Thanks for the insight. Will Apple offer a dGPU option in the upcoming release? Out of curiosity:

Iris Pro 580 is ~2x more powerful than Intel HD 530.
Nvidia 1060 (for example in the new Razer Blade) is ~4-5x faster than Iris Pro 580 to put things into perspective.

Apple is likely to use AMD Polaris (400 series). Where would that fit in in that comparison?

I apologize in advance for the multi-quotes about to rain down from the heavens, but on the occasion of the 1300th page, and being on the doorstep of macnirvana, I wanted to take a stroll down memory lane, back to the heady days of March, when we were excited for the coming twin pillars of 300pages in this thread, and the announcement of new MBPs at the march "Loop You In" event! How naive we were :p

This is gold!!! How naive indeed :)

Are our Credit Card ready?
Just 2 days and the new MBPs go out and I am pretty sure that in EU they will increase the prices, in my opinion around 5-10%. It's amazing :)

According to this, mobile Polaris' performance will be within 5-10% of their desktop counter parts. Here's the relative performance of the Desktop AMD RX 460 and 480 for comparison:

If Apple goes for the high end RX 480M variant, then performance should be within 1-2% of Nvidia's 1060 mobile part (applying a 10% penalty to desktop RX 480's performance). Anything lower, then Nvidia's 1060 will have the edge.

i5 kabylake proc

How is it possible you've gotten this far through a 1300 page thread and still think "i5 Kaby Lake" is one processor? It's released at different wattages, expected to be used in machines with different thermal constraints. The machine you're talking about is a 15 watt "ultrabook" and even a Haswell 48w part would kerbstomp it in general performance.

If Apple goes for the high end RX 480M variant

They probably won't. The reason we're saying RX 460 is because those drivers have been found in OS X betas over the past months with Polaris 10 being added later in the game (or maybe not even yet fully added without mods?). So the only thing that would get the 480M or full fat RX 480 is the iMac or the rumored TB3 5k display.[/QUOTE]

Wow the two longest threads in the forum are "Waiting for [apple to upgrade processor] thread"s

RX 460M's performance will be underwhelming then compared to Nvidia's offerings. Any reason as to why Apple does not use Nvidia GPUs? I know they had recall a few years ago due to the faulty 8000's mobile variants for which Nvidia later had to settle a class-action lawsuit.

Then again who am I kidding? Nvidia GPUs will eat into Apple's margins, and we can't have that :)

It's a long discussion, the dGPU issue was a separate issue that probably helped but this is also why Apple and nVidia got beef. it was originally Intel vs nVidia but Apple got dragged into it.

So Apple refuse to use nVidia. This has left everyone in a precarious position because the tower Mac Pros should be able to use nVidia 10-series graphics cards, some people are buying GTX 1070-1080 for mac tower/hackintosh builds when really, it doesn't work at the moment and it may never work. And even if it does work Apple could very easily prevent nVidia from hooking into future OSs. It's all very petty. So now we're stuck with AMD and to be fair, AMD is probably working with Apple, good pricing, features and what not, but none of that helps the fact that they're behind nvidia at the moment.

If you want to get more insight on the matter head over the to Mac Pro forum because the tower mac guys have all sorts of GPU complaints and they love talking about nvidia and apple.

TDP too... Nvidia's 10-series laptop chips aren't really mobile versions, they're more like underclocked desktop ones. Polaris mobile chips have pretty low power draw and Apple really needs that factor otherwise the battery suffers too much.

TDP too... N

True. But, if nVidia could release a GTX 1070 that sips sunshine and requires nothing but passive cooling, would Apple use it?

All it takes is one person in the right place to be upset with nVidia and we'll never see em.

You are missing the point. The Esc has more critical function than the Fn or F keys. It seems more plausible to put a Fn switch on the Touchbar than it does to put Esc there unless you can guarantee Touchbar stability. There's also an ergonomic reason why the shift buttons are longer and inserting a tilde there isn't a solution any sane typist would approve.
I agree so with you regarding the longer left shift button (and also the longer right shift button). It¨s surely a very good and standard thing on the standard US keyboard that should not by changed. But I hope that the Esc button stays on the top left, even on a OLED touch bar. I dont think that it would be good to place the Fn on the OLED bar however.

Around page 1000 when people asked when the macbook pro will be announced, at what page do you think this thread will be??
I predicted around page 1500.
Even though that milestone will not be achieved, it feels good to see we have come so close to achieving it.:)
You guys are the best.;)

Some information I heard about these days:
Long time no post here!
Today I went to an Apple Store which is the biggest one in Asia and chat with them about the new MacBook Pro. They said that the model has arrived in the store for some days but only few are allowed to see or touch them. From the message widely spread in that store, they said that 13'' Pro has 2 USB Type-C, on the same side and the other side a 3.5earphone port. For the 15'' model it has two USBC port on both side and a headphone port. And the logo won't glow confirmed by many assistant in the store.
So that's all I got from the local store...... Hope that would help.
Still waiting with hope that I can get it on Friday in Hangzhou.o_O:(
