Fresh rumor hits the front page, backing up a handful of other rumors from multiple sources for an October launch of the MBP and MBA.

Some people: Looks like November / Next year is most likely / It's not happening / Why do we need the MBA; people can just pay $300 more a MB

This is so awful. We pay so much more... And for no particular reason either. Well, in Norway at least you get a 5 year warranty by default so it's nice, but still.

5 years ? Wow, that is a nice deal you have. Have you ever tried to bring it back to Apple without Apple Care after one year ? Means AppleCare is useless to you ...
In Europe we have 2 years warranty which is mandatory to all manufacturers but it's quite a thing to try and have them honor it apprently after the standard 1 year (never tried).

Would a MBP be capable of charging over USB?

I think the reason the rMB has no magsafe is because it just doesn't work with something so small and light. They probably tested it and ended up with a few broken laptops. So they could have put magsafe on it and had people complain, as it would lure people into a false sense of security. Or remove it and have people understand that if they yank it, it will drop...

Also isn't the point of USB 3 that you can power multiple devices by it? Hubs and stuff? Why would they include 4 USB ports? Two would make most people happy. With magsafe and SD reader.

I would think USB-C could have enough power, but I really don't have the technical knowledge to say for certain.

On another note, I think today is the last day of invites that can go out, if Apple wants to release a MBP in October - just my opinion but after today, the time is getting too short imo

It's pretty easy. You're right about the 2 years warranty in Europe. However Apple only supports 1 year. So let's say you've bought your MacBook at the Mediamarkt (retailer). If it needs to be repaired within 1 year, you can go to Apple or to Mediamarkt. Both of them will repair it. If it's need to be repaired after that 1 year, Mediamarkt is the only place you can go since Apple won't repair it for you anymore. The retailer has to offer 2 years warranty, according to the law you're referring to.

So, long story short, if you want 2 years support from Apple itself you should buy the MacBook at an official Apple store.

Yeah I was trying to compare the 13" iGPUs. Light gaming meaning occassional Hearthstone and EVE Online. I'm arguing if I should buy an Air especially for its low res screen. My logic dictates, that the Pro barely has enough power to run all those pixels in EVE and thus I would have to downscale it, which makes the image wuality worse than the 1400-900 on the Air.
Or am I wrong?

I'm not an expert but I don't think downscaling makes it look worse. You can run it on a higher resolution and fidelity on the MBP so it would look better than on the air. (for experience with eve on mbp : https://www.reddit.com/r/Eve/comments/3908ua/how_well_does_the_game_run_on_a_macbook_pro/)

How would it run minecraft?

Looking at this video i would say yes :
and thinking that the new skylake version will graphical be quite a bit faster than this one.

I love that a staff member is waiting with us in this thread!:)

The rumors seem to support a price increase across the board.
Macbook - $1299
Macbook Air 13"- $1499
Macbook Pro 13"- $1699
Macbook Pro 15" $2299

I'm not sure any rumor has ever supported this. The new MBA will exist because of its low price. It will not have ultra-portability nor any bells and whistles (compared to the MB and MBP).

There is no point at all in apple keeping the air. Their lineup was air for ultra portable and pro for workhorse. They replaced the air with the rMB as the ultra portable and they will update the pro.

What is the point of having a laptop that sits in no-mans land between the two.

Sigh.

I agree with this, but how do you think they'll do it? You can't go lower than a m-series processor in speed, so the Air may even get Kaby Lake. At this point, it's a better machine than the MB right off the bat. Maybe the rMB drops to $999? It's not unprecedented, we saw it happen with the MBA and both rMBP's in the past. There's also the black sheep cMBP; I wonder if Apple will keep one of the now OG laptops to fill this role, like the current base 13" rMBP... Can't wait for next week!

The Air's processor will be better than the MB. They have the room and the (assuming) fan, so why settle? You don't buy the MB for the processor, you pay the extra cash for the ultra-portability and top of the line design.

I'm really, really interested to see what they do with this Air. Does it get the new design language? Retina screen? New keyboard? Just new ports and processors? I think they'll keep the form factor in silver with the Apple logo to show that it's the classic budget option. Retina is a given. They'll throw in USB-C to future proof it as the last design.

Just had a quick look at, USB 3.1 can support up to 5A 100W at 20V. The current one is 85W so it could support it. Although most of the chargers I see are around 30W (Which can charge the rMB). So you'd probably need a special higher rated power brick for it to charger over USB.

I think the benefit of USB charging on the rMB is that you can charge it anywhere with any USB Type C charger. If you still need a dedicated charger for it then what's the point? I don't think Apple would do this, Ive wouldn't allow it!

The justification is that you no longer need to have it plugged in all the time anymore. While I don't agree with this 100%, the fact that it standardizes the adapter protocol is worth the sacrifice of MagSafe. No more $80 chargers, no more proprietary cables.

This is exactly why I don't have an issue with the removal of MagSafe. Once Apple does it, everyone else will follow suit, and we all have one single cable for charging. It simplifies everything.

Reread what I wrote or maybe use some common sense. I said the rumors seem to support a certain pricing structure; there's deductive reasoning implicit in the entire statement. I never said there are pricing rumors.

Maybe next time say, "Based on rumors, I would guess that..."

Also, you're really basing your guess on iPhone pricing and history more than rumors. Apple likes to keep certain percentage margins on their products and laptop components (especially storage) have fallen significantly since the retina line emerged and the current price structure was created.

Getting rid of the Magsafe is particularly ******, especially since we have all invested hard in those dumb, fragile chargers. And they've updated them again and again...

The price increase is ****** too : "That's what you get, people, for getting an outdated machine! you'll pay even MORE, because we can. Oh and yeah you'll have to replace those extra chargers too."

Or just coat the charger ends in heat shrinking tubes, works wonders. Still on my original iPhone cables for 4 years now

btw 3h and a half until 8'o clock PDT.

Here in Italy is 1.30 pm. And I'm already ossessively refreshing Apple.com.

If the event is on 27th, the invitations might be sent even on Thursday. So, relax!

Although they can send it on a Thursday, it's far too late. That gives all the journalists exactly a week to book tickets and prepare. I believe we should have already seen an invitation by now for the 27th, and as that didn't happen, then today HAS to be the day. After today it'll seem late on their part.

Also recent Apple event invites have been sent more than a week earlier.

Not too late. 1 week is usual. Journalists don't book a vacancy, it's their job to travel if they have to.
