Niche? It's one of the most popular computers in the world, bringing in billions of dollars. We're not talking about Dr. Who laser disc collections here.
Totally agreed. I work on cinema and advertisement, and most people arround me uses Macbooks for work (not only video editor, EVERYONE.)

I have a feeling they won't do gold, but that's my first choice, followed by space gray. If only silver is available, I'd be really sad.

Each of us are going to have different opinion, but this is mine:

Space Gray (I think they'd go with Matte Black this time though) looks sleek and professional. Classy. If nothing changes, this will be the most popular color (like it is with Space Gray rMB and Matte Black iPhone 7).

Silver will look just as good, it is classic Apple MBP color. You can't do wrong here. That mix of silver and black is very beautiful imo. However, if you want to stand out from other (older) Macs, don't pick this color. Pick something else and ppl will automatically know you have a new shiny Mac :D.

Gold looks extremely good on the rMB (when left at home), but it's not my cup of tea to be honest. It stands out too much. Imagine you walk into the office with a gold laptop...

I hope they move to 16GB minimum on all machines (8GB looks puny these days) with sensibly priced upgrade to 32GB, maybe even 64Gb (or points in between).

Agreed: keyboard is critical.

Expecting a significant price hike in UK.

I'm going to be looking at the prices here (UK) and in the US, always fancied one of those wee 3 day shopping trip to the US.

I might have enough air miles to make it cheaper to 'pop' across to Delaware (tax free state I believe) and pick up the MBP there.

Just need to figure out how to 'Ship to Store' in the US with UK specs....

Maybe they'll follow the iPhone 7 color scheme to differentiate the MBP from the rMB family; so they include matt black (jet black i have a doubt) and thus no space grey which looks a lot like the actual color of MBP.

So what you're saying is inb4 people are going to keep waiting in hopes of a 32gb config if it isn't a thing at launch.

No, Apple will make it clear what options are available for the line but not all options may be available at launch. Then again everything could be configurable. I was just making an observation on what happened last time.

Will Best Buy have any stocks of these? I have $300 in rewards I was planning on using

Probably Not immediately.

What would the point be of differentiation? If they swap space grey for matte (and I hope they do) I expect the next rMB would follow.

If I have to choose between space grey and silver--that'll be a tougher choice. Silver is classic, and while space grey looks nice, I feel like if I get it I'll just wish it was matte black.

Jet black has no chance because of the difficulty of the process. It's too big.

Maybe they'll introduce the same Color options as on the iPhone (except jetblack), but maybe gold and roségold stay exclusive for the MacBook (without pro). They're more fashion and would look great on the Pro for shure. But who spends 2-3k for a gold/roségold piece of hardware and is planning to use it for three or more years? I mean, who knows, what's hot in three years.

I'll go for matte black, because it fits my 7 Plus and looks so stunning. Just image all those people, thinking you use a Dell because it's black and has no glowing Apple. Pure understatement. :D

I live 2.5 hours from an official Apple store. Is it worth the trip or should I buy online? What are the advantages of buying at an Apple store?

You get a firm handshake at the end of the transaction, maybe even run and grab a pretzel from one of those pretzel joints that every mall seems to have.
All right. Thank you for this conviction. I'll step on the train the 28th.

Main advantage would be seeing a new color with your own eyes before choosing (or matte/glossy screen options, etc). If the store has your spec in stock then you could get your MBP a little sooner too. 5 hours is a pretty long trip though. If I were you I'd order online and enjoy life.

Buy online, cause as you are purchasing it directly from the manufacturer, you should have no problem with repairs, and warranties. I hate going to the Apple Store and hearing all that greatest technology praise from the uninformed salespersons.

But if you want these bags, then you gonna need to haul yourself to dem stores:

So which is a better idea:

1)Purchasing online, with pick-up in-store option, then going there at the designated time

or

2)Just walking in and doing the transaction there

Do they actually physically reserve a MBP for you if you choose option 1?

I would like to know that too. Is it equivalent to the "reserve for pickup"-option as known from the iPhone?

Yep, similar in Sweden unfortunately. Base 15" (student) requires the small investment of 2050€ with current exchange rates.

Btw, first time poster here, been lurking around since just after the March event when I found this thread through a swedish forum over at sweclockers.com. One of the posters mentioned the lynch atmosphere over here in this thread after the watch bands etc. I imagined something like this

Lynch-mob.jpg

and I was not disappointed.

Cheers and congrats everyone!
