5 years ? Wow, that is a nice deal you have. Have you ever tried to bring it back to Apple without Apple Care after one year ? Means AppleCare is useless to you ...
In Europe we have 2 years warranty which is mandatory to all manufacturers but it's quite a thing to try and have them honor it apprently after the standard 1 year (never tried).

yeah the European warranty is pretty good already, but indeed I've heard stories about them honoring it.
Norwegian law forces retailers to offer 2 years, and manufacturer 5 years (note that the first two years overlap). Applies to individual only, for all electronics and (forgot the word, stuff like dishwashers etc? ).
Used it once with a Samsung TV, it was nice to get back my money after 3 years of use :)

As a side note, I think this should be that way everywhere in Europe, since we pay more already, and also because it forces shops and manufacturers to sell products which lasts.

Think its great that you guys are finally getting new MacBook Pro's but my assumptions back in July (don't think I post them) could be coming true.

a) all usb-c is a dealbreaker for me. I use the old-style usb ports for my iPhone, etc). I do have a usb-c port on my dell xps 15 inch; however, I haven't used it once.

b) with all usb-c coming, the elimination of magsafe, which is no big surprise. However, I wonder how many broken usb-c ports will be reported because of people tripping over the new power cords or moving their macbooks while plugged in and not realizing their cord is snagged or caught on something (chair, etc).

c) OLED bar. Cool but it remains to be seen how many apps will be updated to take advantage of it. Another question is if only apps from the Mac App store can take advantage of the OLED bar or if all apps (steam, apps purchased directly for developer site, etc) can use the functionality of the OLED bar. For all of you, I sure the hell hope that apple doesn't gimp this feature and make it apps from the app store only. I can see Adobe, MS office, world of Warcraft, and many more none app store games & apps that would go dreamy over the OLED bar.

d) Price. Like others here, I'm expecting a price increase on all MacBook Pro's. I'm really curious on the price of the 15 inch models and how the specs compare to my dell xps 15 inch. back to the prices, for the 15 inch, 200 bucks Canadian at least price bump for each model. So that would be 2650 for the base 15 inch & 3250 for the high end one. For the 13 inch, not sure. Could be a $100 price bump or go with the 200.00 price bump.

1) if no invites today, we are in big ****

2) new macbook air?? What about the macbook 2016 released earlier this hear?

The Air is their biggest seller, they couldn't throw it away. But maybe they will out the 11" and give the 13 a similar position to what the rMBP has had for 4 years : entry level for the lesser budget, whilst encouraging to go seek the retina model.

I would certainly hope that the OLED bar is not limited to the sandboxed environment as I want to incorporate the functionality into my app that requires elevated privileges.
That would be a real shame.

That would definitely suck of it was only available for Mac App store apps only. But with Tim Cooke at the helm, I wouldn't be surprised one bit if this happens.

Thursday seems to be the most popular day for sending out invites over recent years so don't give up hope just yet.
That's under a week's notice for invites, (if Apple is shooting for a 27th event) which may be an issue for some journalists to make it, i.e., smaller attendance.

I'm sure all journalist who cover Apple regularly have a pretty good idea when the next event might be. They are prepared well in advance...

Good point, but since most flights are non-refundable, and they may have other activities already booked for that time, there still could have less folks there. Of course apple will seed the auditorium with apple employees to give it a more full appearance.

Not to mention Skylake, which is already last-gen...I'm hanging out in this forum out of pure curiosity, no intention whatsoever of buying a Skylake Macbook Pro. If there's a spec bump in March with Kaby Lake, I'll be all for it.

If not Apple, at least Rockstar Games is readying up to unveil a product I've waited for a long time (6 years to be precise).

if the new MacBook Pro doesn't come out by the end of October, I'm buying a 12in MacBook. I can't stand my 9 year old Windows laptop anymore.
Weird. If you are waiting to buy a Macbook Pro, how can the Macbook be a substitute? Either you dont need the power of a Macbook Pro or the macbook won't be enough.

If the new MBP are not coming soon I'll get some powerful windows machine in 2 months (tops) cause for my needs I can't get a Macbook, and the old MBP is too expensive for what it offers

I swear I was thinking about this game a few days ago wondering whether we'll ever see another one. And there it was yesterday :0

Watching Westworld reminded me of it!

Is RDR 2 coming to the Mac? :)

Not sure. If not, we always have boot camp though. :)

Yeah I thought they would release a new IP...I think it was called Agent, but this was also expected cause of rumours from last year.

I think it's pretty strategic of them unveiling this with the current Westworld hype going on.

I think it's extremely unlikely that the OLED bar would be restricted to App store apps. The apps that would really benefit are the large pro apps that make extensive use of function keys.

The more I think about this, the more I'm convinced there will not be an event. Rather, I think there will be a press release with fancy Jonny Ive video showing off every angle of the MBP. I'm just not convinced that there's enough in the release to warrant a full event. Other than us nerds giddy for the release, I don't think the public or media at large gives a hoot about new MBPs.
