The butterfly keyboard is perfectly fine. People just need to get used to softer typing. I'm pretty sure you can actually type faster on the butterfly keyboard once you get used to it. The keys are bigger and there's more stability.

I tried the rMB keyboard at a store, next to a 13" Pro. Just did a quick typing speed test and although skeptical, I actually did find it better on the rMB keyboard after about 5 minutes use. What I can't say is how comfortable it is to use for long periods of time. However I'm sure it's fine.

What programmers do you know that use the top row of keys to program.... they are the keys for volume, expose, screen brightness. We use the numerical keys a lot but most programmers would have a lot more use for contextual stuff than the current keys we use almost never.

This thread is depressing. For the most part people are so negative about anything that is leaked. The leaked photo looks cracking. TouchID on the mac will be useful and the function row is going to be as good or better than what's there at the moment.

Long-time lurker. I made an account just to reply to you specifically. I am a 3D visual effects artist working on feature films (Dr. Strange and **** like that). I use very complex software (Mari, Maya, Nuke, Katana). I also write Python.

With that said, I run all these apps like I do a video game and I'm not the only one. I have hotkeys that I use hundreds of thousands of times a day mapped to function keys, including modifiers. You are not going to be able to rest your fingers on this bar with muscle memory. This OLED bar is designed for casual users only. It's a gimmick.

Unless we have build options w/o the strip I will never purchase another MBP.

If Apple was to allow access to the API for the OLED bar could developers make modifications for example being able to lock the bar to f keys

I can't tell from the pictures if the FN key is still on the keyboard but if it is, I'd imagine the OLED bar works like this:

- By Default: The OLED bar displays functions specific to the app your using.

- Press FN button once: The OLED bar changes to the usual brightness, volume, play, pause, etc. controls.

- Press FN button again: The OLED bar changes to F1-F12 buttons

I guess we'll know for sure pretty soon.

Exactly. Welcome by the way.

That's my assumption as well. Press the Fn key to 'disable' the magic toolbar and have it remain as the static function row. Hold Fn to have the brightness/volume buttons. Will be interesting to see how they implement it.

It's not fake, guys. The images were embedded in the latest Sierra update. So Apple made a fake image of the new laptop to fool people? Even though it matches all the rumors so far and the leaked chassis?

Denial is really not just a river in Africa :p

That's what it's going to look like, you're going to pay $3000 for it, and you're going to love it. End of story.

Agreed.

I too am a 3D Artist (nice to see other 3D Artist here that use Macs) though my work is more focused on Architectural Visualization, product renderings and some game art (I'm an indie game developer as a side job). I use AutoCAD, Maya, Photoshop, Keyshot (great program) and Unity 3D on a daily basis. I'd imagine most of those programs will get updated to support the OLED bar (maybe we'll eventually see 3Ds Max come to Mac)

For the programs that do not get updated, it would be nice if Apple had a way to create custom buttons on the OLED bar. For example, you could set up a custom layout for Maya that would have buttons for Extrude, Edge Connect, Render, etc. Sure, you wouldn't be able to do it by muscle memory but it's better than hunting through the UI.

Interesting leaked pictures.

How many of you are going to get the 13" inch version, what about the 15" version?

The base 15" inch version will most likely cost $3000+ CAD, that is: CPU + Integrated Graphics (limited to bare bone low res/quality gaming) + 128/256 GB SSD...

:D TAKE MY MONEY AWAY.

I hated the butterfly keyboard at first but got over it in about two minutes. If it's even in the new MBP meh, whatever.

If that's the biggest gripe you've got in this world then you lead a charmed life (myself included).

Guys remember the MacAuthority.org article saying that Matte Black is coming to the MacBook Pro, I think those pictures are all fake because the picture of the leaked (from 10.12.1 Sierra) MacBook Pro with the square touch i.d. space, they don't show that square in that picture on MacAuthority.org

I always thought 3D artists did textures only. Is a VFX specialist a 3D artist too or just a VFX specialist? You creatives and your titles. It's rather adorable.

Haha gotta love titles. What your thinking of is a Texture Artist. They make the textures that the 3D Artist puts on the models. A 3D Artist is one who uses a 3D program like Maya to model objects, scenes, characters, etc. Think of it like a digital sculpture. A VFX Artist is someone who creates special effects for movies, tv and games. There's some crossover here and there.

A real world example would be a Tie Fighter from Star Wars. The tie fighter model would be made by the 3D Artist. The texture Artist would create the color scheme and any scratches or other details on the surface. The VFX Artist would create all of the lasers and explosions.

Interesting. Thank you for the clarification. I haven't watch Star Wars since the first and second films, but I do understand your explanation.

ugh lame.. I'm still holding out for a matte black version but with this leaked design from Sierra 10.12.1

Everything is relative. I type thousands and thousands of words per day. If the keyboard sucks, then that would be very bad for me. It's not like "oh well the MBP is 10 inches and costs $20k but that's alright because I have a roof over my head." You have to compare the laptop features to the laptop, not your overall life or something.

I'd like a matte black or space grey myself. Preferring black the most. I rather liked the black polycarbonates from the 1st gen C2Ds.

I think most authors such as yourself would complain of the non-existent tactileness.

Is anyone else planning to trade in their current MacBook at the Apple store? Looks like my late 2013 13" gets me $350 off the new model. I'm sure I could get a little more selling it privately but it sure is nice to be able to swap it out as I'm getting the new one.

I'm not saying the complaints are invalid, just that the final layout could be anywhere between butterfly (not the greatest for many people) all the way up to chiclet but we don't have much to go on except a top down view, who knows what it could be.
