13 in. gold. oled display. p3 display, new keyboard, thinner, 10 hr battery, 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, 4 usb c, no backlit apple logo, idgaf processor but has to be 28w. $1499 with 100 dollars off student discount. and I want it now.

Maybe a little less than $1499. You may be high.

One thing that amazes me, reading this thread and others, is that many of you have really old machines (old = over 2 years, really old = over 4 years, ante-diluvian = 8 years). I don't mean that in a show-off way / arrogant way. I'm just an anonymous poster on a dumb thread :) but...
I understand better now why the pure perf don't matter to some/most of you, because no matter what is released it will be an upgrade. But then what are you doing with a MacBook PRO ? The reason I'm so bitter with the fact Apple sells outdated and overpriced hardware is because perfs REALLY impact my productivity.
I'd say as much as 1.5 /2 times more deliveries.
Which means I'll be impacted by whatever crap they release for a high price. Which means I'm annoyed my 2015 MBP is less good than my maxed MBP 2013.

Nope. We'll all be migrating to the "My MBP shipped!" Threads.

that sounds sad to me for some reason. it like a trip that started out with one brave person hitchhiking throughout Europe. as he kept going more and more people joined him. now he has thousands of followers all walking with him and making unforgettable memories along the way. this "migrating to other threads" is the same as all those people arriving at a airport and saying goodbye to each other as they all depart to various destinations.

10% of billions a year in revenue, they're not going anywhere regardless. Nobody's disputing the fact iPhone is king, of course it is when everybody and their grandma has one with a much shorter refresh cycle but to say Macs are dying is silly

The point is they aren't a priority are they aren't likely to be ever again. There is just hardly any growth potential even compared to the iPad.

Lets not pretend these aren't long overdue updates to a very tired line up.

Is anyone else struggling 13 vs 15?

Then again if Apple releases Mac Mini with Iris Pro 580.......
If the new external display is impressive and isn't breathtakingly expensive, I may go for the 13" and a display. I have a 15" rMBP now and I love it, but wish it was a little more portable.

That's the thing. I like my late 2013 15". It's just clunky compared to my rMP, which is more modern now.

Thanks. I see you're running the 2013 MBPr, are you worried that the 13" might be slower than your 15" currently?

I was planning to get the highest trim available but I have a separate gaming laptop now, so I won't even need to almost pretend to play games on it. If the new 13" comes with 16 GB base RAM it'll be tough.

I do worry about that. I think that as long as I had a powerful dual-core processor and the 16GB of RAM I'd be fine, but I would probably miss the dGPU and extra power. Catch 22!

The laptop that I'm using now is almost 10 years old. (2007). what does that make me?

Easy choice for me as my old eyes need at least a 15" laptop. LOL

So I've never been here for a new MBP release. Are they usually available for order that day or at a later date? I'm going to be driving home from a business trip and won't be near my local Apple Store. I need to order it from the store as I am buying it as a business customer.

So when are they usually available for order or pickup? And what if you do a custom configuration?

No, I need a quad core machine and could probably use the discrete graphics so its 15 inch for me.

If it has taken this long for an update, why do people think there is another update coming next year again for Kaby Lake?

Exactly. What part of this has given people the impression that they care about them using the latest processor ? :D

You know what's funny is that there was a "Waiting for Haswell" or Broadwell, something thread exactly like this one except not nearly as long, everyone said their goodbyes and that was that. Then someone tried to start a reunion thread (that got zero traction). It's very interesting how emotionally invested everyone is.

My early 2008 was only my main machine until about late 2011. Since then, I've been issued work computers, the vast majority being the most recent (at the time) 15" Macbook Pro. At this stage, I'm looking to upgrade my personal computer, and rely less on my work issued ones. Outside of work, I mostly use my computer for writing and some design work, so the retina screen as well as OSX/ecosystem keep me around. I'm also hoping to up my video work as well, so I'm hoping for the 14" screen in the 13" form factor because I find the 15" a little cumbersome as i'm often on the go or travelling. Each time I've had a work issued Windows computer it just reaffirms my commitment to the Mac. This is why I want, need, and have been waiting for the latest MBP.

Dear God  , how is that even possible ?
As to answer your question, I'm not sure what would be before ante-diluvian ( which IIRC refers to "before the Great Flood" ) , maybe pre-historic ? On the edge of nothingness ? Miraculous elder ?
But more seriously, you never upgraded anything, RAM or disk ? What do you do with it ?

Rumoured, based on the specs from wikipedia:
- 2015 launch
- Chips will use the 14 nm process node. Expect some decent battery life
- Support for DDR4 memory
- Support for PCIe 4.0

I also think that this will be the model where dGPUs and Apple will part ways in notebooks. I don't think we'll see a dedicated GPU, even as a BTO option.

What are your thoughts?

The post that started it all. @adildacoolset did you buy a MacBook Pro since you started this thread?

I'm sorta in the same situation, but opposite. I want to only rely on the work-issued ones because work is able to pay fr a stupidly priced machine (maxed out MBP) while I refuse to do so for my own machines.
Why don't you want to rely on work-issued ones, if I may ask ?

that's the thing, for video you need power (or you used to, haven't been in the biz since 2005 !). When Apple release their MBP, with outdated hardware, you probably lose on compression / processing time, compare to a windows machine ? At least I see that for my own work (programming).

Each time I've had a work issued Windows computer it just reaffirms my commitment to the Mac.
Yeah it's less awful in Windows 10 but still... Bleh.
Personally I'm still on the edge because it's between having to bear with Win10 or Linux (which let's be honest, is great for the code part but not so much for everything else) but fast processing, or macOS but with slow processing. Been with the later so far, but I feel I'm really on the edge now. Apple BS is going too far, and is not changing.

That guy was last on MacRumors on November 13th, 2013. Lord only knows what he's done all this time without a support community.

There are whispers. If they are to be believed, he retreated to the hills of Lusaka, Zambia and now rests in silent meditation at the very tops. Legend has it that when the MacBooks are finally released, he will awaken from his enlightened slumber and deliver to us a message from Steve Jobs.
