Well, you case is different, it's second hand and cheap, but the guy I quoted just bought rMBP at full price, for that cost you' be able to get the new one in a week.

About the 1st gen thing... You (all of you) think there will be hardware problems? I'm gonna get it cause I need a new machine (I have an old Asus 4gb RAM, only works when connected and it's extremely sloooow. For heavy stuff I have the desktop PC, but I need a a laptop for mobility, so I can't wait any longer, and don't wanna spend money in some outdated machine right now.

Well, first gen rMBP had lag issues. Especially when using expose, mission control, etc. And it lasted for a couple of years (until Metal).

rMB has issues with keyboards. Keys get stuck easily.
And Apple is probably gonna use the same keyboard design for rMBP. I love the butterfly keyboard, got used to it in a day or so, and typing way faster on it then on this rMBP. Simply awesome keyboard if you give it a decent chance.

But the quality is so bad that it isn't worth to put it on a 200$ machine, let alone 1200$ machine.
The 2016 rMB didn't fix the issues, the keyboard problem is still there.

I am gonna especially watch out for keyboard in the next 12 months. If there are still issues, I will hold on to my 'old' rMBP for quite some time. If apple manages to fix the issues, well... ;)

One more question for the student discount: The verification is via Unidays here. When are they asking for it as everyone can access the education store? I realized that it's possible to login on Unidays first and then access the Apple store from their page but I'm scared that this page won't be updated directly when the shop goes online. Does anyone have experience with what's the fastest way?
So is there any waiting time to be a verified student for purchasing online or is it instant by just providing a .edu email? If so can I sign up early? Also what are the typical US discounts for students on the RMBPs?

Education discounts are for STUDENTS and TEACHERS

Apple would be very stupid to not showcase Pros at WWDC, if they want developers to quickly implement the Touch Bar (Magic Toolbar is what I think it will be called) into their apps. WWDC means hordes of programmers, and if they were to present this laptop there, and release its SDK...we could see implementation by late July - thats when they can sell the 14" (if a staggered release is what they're going for).

Not trying to brag...but I called this Magic Toolbar a longtime back.

;)

My brain hurts: trying to find the best usb-c adapters and docks. Don't want to use HDMi but Displayport. And I am pretty sure Apple will release some new... for four times the price.

The issues wth the Surface Pro and Surface Book have long been resolved, as an owner of a surface book, i can state that I've not run into any stability, or heat issues.

If not skylake what then? I think the hue and cry over a broadwell chipset would be massive

So you do think that it would be a inclusion of Skylake chip and not just the outer body or cosmetic changes to the 15" rMBP ? Like they did last time ?

I fully expect apple to finally embrace the skylake chipset, of course the timing is rather poor, in that Apple's competitors are marketing their computers using kaby lake.

Now I may be off by a long shot and most folks could be right that Apples invite logo represents the 4 colours or there's a P3 display (which I think is a given). But this is my theory. The Apple fades into complete darkness, a perfect black - and this contrast can only be achieved on a full OLED display, which is what I think Apple is hinting at. Cmon people Apple has to move to OLED, and by 2020 it'll be too late (if there even is another revision). I think they have a few surprises under their sleeves, and OLED touchbars and Touch ID are very minor...otherwise they wouldn't use such an iconic invite slogan "hello again" - that changed the PC industry.

I could be completely wrong, but this is just my $0.02 on all the speculation. :)

A moment of silence for those who ended up purchasing a month ago, unable to return, and have to act like they are fully happy with their purchase and have no regrets.

lol. Yes. If you got the 2015 and you're happy with it, thats fine and dandy. No need to trash the 2016 like "oh first gen blows up" "rev 2 rev 2 rev 2 rev 2". The 2015s are fine machines, I had a MBA and MBP 13 in my hands. Thats a massive upgrade of my current rig, I can only get half speed USB 3 and it disconnects every time I put my rig to sleep. But I brought both back, unopened because I knew the 2016s would drop soon. Some of us are moving from 2007-2010 machines, suffering in silence. It doesn't matter if there is a small bug or two, the 2016 will redefine the computing experience for us. They're almost here, so its time to party.

Of course the second version is going to be better but unless someone has a crystal ball tells us when rev 2 will drop, the 2016 rMBP will be in the mix for quite some time. I'm not waiting another 2+ years.

You just log in through unidays, quite simple http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/browse/home/education_routing/find_your_institution/access alternatively just go into a Apple Store and show them your ID.
Unfortunately, the Apple Store doesn't provide complementary 3 year warranty (without Applecare) like you can get online.

(source: Spoke to Apple Customer Services, after finding out my Macbook I purchased in store only was covered for 1 year warranty with student discount, so ended up returning it. My purchase via the online store without Applecare came with 3 year warranty with student discount).

True but the question wasn't about warranty. It's still heavily discounted in store though if you must have it.

"Apple also no longer includes three years of complimentaryAppleCare with Macs, with one year of phone support, and instead offers students 50 percent off the protection plan. AppleCare for the MacBook, MacBook Air, and 13-inch MacBook Pro, for example, is now £99.63 for students and £199 otherwise"

Familiar? It should be, from lg oled tunnel demo in 4K..
If macbook pro turns out using the whole oled screen but crazy expensive price, are you guys still interested?

Quite honestly, almost the only way this macbook pro is going to make it an instant buy for me is if the whole screen was OLED. Anything under $3000 is justifiable for me as if it's got that full OLED display. Everything other "rumor" for the new MBP discussed just just an evolution of what we've already got. Nothing is revolutionary. An OLED display would be revolutionary.

We're gonna party like it's $1999.

Fix that for you :D
