If you cant, then buy it today. If you can, buy it tomorrow. This you can repeating each morning:)

I'm in the same boat as many of you. Old Lenovo unit is dying and I'm holding out as long as I can for the refresh/update. I do have some gaming requirements namely Blizzard products and some new MMOs coming out (Shards Online, Albion Online). I've read mixed reviews of the performance gains the new iGPUs will offer.

Relative to the current Iris 6100 is the new GPU architecture definitely worth holding out for in this forums opinion?

This is my post on this topic, just one page before.

HD550 in 13 inch will possibly be 15-20% faster than HD540, and 580 from 15 inch should be somewhere between 50 and 70% faster than HD540.

580 should not be that far from GTX 860M...

Hey ,
im new here!
just cant wait the new macbook pro to come.. !

When actually do you believe new macbook pro comes?
March event OR june event?
Definitely june. Theres no Intel NOR Apple manufacture rumors going around. We would've definitely heard something out that process of getting new pieces.

Don't believe the "macbook manufactory is small than iPhones" ********.

Laptops are just as important and big as iPhones. We even heard *SOMETHING* of the 12inch macbook before it came out.

Hell, just look at the iPhone 7. rumors already...

I should state that I'm looking at the 13" route for portability. Thanks for these details. The article you linked looks to have a good comparison of the iris 6100 to the new gen stuff.

...

Hang on! Has no one here noticed Intel's announcement of this years edition of their NUC?

They have a new model coming with a 45W, quad-core chip, with IrisPro. Sounds exactly like the chip for the 15" rMBP, no?

When's it coming? Intel says "...we should expect more information... in mid-March" (my emphasis)

Check back about 12 pages, this has been discussed heavily during CES.

This has already been discussed. Please see my post #3383 in this thread. There were no significant rumors of the 15" rMBP redesign until 14 May 2012. The rMBP was then released on 11 June 2012.

Outstanding... front page material for sure. Our first real rumor of the Skylake MBPs.

I clicked on the link but it's just a bunch of numbers... Anyone cares to explain those to me?
Is it referring to a processor that might be in the 13" mbpro?

It's the i7-6567U, a 28W CPU with Iris 550.

and the proc is still unreleased according to ARK so this is crazy. From notebookcheck.net:

The Intel Iris Graphics 550 (GT3e) is an integrated graphics unit of the Skylake generation. As successors of the Iris Graphics 6100 (Broadwell), the Iris Graphics 550 can be found in CPUs of 28-watt series and offers 64 MB of dedicated eDRAM memory. Furthermore, the so-called GT3e-version features 48 Execution Units (EUs) clocked at up to 1100 MHz (depending on the CPU model). Besides the eDRAM cache, the Iris 550 is able to access the main memory (2x 64bit DDR3L-1600 / DDR4-2133).

Compared to the Iris Graphics 540 of the 15-watt series, the Iris Graphics 550 differs only by its slightly higher maximum clock and a nearly doubled TDP, which allows a better utilization of the Turbo Boost.

Performance

The exact performance of the Iris Graphics 550 depends on various factors like L3 Cache size, memory (DDR3/DDR4) and maximum clock rate of the specific model. The fastest versions (Core i7-6567U) may compete with a dedicated GeForce 930M and will handle modern games (as of 2015) in low or medium settings.

Features

The revised video engine now decodes H.265/HEVC completely in hardware and thereby much more efficiently than before. Displays can be connected via DP 1.2 / eDP 1.3 (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 60 Hz), whereas HDMI is limited to the older version 1.4a (max. 3840 x 2160 @ 30 Hz). However, HDMI 2.0 can be added using a DisplayPort converter. Up to three displays can be controlled simultaneously.

Power Consumption

The Iris Graphics 550 can be found in mobile processors specified at 28 W TDP and is therefore suited for medium-sized laptops and ultrabooks.

13" Skylake rMBP...wow..

Btw please tell me the base model starts at 8GB of memory, what's up with this 6GB stuff?

The early 2015 13'' retina macbook pro with i5 5257u is much more faster (2982 single, 6278 multi) than the 2016 model with i7? I dont't think so.

Why do you suppose this to be an apple product and not another brand laptop ?

Is this a trustworthy site with these measurements ?

I don't know if Apple will hold a special event to announce the Skylake rMBP 15" so there is no event in June as far as the past trend goes and as far as I know either it will announced in March or just before the fall event of iPhone 7 i.e. July-August. But I don't know if Apple will still wait this much long for their 15" rMBP because then it would be almost 3 years without a chip upgrade that will be making them fall behind way too much of the competition.

Could be an indictation of a new, more thermally constrained design, like the MacBook is. Maybe it's a down-throttled CPU?

Or, maybe it's just a test board, as guessed above, that doesn't reflect accurately what the coming MBP setup is? Certainly the reported memory configuration is weird.

Show me a leaked 6850HQ with Intel 580 then I'll get excited. Intel has been releasing the lower CPUs like clockwork from beginning. The high-end quad core i7s have yet to be seen. All the PC manufacturers are just using the baseline 6700HQ. They can of course, get away with it since they are using dGPUs anyway.

ark actually says it's been "launched" Q3'15 but unlike for the other iris 550 CPUs, it does not have a "Release" and instead says "Status: Announced". so that's a bit confusing.

Wrong CPU. Intel ARK has the 6267U, not the 6567U.

Drivers and it being a test machine would be my guess. The 6GB of RAM screams some type of prototype logicboard.

The sad part is, Apple choosing to go with a more thermally constrained design and just letting the CPU throttle is totally Apple-like. Probably the number one reason why I'm partially scared of a new redesign.
