I've got a 2012 rMBP and after about 850 cycles I'm at 70% health and can get about an hour of battery life doing mundane tasks (web browsing and email). Apple promised 80% health at 1000 cycles in 5 years, so yeah, I'm not too thrilled with my battery.

Really?? Gee, that's awful.

My '13 13" is running quite well even after 1337 cycles. The battery life has really started to tank in the past few weeks, but even at its absolute WORST we're talking 90% health and 5 hours of intense use. I normally have it at 95% and get ~7 hours.

Guess you got the short end of the stick :(

I'm going to chalk that up to a rev1 issue, but that's really the only issue I had. After I get the new laptop I plan on going to Apple to have them replace the battery and hopefully keyboard as many of the letters (mostly vowels) are worn out.

FYI, Intel doesn't have any plans to bring GT4e to Kabby Lake until late 2017 if not 2018. The roadmap shows Skylake quad core with GT4e alongside the lower iGPU Kabby Lake parts. That means we probably won't see another high end iGPU MBP/MBA until 2018.

EDIT: Airs use Intel U doesn't it. I guess they might get Kaby lake in Q1 2017 but we won't see a rMBP upgrade anytime soon.

Yes I know the Pro's won't get Kabylakes, but no reason the Air can't - and from what it looks like, an Air refresh is coming (I thought they might do :)).

Battery life could be really different from Mac to Mac depending on habits and usage, especially comparing old machines, so I think is a little bit useless to ask about everyone's battery health. We'll start comparing from the day one :D

m.2 SSDs on NVMe are supposed to be faster
NVMe is a storage controller protocol that is optimized for low-latency flash storage as opposed to AHCI.
This has nothing to do with PCIe interface as Apple is the first company to implement AHCI PCIe SSD into consumer product (MacBook Air mid-2013).
Apple has used its inhouse-designed NVMe SSD controller in the 2015 MacBook, but the SSD in that thing has lower theoretical speed than mid-2015 MBPs since it only has PCIe 2.0x4 instead of PCIe 3.0x4, only with lower latency.
In terms of m.2 connector, Apple always uses proprietary connector every year so forget about it, it's not gonna happen. :(

This is my first post here, but I’ve been following this thread since early 2014 when I spilled enough water onto my 2012 Retina MacBook Pro to kill it. I have been using my original UniBody MacBook Pro from 2008 (2.4 GHz Core 2 Duo) for the last two and a half years, just waiting for new machines to be announced. I realized that the new machine that I’ll be purchasing later this week will be my sixth Apple laptop. And not just my sixth laptop - but my sixth consecutive model from a different re-design. Here’s what I’ve had so far...

PowerBook G3 (Pismo) 2000 - 2002

PowerBook G4 (Titanium) 2002 - 2006

PowerBook G4 (Aluminum) 2006 - 2008 (first Intel based Apple laptop)

UniBody MacBook Pro 2008 - 2012 and 2014 - 2016 (first UniBody model)

Retina MacBook Pro 2012 - 2014 (first Retina model)

New MacBook Pro 2016 - ?

It’s been fun following along here but I can’t tell you how happy I am that I won’t be needing to check back here again after Thursday!

Yeah I briefly used a 21" iMac this summer and the damn thing throttled just browsing through Photos. It needs a dGPU.
Indeed, that was one factor in my choosing the 27" model, the slow 5400 rpm drive doesn't help you at all, either.

I want pics. I want leaks. I want more than Wikileaks.

I think the Russian regulation report we received today means the leaks for today are over.

However by Wednesday or thursday before the event, I expect leaked packaging for the rMBPs to be around the net.

Yeah, Wikileaks, you listening? If you REALLY wanted to perform a public service, instead of releasing e-mails from boring old politicians you could have gotten us some of Tim Cook's private conversations! I mean, who CARES about cronyism and unsavory dealings involving the Clinton foundation--I need some Mac rumors!

Exactly. But I don't. The 70% stat I got from coconut battery and istat corroborates with the 5813mAH full charge capacity (out of the original 8460mAH) that System Information is reporting. If I drop brightness down really low and turn off wifi I can squeeze out 2 hours. But at the end of the day I'm heading towards the 1k cycles within the 5 years that Apple advertises and am going to end up at 65% or less of capacity. No where near the 80% they stated.
Mine is also a 2012 rMBP. Coconut Battery is telling me 71% today (546 cycles), but I'm getting about 3 hrs of battery life in light use (Email, Web, etc.) I burn battery a little quicker than most, though, because I like to keep the display bright.

I'm not sure how much I trust Coconut Battery. Just two weeks ago, it was telling me 78%.

The battery is also telling me to get it serviced. I'm considering doing that after I get my new MBP. Or at least finding out how much it costs. This computer is going to be my backup.

To those who have experience... I'm currently on a 15" rMBP and plan to return it within the 14 day period after the Thursday keynote... I'm just wondering though, do I have to return it in the same OS version? Or can I upgrade to Sierra?
