There are a lot of people who use macbooks as a workhorse. I've got parallels running with several eclipse IDEs open, some pdfs, tons of tabs, and often all 7 slots in my usb expander have stuff plugged in doing stuff. I am almost always having all 16gb memory used with a lot of swap space used. If I could get a macbook with 64gb or 128gb ram and more cores it would make financial sense to upgrade because I rely on this machine to earn money. Getting an imac or a mac pro is out of the question because I travel a lot and often work on things that need to be connected to with a laptop away from my desk. Apple needs to stop jerking us around with these fake "pro" laptops or else we will be forced to use ugly pc laptops.

Look at what you can get in a 15" xeon thinkpad- 64gb ram, quad core 3.7GHz xeon, and 2 1-terabyte pci ssds in raid0, all for $3300. This blows away a loaded macbook pro for the same price. Apple needs to do something.

If those are your requirements then you are almost certainly going to be disappointed, honestly those Thinkpads are mobile workstations.

Granted Apple has been known to cheap out with some of the spec in the Mac line, the problem is you can't put spec like that in a laptop and keep it pretty and sleek. Those Thinkpads weigh nearly eight pounds, thats nearly twice the weight of the 15 inch Macbook Pro.

I had a dream last night, about the new Macs...

It was kinda weird, I actually do have class during the event, so I won't be able to watch it. But in my dream, I didn't watch the keynote, but I also didn't watch a replay, or go on Apple.com, or do anything at all, to see what was announced, once my class ended. The same day, I got out of class, and went to the school's library, of all places, to buy the Mac. This is still without having seen the product, or read any live blogs, or anything whatsoever about the event. I literally have no idea why I did this.

So I go to the library, ask the front desk librarian for the Mac, and she gives it to me. I don't think I even paid for it, although I'm not sure. So I get the box, and it's a huge box. It's a tank. So I open the packaging, and I take out the laptop. This is what is in my hand:

An incredibly thick and heavy HP laptop, except it has the Apple logo on it. Apparently Apple did a major redesign in my dream, and made the laptop twice as thick as it currently is!

Safe to say, I was very shocked and surprised.

Why can't we have the option of a pro machine in the size of the 13"? I hate that you need to get the 15" to get better specs or options. Yeah yeah I know space constraints and heat but if apple really wanted to I bet they could.

Simply put, Apple's aren't for you. They're never going to release a monster of a MacBook (they've moved away from that scene since they went to the retina machines and stopped making the 17"). It sucks, but Apple is more focused on the general consumer then the professional market. The Pro moniker of their laptops is more of a designation that they're more powerful then their other lines.

It's called the laws of thermodynamics. You can't fit that same thermal envelope in a 13" chassis.

You are missing the point. The Esc has more critical function than the Fn or F keys. It seems more plausible to put a Fn switch on the Touchbar than it does to put Esc there unless you can guarantee Touchbar stability. There's also an ergonomic reason why the shift buttons are longer and inserting a tilde there isn't a solution any sane typist would approve.
True. The Esc key does get more use, even under Windows. The Fn key and F keys do hold value. I suppose for non-professional who bought the MBP for longevity wouldn't mind, but it would annoy those who do require the Fn key and F keys. That said, it would create a market for a USB-C device that was macro capable. If you follow PC hardware, Logitech makes or rather made a macro keypad many years ago that still works under a modern OS. I believe it was 12 keys and you could overlay controls onto them. It was application based so that meant Logitech software had to be running, but it also meant hundreds of combinations and it could adapt to applications in the active window sphere.

sounds like I'm not going to get my apple gift card by Thursday for my MacBook Pro purchase. ugh looks like I won't be getting mine till end of November at this point probably because they will be backordered even if I purchase one next week :(
