all about courage to not have an esc key
Ehh, I can deal with not having the key. I'm sure there's a way to do it. It may involve me spending a few hours figuring out how keyboard input in the OS works in an asinine amount of depth and writing some code, but I'm sure it's doable. Who knows, maybe if they're eliminating the key they'll add it in the list of re-mappable keys. One can (but probably shouldn't) hope...

That sucks, I hope BB lets us preorder it at least, I'm getting my old laptop replaced by BB so it's my only option

I'm with you on Best Buy.

Financially Best Buy is my best option as well with my card I can get 18 months no interest. I'm not to concern about availability but having the option for a maxed out MacBook Pro since I keep them a long time.

I'm so looking forward to retire my Late 2008 BTO again

The MBP that will be an one click buy for me:

15 inch (hope for 4K option)
512GB SSD
16GB (make 32GB really that difference?)
4 USB-C/Thunderbolt 3 ports
SD Card slot (I'm a photographer, will need this badly)
GPU, I hope the iGPU will be okay, if not I will go for the dGPU option (knowing Apple, it will be the last choice)

between €2600~2800

I've been thinking about how I would be using the OLED bar, and i thought of something. You know how the OLED bar will change based on the application you're in? Like, for Spotify, it could show fast forward, skip, volume, album pic maybe, etc. For Pages/Word, it could show stuff like your clipboard, font sizes, other creative stuff, idk. If you're on the desktop view, it would presumably show a normal row of function keys.

What if you're in an app like Word/Pages, and the OLED is completely filled with stuff about Word. Suddenly, the place you're in has the lights go out, so you want to turn down your brightness. But wait! The OLED has all the function row stuff for Word already on it. Does it still have a spot for a brightness slider/button? What about a volume slider/button? Will basic yet necessary functions like that always be accessible, or do you think we would have to click "away" from the application we're in (like, click on the desktop view and then macOS detects you're not working in that application anymore) so that the traditional function row comes up again?

Sorry if that was confusing, let me know if i should rephrase it.
Apple has built their reputation re:touch screens and trackpads in part due to great integrated gestures. I'm assuming you could always swipe up with two fingers to access the default options or something like that.
Would be great if they integrated the iPhone 7's haptic engine as well, you could "feel" left-right scrolls or cranks in custom apps sliders and such.

You should start plucking up some courage now ;)

Compared to LCD which lights the whole display using a backlight OLED displays have a light source in each sub-pixel which means that black pixels are completely turned of. This results in very deep blacks and "infinite" contrast.

Cost would be a reason but OLED displays in the 15" size are not nearly as expensive as the large TV:s that LG is producing. The cost has come down tremendously during the past years.

Then we have color accuracy, maximum brightness, etc. Which in case of the smartphone displays have caught up to (at least last year's) LCD displays, and in the case of brightness surpassed LCD displays. (1000 nits on Apple Watch 2 and new HDR TVs).

But, OLED pixels tend to degrade in light intensity the more they are used. This happens to the blue sub-pixels more than others which could lead to color differences in the display. If you have a blue icon in the dock, the sub-pixels there will loose their light intensity and it can "burn-in" to the display. So it is basically not recommended to have static elements always show up at the same place. This happens even in the newer phone displays, like the (exploding) Note 7 that has an always on display where everything on the screen is moving around slightly just to avoid any display damage.

It's gonna be interesting to see how Apple avoids pixel degradation and burn-in in the OLED touch bar.
The Anandtech review of the Lenovo Yoga X1 has a good comparison between the LCD and OLED version. The battery life of the OLED version is just terrible compared to the LCD one in their testing.

If it's only USB-C's I'll probably add a USB-C to USB-A dongle, a USB-C to HDMI, USB-C to SD Card and USB-C to Ethernet. I won't buy them all at the same time tho. I'm alreaddy counting the pennies for the Mac itself. Im preparing for prices to go up.

I don't trust MBPs+dGPUs since the Nvidia GeForce 8600 GT GPU in my early 2008 MBP failed. It would turn on, the hard drive would spin, but nothing would show on screen. Eventually, it got to the point that it would boot up, HDD would spin for a bit, and then it would just die with a whimper sound. Brought it to 3 different Apple stores...coverage denied by all of them and they told me it would cost $800 CAD to replace the logic board. Then it happened again with the 2011 MBP and AMD card. Complete ******** if you ask me.

As you can see, I'm still bitter.

How many of you live in boston? I just went to turn in my rMBP and met two other guys doing the same. Now, that I come home I realize I could have waited till the last day of the 14 day return policy.

Wow did you just buy your 15"? A lot of people jumped from this thread over the past month or two and bought 2015 rMBP.

finally! glad this is happening soon. I got my apple gift card of $290 today also to use towards my MacBook Pro! waiting for the other $275 one for my iPhone 6s trade in. Hope I get it in time for ordering on Thursday!

I'm hopeful there will be a USB-A port and SD slot still. The case leak from June could have just been an incomplete prototype and things may have changed in these last several months we've been waiting. I do think MagSafe is gone, though, and perhaps Apple has some interesting USB-C innovation to roughly emulate the same functionality.

Honestly there is no chance of a USB A port. What would be the point? You either move on or you don't. I think the card slot is gone also.

I doubt they'd keep a legacy port just for the sake of it. Seeing as USB C is backwards compatible it would be a waste of a port to have a USB A one on there. Also this would probably make manufacturers produce a lot more USB C devices so won't be an issue soon, and long term you wouldn't want a wasteful type A port on there.

Magsafe wise who knows, I think they removed it from the rMB as it would likely not work with a device so small and light. I'm skeptical about the charging capacity of USB C for the MBP, it would probably still need a separate power brick and wouldn't be chargeable with any old charger like the rMB. Which seems silly. However, they could remove it for the simplicity of having an extra port when you're not charging. Although I doubt there would be 4 USB ports on the device, with all the USB C docks and stuff it seems pointless and unnecessary to have so many ports...

could you describe your daily usage of the macbook? I am currently debating on whether to upgrade from the standard 8gb of ram to 16gb. Im probably going to keep this computer for atleast 5 years but im still unsure if 16gb is worth it. I dont do any vms or photo editing. I do some 4k iphone video editing but thats about it. I do tend to have multiple windows of safari open in multiple spaces, with itunes/word/handbrake/skype all running in the background. What do you think? save $180 or upgrade to 16gb since im keeping it for 5+ years?

I would max out the ram and make it last. I wish my 09 had more the last painful 18 months of waiting. Might be better resale if you upgrade earlier
