I'm sorta in the same situation, but opposite. I want to only rely on the work-issued ones because work is able to pay fr a stupidly priced machine (maxed out MBP) while I refuse to do so for my own machines.
Why don't you want to rely on work-issued ones, if I may ask ?

I just like the idea of keeping things separate. Plus there are things I like to do on my personal laptop (torrents mostly) that could possibly get a reprimand. My current firm's network guy is pretty chill, but i also still know he is able to read emails and monitor usage, so i just want to avoid that altogether. Plus, in my industry i tend to change jobs pretty often, so it's just a pain to keep toting all my files and data from computer to computer each time. I'd much rather work in a BYOD program, with them just giving me say half the price of the laptop and it's mine with no company access but I don't think I'm going to broach that subject just time around. This also is the reason why I may wait until initial reviews and user posts to come out before I dive in, because i really can afford to wait. Maybe even until next march to see if there's the mythical kaby lake upgrade, but that's all speculation right now - i need to see what they actually release first!

So many reasons. That particular machine could be recalled at any time. If you're at work and they say "hand it over" it could disappear. Also IT folk hate dealing with personal data on work rigs.

"Oh we're restoring your machine/giving you a new one."
"what about my email."
"its all on the server."
"ok. What about my baby pictures/novel/life's work. ITS MY ONLY COPY."
"?????"

Dear God  , how is that even possible ?
As to answer your question, I'm not sure what would be before ante-diluvian ( which IIRC refers to "before the Great Flood" ) , maybe pre-historic ? On the edge of nothingness ? Miraculous elder ?
But more seriously, you never upgraded anything, RAM or disk ? What do you do with it ?

upgraded from the original 2gb of ram to the max of 4gb. and installed a 256gb ssd but unfortunately only at sata2 speeds. :(. the only angle the display works at is around 30 degrees.

but hey it can play 720p 60fps YouTube videos. it's my only computer right now at college. I use it for everything. however recently since the display is messed up, I've been doing a majority of my media entertainment on my iPhone 6s where it plays 1080p h265 videos fine in vlc.

basically my iPhone 6s and that 10 year old laptop are the only technology I use. can't wait to get the new mbp.

The realisation that in growing impatient for the new MacBook Pro I spend all of my savings and will most likely not be able to afford one upon release.

Now that all the ports are apparently REALLY narrow USB-C, I'm wondering how for the they will take 'thin' this time
Considering the side is about as thick as the macbook largest point at the back i don't even think a standard usb will fit in that location anymore. Maybe they'll put one around the back for us.

The chassis leak was for a 13", not 15.

The leaked chassis from a couple months ago was for the 13". We actually haven't seen any leaks for the 15".

Wow I didn't even know, that means the 13 and the 15 will get OLED. Coolz...

I read a post that said "Will the 13" get the OLED Bar", so thru me a curve...

Dude as I read 1 page another page gets added, I am going to the last page and I am out of here
I don't want to hear any BS of didn't you read the latest posts?

Are freaking kidding me? This is like trying to read all of twitter!

I think we should all go back and "like" @adildacoolset's original post. I just did. Would be cool to have that first post with a few hundred likes. And if he ever logs back in again, won't he get a surprise?
I gave him a like. Let's wait and see now.

Guys! Watch this. This vid is Timmy on Oct 27

I hated it!

I never wanna hear 'Apple doesn't care about Mac, it's phasing it out' again.. straight from Mark the Messiah Gurman
"While Apple mainly relies on sales of the iPhone, the Mac line remains a key component of the business. Macs made up more than 10 percent of 2015 revenue, the second-largest source of sales. In the most-recent quarter, Mac revenue continued to outpace iPad sales, showing resiliency in a category that some analysts have said would be cannibalized by tablets."

Also it looks like Adobe could be one of the third parties you would hope to take advantage of the OLED Bar "Apple is already working with select developers to optimize third-party applications for the feature, another person familiar with the matter said."

Best post on this thread in all 1210 pages.

Yes, even more than the recent conformation of the 27th EVENT!

that sounds sad to me for some reason. it like a trip that started out with one brave person hitchhiking throughout Europe. as he kept going more and more people joined him. now he has thousands of followers all walking with him and making unforgettable memories along the way. this "migrating to other threads" is the same as all those people arriving at a airport and saying goodbye to each other as they all depart to various destinations.
it sounds like one of those movies that everyone calls "stereotypical and cliche", but tugs at my heart strings.

Guys, Imagine is we would see this Thursday after next (Oct. 27, 2016)? No ports only wireless charging. Wireless everything including hard drives. I know my photo shop skills are horrible.

Guys, do you think this is what we will see Thursday after next (Oct. 27, 2016)? No ports only wireless charging. Wireless everything including hard drives. I know my photo shop skills are horrible.

No. You'll probably see USB-C ports & a thunderbolt (or whatever it's called, forgot) 3 port.

Besides, if you see any wireless charging, it'll be the iPhone first probably.

Read on Recode that the 27th Oct event is confirmed. So this is really happening? I haven't been this excited for an Apple product for a very long time :D

Bro, you are WAAAY behind the times. You missed, like, at least 10 pages of people freaking out about it :). Yes, it is really happening. We're about 95% certain this is completely real. We're expecting the invite tomorrow or the day after.

I don't see removing all ports any time this decade or the next. I see 4 thunderbolt 3 ports and that will be it.

I seen several people complaining about only having TB3 but that port configuration is the new standard. In 5 years that is what everyone will be selling for new devices. People had the same issue with DB-25 and other legacy ports but now you wouldn't use them even if you had them.

The MagSafe connector was and is spectacular for what it was needed to be but USB 3.1 can charge the computer and you no longer need an extra port for it.

The SD card slot, several different forums have people complaining over its loss. Cam arras are increasing in memory size with ever model and if you shoot RAW format wouldnt you want a USB 3.1 card reader to transfer faster?

I have several different devices that use different ports. USB, FireWire 400, FireWire 800, and thunderbolt 1, what would I do? Buy a hub and run everything I need and use through it. Overtime I will replace and upgrade and those upgrades will be able to plug directly into my new Mac.

Regardless of what you use now, you won't use it forever the 3tb usb3 hard drive will be replace with a 6tb USB3.1.

OMGGGgggggggggggggggg. I hope Apple provides a Lightning to USB-C cable. How can you iPhone or iPad or anything with this new MBP!??!

Oh man 2015 :D I'm interested to see how far solid state storage will have increased in terms of speed and size by then. The other interesting fact will be what Apple does with OSX and iOS if they will start merging the two operating systems even more. I'd also like to see Skylake pushing Macbook Pros to 15+ hours of battery life but we will have to wait and see. These are some exciting times.

I plan on using my 2012 Retina Macbook till at least 2016. I tend to keep my computers between 4-5 years.

Yeah we're at 60 TB SSDs now. Not much improvement on Apples part though. They still charge you hefty fee for 256G SSDs.

Nope not much merging either, other than Siri and that Jony Ive design. Which is good I guess.

15+ hours....pfff...hope for atleast 12, and even thats stretching it.

4-5 years is a good time.

And new Macs will drop on Oct 27, 2016 - tell everyone who plans to wait. Dont waist your time waiting for it in 2015 alright. Do something productive in 2015.

Hope I helped. :)

Peace out, from the future! ;)
