Oh my, I didn't even think of that. There's no reason it shouldn't work since all you're doing is connecting TB1 to TB3. We would need an adapter to bridge the different shapes in the port, of course.

I would think TB3 and the 3.5mm jack remain on the pros. What's the point of having 3 different laptop lines with no ports.

Will you buy the black, silver, gold or pink macbook pro?

For it come in black like the new iPhone 7. my only two options are gold and silver. I think a straight up pure black is too much for me. so probably gold.

I hope we don't get any big leaks before the event. The more we don't know, the bigger the surprise will be.

damn that's so true. I'm debating now not reading this thread anymore till the event.

That moment when Tim Cook said the iPhone SE event was most likely the last time an event would take place at Apple Town Hall..

I agree. Every one of my friends got used to (and prefer) the Butterfly keys after a week. So many people who talk bad of it are people who touched it for 3 minutes at an Apple Store or Best Buy/etc. Of course I'm not discounting the fact that many do genuinely dislike it. It's however reasonable to give it a week/2 weeks to genuinely decide.
I am one of those who have only tried it in store and I love it. Got used to it immediately and didn't see what the fuss was about. Maybe over prolonged use it's an issue for some.

Does anyone else think the treatment of the apple logo on the invite simply suggests it's happening close to Halloween? First thing I thought of, nothing to do with 'colours of machines' or a 'wider palette' or any of that nonsense.

It does have to do with Halloween, but there is always more to it!

Yeah, but doesn't the USB-C shape of port carry both TB3 and USB? As in, they'll have TB3, but it will look a USB-C port. Did I get that wrong? (Not @WRONG, just "wrong".)

You're right, TB3 uses the USB-C connector.

We know that they will be all USB-C (based on the port leak) but we don't know if they'll all be TB3. Atleast two will. If they can allocate enough PCIe lanes to another alpine ridge controller than we'll get 4x but I don't think there are any 4x TB3 laptops out today.

Just warning everyone now, not to buy the 15" with the dGPU. I'm going to buy one for myself and I also have a 2007 MBP with the nvidia 8600M and a 2011 MBP with the AMD 6750M, both of which had quality issues. So if my track record is anything to go by, the dGPU's in the new MBP will have issues too. Sorry guys.

The title of the product says Windows only lol.

Well yeah, every product says that since there is no TB3 mac to test on; probably there to prevent mac users from buying it to connect TB2 macs to TB3 devices (which won't work). I'm sure we will know about compatibility once it's released.

Obviously once we are done in this thread, we will move to a new one called "hello again".

I hope they don't somehow put Kaby Lake in the new machines, the Waiting For Kaby Lake thread would end up being rather short.

I hope they don't bump the price that much... $2300 is my limit for the base 15 inch

The base retina included a dGPU which bumped up the price. Unless we get AMD chips on every 15" I think we'll stay within the $2000-$2100 range.

Hoping they release a new TB display so I can finally get the one port for devices/charging. I'll be buying that for my home and will try to get an upgrade at work.

Gonna throw my overanalytical 2 cents in regarding the invite logo. The colors are presented with a smokey look. And where there's smoke, there's usually fire. Perhaps apple has come up with a revolutionary cooling system that will keep macs cool without that loud fan whine? What do you think?

I think you're reading too much into it. The invite images are created by people who have next to no technical knowledge of the new products.

It's not nonsense!

$2,000 is my spending limit for the 15" with AppleCare. I think this will be possible after tax with student discounts and $100 off with my new Amex, which means the 15" can cost up to $2,200 for that to be feasible. I was originally going to do a 13", but after landing a summer internship that's my reward lol.

Definitely going to do classic silver, never had a Mac before and want to experience that classic feel.

Unfortunately, the Apple Store doesn't provide complementary 3 year warranty (without Applecare) like you can get online.

(source: Spoke to Apple Customer Services, after finding out my Macbook I purchased in store only was covered for 1 year warranty with student discount, so ended up returning it. My purchase via the online store without Applecare came with 3 year warranty with student discount).

Quick question about this: When you go this website https://checkcoverage.apple.com/ does it actually say that your warranty ends in 2019 or it is only going to work with the receipt?

Check for any corporate discounts as well. In my case, corporate discount makes the base rMBP 15" cheaper at $1879.

The current 15" base does not include a dGPU, and I think they'll continue to offer a model without a dGPU for $2k.

Right, sorry I should've specified the 2012 model.

How do you check for corporate discounts? Does your company have to have a deal with Apple for that? I own my own business is why I'm asking.
