If Apple never changes the display technology during a MBP generation (4 years), than we will get OLED screens... It's impossible, that they go with LCD until the next gen, 2020

OK just got my first 15" rmbp. I hope the update is very late. If theres a legit rumor within return date then its gotta go but... Im excited.
I got it almost $300 off by price match!

I've also been curious to see what Apple chooses for the display. Since the MBP retina original launched, LCD tech has improved in almost every way and OLED has become cheaper to produce and is available in larger sizes. However, OLED is not perfect and if the cons outweigh the pros we may be stuck with LCD a little longer. Just to name a few:

Pros of OLED:
- Infinite blacks and deep colors
- Fast response time
- Much thinner than LCD
- More durable than LCD
- Much more efficient than LCD
- Wide viewing angle
- Allows for thinner bezels

Cons of OLED:
- More expensive to manufacture (especially with higher pixel density)
- Higher chance of image retention (burn in)
- Doesn't perform well outdoors
- Lower peak brightness than LCD (won't perform as well in bright environments such as outdoors)
- Lower life expectancy

Personally, I would be happy with LCD or OLED as long as the contrast is higher, it supports DCI-P3 color and it won't raise the price.

Uh, where do you think the iPhone were shown for the first time? Read the story I linked you. It was more luck than anything that the thing didn't crash entirely during the presentation.
Yea I've read it before, interesting story indeed. Maybe I should've explained what I meant; which is that Apple hasn't shown a prototype stating it's a prototype haha :)

To clarify, it should be noted that the first significant leak of substance on the rMBP was by Mark Gurman on 14 May 2012. The rMBP was then released on 11 June 2012. It's true that the rMB had a longer lead time of leaks, but this shows that it's at least possible for there to not be any leaks on a redesigned rMBP until less than a month in advance.

I'd definitely pull the trigger for the current 15" rmbp if there would be a good deal.
But since there aren't any good deals, I'll keep waiting for skylake.
(Btw, I live in germany)

I think the next rmbp will look like a bigger Macbook.
But I am not sure if I'll get used to the new keyboard design

My predictions for the 15 inch rMBP

- skylake Intel Core i7 processors with HD 580 iGPU
- 16 GB DDR3 RAM (optional 32 and 64 GB)
- 256-1TB SSD
- Magsafe 3
- three thunderbolt 3 ports on the left side, two on the right side and SDXC
- 16" OLED screen 3360x2100 247 ppi
- 7000 series aluminium body (the strongest Macbook ever)
- AMD Polaris dGPU options

7000 series aluminium for the next rMBP?
the sad and obvious thing for the customers if we want new CPU, GPU like Polaris or something like better aluminum or OLED - as the result we will get it for a huge price.
Apple seems to be setting standards for prices as well. :D this year they will set a new one .. ouch

Same here, in The Netherlands. Every now and then, I'm reading posts here about how there was a good deal, and then they got more discount by using this-and-that creditcard. Not so in Europe, it seems. There are hardly any deals in the first place, and there definitely isn't a creditcard that gets you discount.

There is Media Markt, which has one week every year where they give discounts equal to the VAT or something. But almost always, Apple products are excluded!

One thing FOR SURE is that the outer look will be very similar to the current one because lets face it, they wouldnt wanna take away the signature look for the cool factor.

I dont think they will get rid of the glow

I feel your pain man! I live in holland too. You're very lucky to find 50€ off.
The only you can get a deal here is if you are a student. Or Markplaats.... but I woudn't want a second hand machine :)

Hey Guys,

we should wait some days after OS X 10.11.4 beta was analysed. If there are some hints for new hardware support and Drivers, than we can be sure that we get the new macbook pro models in march. It was always the way that Apple releases a new developer version of OS X almost 2 months before a rumored keynote.

Just wait for any developers and experts to check out, if Apple has get some new stuff ready. ;-)

I don't see why they wouldn't just include the patch in shipped macbook pro's, unless of course this is a controlled leaking method.

Not a chance.

In my opinion,

Thunderbolt 3 is very likly to be included thanks to Alpine Ridge.
The OLED Screen is unlikely at the moment. Maybe in 2 - 3 Years in a bigger refresh with cannonlake.

For the AMD Polaris i dont really know if its possible because i havent read any news of production, manufacturing and so on. So we have to wait for some more weeks to get more informations in our hands.

Furthermore i dont think, that AMD Polaris has so much more performance to offer in compare to the Iris Pro 580. The focus was to increase the power per watt to a new level.. and AMD might did this with success.

You might be right about Thunderbolt 3. I would, however, be very surprised if AMD will get a mobile part on Polaris out before the september time frame (they will go high end GPU first), and I think Apple needs to get the Skylake MBP out this Spring. :)

Since no rumors say skylake come with a redesign
Why must there be any leak right now?

According to the previous routine updates without events
The leaks usually come 1-2 weeks before the release, and always with the change of delivery

So, there are still so many weeks before March
Be optimistic :)
