I can't even imagine the difference between my current 13 inch mid 2010 and a new 15 inch with Skylake. I'm so ****ing hyped

I'm coming from the same machine but torn between a maxed processor 13" for portability or a 15" for that power. Guess I'll have to wait and see what prices go to and if they shrink the footprints at all.

It's actually not an option, in messaging apps you use what everybody uses. I can get iMessage but I won't be able to talk with anybody.

IMessage only works with wifi?? Then is absolutly not a good option for me.

that's not what the dude said. You can use imessage anytime, anywhere you have an internet connection. If you want to text Android users or anyone that doesnt use imessage from your Mac, then you have to be on the same connection as your phone. Otherwise, you can do imessage-imessage texting anywhere you have internet access on your mac. and regular texting anywhere on your phone

It's hilarious that people will rip Google devices not realizing that some iCloud services are running on Google and Amazon servers. If you don't understand how encryption works then don't bring it up.

You must be new here. Lots of posts with unsubstantiated drivel when it comes to Google here.
Maybe you should inform yourself too.

Concerning privacy iCloud -> https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT202303 And yes it's encrypted on the servers.

Do I really need to point links out concerning what Google stores on you, and that WhatsApp privacy policy has changed so Facebook will use all your messages to make a better profile of you for targeting?

And if you are so long on this forum, maybe you could notice that I am here since early 2008.

personally I feel that upgrading the processor is money wasted. I'd rather upgrade ssd or ram. I had to choose between the 15in and 13in for college. I picked the 15in because refurb was the same price as a 256gb 13in (~$1500). now I am going for the 13in.

sure the processor in the 15in is quad core and much more powerful but even though I'm a big guy, I didn't like the size of the 15. often I was cramped in lectures trying to write notes. in addition with textbooks, the weight of the laptop did not help my back and often I was debating bringing my laptop or a notepad (if I had a lot of textbooks with me). this was not only in class but on planes too.

even if both laptops were the same price I would still get the 13in for the portability alone. but that's just my opinion. you might never take your 15in MBP off of the desk.

I just can't get by the fact that Google Drive has this activity stream that can not be deleted. Everything you ever did you can found in there, file names you "deleted" will be forever visible.

So I bought a rMB about a week and a half ago because I really needed a laptop to school and something to ease the waiting process. (Got a lot of **** from some of y'all cause it was a ***** move, even I agree myself haha)
It turned out to be disastrous though as I was even more stressed than without a laptop because I was scared I was going to drop it or break it and void the return (I am very accident prone.) but with the event confirmed I made the journey back to the Apple Store to return it... While repackaging for return I was super careful to clean the keyboard, screen and the laptop itself of all fingerprint, grease and I saved all the plastic and everything...but they didn't even bother checking the laptop and just took it back lol.

But I got my gift card(s) and ready for the laptop to come out!!!

Im pretty sure this has been asked quite a bit, but here it goes. Im not too concerned about the difference between 6th and 7th generation CPUs, however I thought I read that the iGPUs between these generations are actually quite signficantly different? I will be using the Pro as effectively a desktop, and it will be hooked up to potentially two monitors with decent resolution, will the iGPU generation difference be important?

just curious but how was your experience with the 12in MacBook? did you notice that it was slow at all? I know the new MacBook Pro is coming out and will have a much more powerful processor but could the 12in still work for you?

ok I see it. are you sure that after a file is deleted it doesn't show up as like "James edited 'deleted file'"?

It says for example:

"You permanently deleted 3 items", and then shows you the names of the deleted items, in strikethrough text.

Most don't seem to mind, or don't know this exists, but I loathe such a feature.

Not the person you quoted but I know someone who edited a 5 minute insert for the BBC on nothing but a rMB and a pair of B&W P5 headphones in a corner of an edit suite. It handled that fine, even editing in full 1080p without proxy media. Of course, a longer project may be a step too far, but these aren't incapable machines.

I'd buy one if connectivity was just a little bit better - the size, weight and design of the rMB, though, are amazing. Hopefully Jony'll bring some of the design language over - I'm looking forward to going from a 15" 2011 to a 13" Pro in the next few weeks...

With all due respect, you clearly don't understand the encryption methods used.

Both imessage and whatsapp use end to end encryption. This is a public/private key pairing system in which both Apple and whatsapp store the public key.

With only the public key neither company can intercept or decypher anyone's messages. For that you need your own private key which is kept only on your phone.

Both messaging apps are equally as secure in regards to snooping/privacy be it from Apple/Facebook or the NSA etc.

Ya.. As long as there isn't any major damage, it will just go into reprocessing/refurb. they are usually pretty lenient on returns as long as there is no real damage.

In my case Applecare wouldn't have mattered. Apple extended the warranty for all early 2008 MBPs with the dGPU issue, with or without Applecare, because it knew about and admitted to the problem (eventually). In my case though, the "Geniuses" denied that my issues qualified under the extended warranty...basically they said it was something else on the logic board other than the dGPU that was failing. I don't know how they could make that determination when my issues were clearly graphics related; everything but the video would boot up fine.

I had the same issue. The reason the gave as to why my Early 2008 MBP didn't fall under the extended warranty was because I had the BTO model with the 2.6GHz CPU. I ended up paying $300 for the flat repair.

This is the second point - when did anyone not send that text when the box went green (indicating standard SMS that anyone sniffing packets can read) instead of the iMessage blue? I couldn't care less if someone knows what my wife is cooking for tea ;)

tbh i agree with you. whatever I message, search, post are things that if they were released to the public for e.g., i wouldn't be embarrassed or criminally charged. i dont take nude pics, or message heist plans, or search child pornography, so im not too worried about encryption and snooping.

although i will say that snooping isnt ethical.

yeah the one port is sorta of a inconvience. I often plug in around 2usb and I might also want to charge as well.

I really hate the way Apple have set up the models/prices. Hopefully it's a little different this time around, but just looking at the current specs/price points for example... (all in Australian dollars)

I'd rather a 15 inch, but my only two options for 15 inch is 256GB (not enough) or 512GB (doable, but $3,799 - I have $4,000 set aside but I'd rather not spend all of it if it can be avoided lol). So if I accept that I'll need to get a 13 inch, the only 512GB option I have is $2,799, but I'm sacrificing the specs of the 15 (i7 down to i5, 16GB down to 8GB). So it's either spend $1,000 more or have worse specs OR just not have enough space for anything.

I guess I could go the 256GB 15 inch ($3,099) and then just change the storage to 512GB (+$480, totalling $3,579 instead of $3,799). But that also then delays the delivery time. First world problems.

Here's hoping they have a better selection this time around lol. Anyway, thinking out loud over.
