If the Air is refreshed, how many of you guys (who were most likely going to get the base iGPU rMBP15/13" rMBP), will be swayed?

Let's say it had IPS Retina, touch ID, but no OLED Magic bar. Would it be on the cards? Or is the 15w CPU/GPU combo just no dice.

I might be if it gets a retina display and a redesign. I've got an iMac for any heavy lifting. Honestly I think its getting Skylake/Thunderbolt 3/USB C and thats it.

Would rather take even bezels and a top mounted camera then that fugly chin and basically useless camera.
I have own the rMBP 15 while I have also been using the dell xps 15 recently. Let me tell you, a look at the screen and you forget about the chin and the retina bs apple sells you. The camera though not centered is not useless any means and much better in quality than the one on my MBP. The dell xps as a product is much ahead of the current MBs. Hoping, come 27th Apple will up their game as well.

Currently own a 13 Retina and thinking to get more involved with coding using Xcode. Is there a huge benefit of having the 15"? I understand that screen real estate is king but 2" - is that really noticeable?

Love the 13" footprint.

If you are serious about coding you'll code on a damn Macbook. Getting a 15" won't suddenly make you a better programmer.

I have a i7-7500 on another laptop, it's kind of weak, the i5 in the rMBP 13" is faster (comparing runs of a software test suite).

u know i7 7500 and 13 inch rmbp chips are both dual core?

Looking back at the keynote for the Air when Jobs introduced it years back, its primary focus was to be the world's thinnest notebook. At that point, you had:

MacBook - Consumer
MacBook Air - World's Thinnest Notebook
MacBook Pro - Professional

At this point, the MacBook is now serving the purpose of the thinnest notebook that they offer. I am guessing it will be.

MacBook 12" - Thin/Light Use
?
MacBook Pro 13", 15" - Professional

It is clear to me that there does need to be a third category to fit consumer products, i.e. lowest cost. It was a really big deal and something that Jobs talked a lot about in the keynote to bring the pro level features of the MBP ($1,999) at the time to a consumer level computer in the MB ($1,299) and that was emphasized heavily. When the original Air was released, it was $1,799!!! so it is actually quite similar to the current rMB in terms of its DNA. It is seeming like it was named wrong, though, and really should be the new Air.

It really does seem to me that the MacBook should in fact be called the MacBook Air. with a third computer called MacBook introduced for consumer/education, etc. So it will be interesting to see what they do. Man I am looking forward to this event.

Well I finally had another Mac dream; been a while since the last one. This one consisted of me attending the event, only it wasn't a big public event, it was a small presentation inside an Apple Store given to only a select few elite (including me of course). Before the presentation even began I caught a glimpse of the three new models: two ultra-thin "Z" models, the 13Z and 15Z, and then a thicker 15 model. All three were available in jet black or space gray, though I didn't see an OLED bar on any of them :( Woke up before I could see more of the presentation.

No need to do it right the first time, if that's even possible. Pop the box open, observe the new unit and use it to your hearts content. As you discover the needs a quick google search or pop a question on this forum someone will help you out.

No use suggesting a bunch of apps or processes that you may not need. Just try to use what's baked in and expand from there. I mean, I like these apps and recommend to anyone:

BusyCal
DiskWarrior
Omnifocus
Office Suite
Creative Suite
TextMate
PathFinder
LittleSnitch
Moom
VMWare Fusion
Symantec Whole Disk Encryption
Devonthink Pro

But that list of stuff is probably meaningless to you cause everyone's workflow is different. Well ok Little Snitch might be "mandatory" cause so many devs trying to ship "things" back to home base. Nope. "denied".

It's (LS) not only for shipping back, I get over a hundred VNC attacks and SSH attacks per day on my server...

This could be the most accurate prediction posted in the thread so far. ;)

I know huh? Like Friday they are like ENOUGH!!! CLOSED!!!
But really, what's the problem with the dGPU? It just seems weird that has so manny problems like people say and they dont solve them. Also there is a problem, in Apple's website if I pick the dGPU MBP it costs 2799€, but if I pick the iGPU MBP and chose the same specs of the other one (512GB RAM and 2,5GHZ CPU) it costs 2729€. So I'm paying almost the same but don't get dGPU?? Makes no sense.

If it's the same price than yeah get a dGPU but as far as I knew it's like $500 (if it's $150or less then yes go for it!)

YES 15 MANDATORY! Why? Interface builder. Although: You could use a utility like ResolutionTab, to switch on the fly from Retina to Non-Retina, if you want to use IB in non-retina mode to give you more real-estate, but it's tiny to read...

Not me. I want the more powerful processor.

It could be nice to have a waterproof Macbook Pro. I can think about a pro usage where you have to use your computer on filming location to process images or video and you don't want to be obsessed with little rain. Or even for the more simplistic option : you no longer have to worry about spilling water on the Macbook.

NO! We don't want any actually USEFUL features in the new laptops, just make them thinner and have less ports, that's all we ever want.

You want protection from that? Make sure you keep your software updated. Use SSH keys instead of passwords and only allow VNC connections from localhost and tunnel to VNC over your SSH connection.

If they refresh Air, I would bet good money on it being Retina. It is differentiated enough from the 12" in other ways for it not to overlap (and it would be differentiated from the new 13" rMBP by not having oled bar).

Oh I do that too, but it's just amazing, but some people have VNC turned on with NO USERNAME and just a PASSWORD, now that's living on the edge, not to mention living on the VNC roulette wheel! haha

When people are saying they'll announce, "ships today," does that mean I can go online and purchase it immediately after the announcement? For example, during the event? How exactly does the timing work?

The store will go down before the event starts and will come back online shortly after the event ends with the new models added.

Same. Honestly, I see them taking the current Air body, replacing legacy ports with USB C, adding Skylake, Retina, that new keyboard + speakers, offering it in 4 different colours, and calling it the larger MacBook variant. That way people won't feel ripped off paying for an old chassis. ;)

Perhaps not even Skylake, but the 15w Kabylake processors.
