Some want Apple to defy the laws of physics while others expect Apple to rip them off spec/price wise and are pretty calm about it.

I don't mind the asking price (well, not on the 2015s because it's been so long). Once I get this one i'll have three MBP in my stable, 2006, 2010, 2016. All working fine. All not cheap. My only beef is that Apple didn't release one sooner.

When are mac usually available for store pickup after an event ?
Also are they almost garanteed to go on backorder ?

Has there been a history with MacBook keynotes and availability? I know it can obviously go either way, but are we thinking we're looking at availability being this/next week? Or is it more of an announce now, release in a few weeks time kind of deal? Would they do pre-orders for MacBooks? Lol

You don't know what the asking price is. Maybe $1300. Maybe $1700. And for what kind of specs? 128 gb with 8 gb ram? That's the kind of casual bending over I'm talking about some people surprisingly being ok with.

Well, it's been almost 1.5 years since we had a MBP refresh. Any speculations as to what may have caused this lengthy delay? I don't recall previous redesigns of the MBP chassis taking this much time. Could Apple have been migrating to their own custom built CPUs?

And what are your predictions of what the specs might look like?

I really hope that they are announced and released on Thursday or Friday.

The delay isn't the redesign. 4 years is to be expected. The anger and frustration stems of Apple's reluctance to update the current MBPs to Skylake :)

guys it turns out that that the Apple event is at noon where I live. but I usually have class from 12-2 on Thursdays.

today I got an email from my professor saying that he canceled class on Thursday saying that he won't be feeling well on that day. I think my professor has a bigger reason for canceling class... I have a feeling that he might even be lurking in this very thread.
he's anticipating him not feeling well 3 days out haha. Must be wanting to watch the keynote is my only guess.

It's those darn skylake chips. The 6770/80/90 are no where to be seen. Even though we all think it's 'late', there truly is not one other laptop that has those procs (if the goal is to get the Iris 580) on the market. Should Apple release them Thursday, how can it be considered delayed when they got them out before anyone else.

Does anybody know if you can charge different amounts to two credit/debit cards at time of checkout on the apple app on the phone or on apples site? like 2000$ one card 800$ another

Yeah, it'd be great if they were announced Thursday and released Friday lol. I hope they up the base storage (at no additional cost) like they did for the iPhone - 128/256/512 is such a crap selection for desktop.

California, especially LA, is generally well stocked. I get most of my stuff on the first day, without pre-ordering. I'm not too worried but I might cave and pre-order. Let's see what they say on Thursday...

Hey I like that!! Hopefully they don't sell out in San Diego.

This thread is really a mixed bag. Some want Apple to defy the laws of physics while others expect Apple to rip them off spec/price wise and are pretty calm about it. I'm kind of in the middle hoping Apple puts some value in the price they charge.

I'm OK with paying the "Apple Tax" since they have a fairly good track record of producing a good product that works as its supposed to. Not to mention the piece of mind that comes with having software that is designed for the hardware. However, there is definitely a limit to how much I will pay.

The rumored base price is $1399 for the 13" with the OLED bar and $1199 for the 13" without the OLED bar. IMO that is a perfect sweet spot for a 13" laptop and I hope the rumor is true. I've stuck with this thread for a long time and I'm finally within days of watching an announcement but if Apple gets too ambitious with the price, that may de-rail the train for me.

When the first 13" retina came out it was at $1699. I wouldn't hold your breath that it'd be much lower then that. Maybe $1599, at best $1499.

a $1399 13in MacBook Pro with 256gb ssd and 16gb of ram. plus a -$100 discount as a college student would literally make me run around campus screaming for joy.

EDIT: I just read my post again and I can't believe that I'm so happy to spend so much money. it's crazy.

I'm with you on that, and am really hoping they don't go crazy with the prices. As you can see some people here aren't expecting that because of how high some of the previous models had been. Difference is they're not selling something better than what exists on the market. The retina MacBook and MacBook Air were the thinnest lightest laptops. The retina MacBook Pro had the best screen. Now the selling point is the Oled bar? I'm not sure that'll warrant the kind of price hike people are saying.

Yeah that's not going to happen. The current rMB is $1299. Like @shareef777 said, best case is $1499 for the new base rMBP.
