
Assuming you have decent enough credit, yeah, there's no restriction that I'm aware of.

How does the Skylake iGPU compare to the current iGPU in Macbooks? Especially for light gaming?

I guess noone is playing Diablo on the Retina MacbookPro at native resolution, right? You always have to use the scaling to decrease temps and not have a hairdryer at maximum volume?

1 post on the homepage of MBP news and the whole thread explodes! :D

I'm hoping if Apple gets rid of the Magsafe, they will build it into their cable instead. So the USB C plug remains in the computer but at the end of the plug is a magnetic connection to the cord - this would be the best of both worlds - a universal port with their incredible 'hazard free' charging. I mean when they patent the idea so well no one copies it, it'd be stupid to get rid of it, right? Or, maybe they want to promote AppleCare+ for MBPs now too...

I vote that there has to be some kind of fanfare, if no event there must be a Press Release with Jony Ive video and reviews in tow (with Ming's comments I'm hopeful for a Press Release though)

No USB-A, no SD-Card and no Magsafe make it almost a deal breaker.

This guy better come out with 2015 CPU tech with at least 15-20% price increase to make up for it.

Well , define "light" ... ;)

(I hope I got the right Igpu)

waaaas linked the iGPU of the 15", the iGPU of the 13" will probably be the Intel Iris 550. http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-Iris-Graphics-550.149937.0.html not sure wich one you are talking about. The one in the 15" would be okay for light gaming but the one in the 13" nah

Yeah I was trying to compare the 13" iGPUs. Light gaming meaning occassional Hearthstone and EVE Online. I'm arguing if I should buy an Air especially for its low res screen. My logic dictates, that the Pro barely has enough power to run all those pixels in EVE and thus I would have to downscale it, which makes the image wuality worse than the 1400-900 on the Air.
Or am I wrong?

Getting rid of the Magsafe is particularly ******, especially since we have all invested hard in those dumb, fragile chargers. And they've updated them again and again...

The price increase is ****** too : "That's what you get, people, for getting an outdated machine! you'll pay even MORE, because we can. Oh and yeah you'll have to replace those extra chargers too."

But I'm european, so those 2400$ mean ≃ 2800€
Don't ask why.
This is so awful. We pay so much more... And for no particular reason either. Well, in Norway at least you get a 5 year warranty by default so it's nice, but still.
