The more I think about this, the more I'm convinced there will not be an event. Rather, I think there will be a press release with fancy Jonny Ive video showing off every angle of the MBP. I'm just not convinced that there's enough in the release to warrant a full event. Other than us nerds giddy for the release, I don't think the public or media at large gives a hoot about new MBPs.

Agreed, but has there ever been a redesign WITHOUT an event?
Also, how else do you generate enough buzz about the new MBPs to reassure investors that you still care about a market as large as the iPad?

Fair points. Do we really think that they're going to haul media out to CA for a 30-minute presentation on a laptop? And as an investor, I care less about the presentation and more about the results. Assuming they do not do anything crazy with pricing, these new MBPs will sell like hotcakes.

A low key launch for the first major redesign of their premiere computing product in over 4 years would be a real signal of the important of the Mac (and general computing) to Apple. This may be the time to send that signal, but I will be no less distressed to see it.

I'm hoping for a 'proper' launch event, but if all the fluff and padding has been used up by earlier events this year, the low-key launch with a down-beat message may indeed be what we get.

Assuming there is any kind of launch this year at all...

[For page counters, I was going with the launch announcement when we hit page 1337, but I suspect this is a gross underestimate now.]

the only way i could see there being a event is if they talk about more then just the mac but unfortunately there are no other products to be released this year and the software updates are all minor enough that there really isn't anything worth mentioning to the public that we already know.

If not Apple, at least Rockstar Games is readying up to unveil a product I've waited for a long time (6 years to be precise).

I wanna take a moment to thank Uni Grad for these two pictures. not because I like the game even though I will buy it but because i know my brother really loves it.. long story short something happened to us and we don't talk to each other anymore since a long time... so I decided to send these pictures to him by whatssap.. i thought he will not response but thankfully he was really happy and was talking to me again.

so thanks Uni Grad, Rockstar and of course Apple for this long wait.. without you all this could never happen.

I think it's extremely unlikely that the OLED bar would be restricted to App store apps. The apps that would really benefit are the large pro apps that make extensive use of function keys.
Problem is that Cooke & Co doesn't get a share of the app sales if you buy an app outside the Mac App Store.

Cooke prefers an closed ecosystem IMO..hence is why he wants everyone to use iOS over Mac for their computing needs...which will be a cold day in hell when that happens.

I honestly go back and forth. At times I think its too late and Apple let the opportunity pass, but I think a October 20th invite for a 27th media event is still pretty reasonable, even if the notification is shorter then Apple typically offers.

I am starting to think Apple customers should start a boycott campaign for Apple until they get their hardware business right again. Even if the campaign fails, the PR damage will scare investors and wakeup Tim from his sleep.

Talking about warranty and support, if I'll buy my MBP at an official Apple Store, I'll have a 2 year full warranty, right? So, Apple Care is really necessary?

Also this is the new OLED keyboard for MBP – fresh off the press:

Not sure about that. I would ask at your nearest apple store or check out apple. In Canada it is:

Every Mac and Apple display comes with a one-year limited warranty and up to 90 days of complimentary telephone technical support. Extend your coverage to three years from your hardware product's original purchase date with the AppleCare Protection Plan.

I have a 2016 rMB. I could always use more cpu grunt, but it still manages 40MB raw files without a hiccup.

Where it falls down is the limit of 512GB and a single USB/power port. (USB-C hubs have "quirks", but direct USB-C to USB-A cables work flawlessly).
To be fair, this a lot of (most?) USB 3.0 hubs have quirks. I've only recently found one that hasn't been flaky.

There is something that still feels wrong: they've released the iPhone that connects to a USB-A port and now they will release a laptop that out of the box cant accept that iPhone since since all ports are USB-C? That seems very odd

It does, but then again, doesn't Apple embrace a fully wireless future with OTA updates and iCloud, meaning they probably don't expect the iPhone to be connected to the Mac all that often.

The warranty depends from where you buy a product. In EU it's 2 years, in US it's 1.

Have you guys ever thought about this:

IF there is NO event, just a press-release with a nice Ive-Video, maybe they aren't too sure about their own thing? I mean what if it turned out not as revolutionary as wished? I imagine that when you can hold a huge presser about the iPhone 7 featuring miniscule upgrades and then DON't hold a similar event when you're bringing your "most significantly upgraded" Macbook Pro to the table, something's fishy.

Basically do you guys fathom it's a stinker product when there is no big buzz around it?
Wouldn't they go all out guns-blazing, knowing the PRO community desperately needs new mobile computers?
Except... the product sucks.

I have a bad feeling about it. Most likely they had lots of trouble with Skylake chips (there were rumours suggesting this) and probably just "tacked on" the OLED bar to give it SOMETHING new and fresh. Even though I feel like it's a gimick no one ever asked for. Round it out with the Macbook's ****** flat keyboard, only marginally smaller bezels and some hidden 1st-gen quirk (they of course know of but release it anyways, crossing their fingers) and voila: ****** Macbook Pro Upgrade that doesn't warrant a Presser.

Thoughts?

It is, I've been thinking about it since the release of iPhone 7...very strange

This isn't an argument. You cannot use iOS for 95% of serious work that people do. You cannot build apps for the app store on an iOS device. MacOS is a large part of what ties people into the mac ecosystem. They make a huge amount out of their mac hardware.

You cannot have iOS without macOS. Its that simple. Tim Cook is not retarded. He knows that a huge part of the web is created by people using macs. All those millions of apps that make apple billions of dollars are written on macs. Can people stop slitting their wrists and declaring that apple don't care about something which is clearly vital to the companies future.

I own a rMP. By FAR best gadget i've ver owned. However, USB-C doesn't work 100%. It's not like USB B. Add to that, you need adapters (that also aren't 100%), and you have a 'I hate USB-C' problem.

It's not a deal breaker. Why? Well, Apple has acclimated us to this sort of muck-up, over...and over....and over.
