Can't believe I spent $2,600 for a base 15" with AppleCare, pure insanity, better be worth it for my first Mac. My original cap was $2,200 and they still found a way t surprise me lol.

What have I done.. I bought a maxed out build..

Did the 2015 MacBook Pro price go down?

Not in the UK, went 25%!! The base MBP configuration was £1,000 until yesterday, now they are still selling it alongside the new MBP for £1,250!! I managed to pay 850 for it on Amazon market place, I have a feeling I will be able to sell it at a gain!

is that also the case in the new 13" rMBP announced today even that has all dedicated GPU ?
No. 13 inch does not have dedicated GPU, only Integrated. On the contrary, the GPUs in 13 inch are quite good actually. They are on the same level as GT650M/750M that were in MacBook Pro 15 inch for some time.

Is a base 13" good enough for most people? Or should i look to beef it up? The price is just so DAMN expensive

I was in a a mood to but the 15" rMBP bit these dedicated GPU's in 15" has spoilt the game for me.

Depends what you are doing

16GB won't be enough for heavy video editing that I can confirm

I can confirm it too. I do assignment-based photography and video work in the field about 150 days out of the year. I needed this laptop to be a beast for my work in the field, whereas back at home I turn things over to my 32 GB iMac. I can't believe that Apple would release such a forward-thinking laptop that does not have enough RAM for what I do today, let alone 2 years from now.

Sorely disappointed.

So with the student discount (and including tax) the base model 15" + 512GB SSD comes down to around 2600 euro.. Which is still a lot of money, but the student discount helps :) Non-discount price is 2939 here in the NL.

For Video editing/After Effects - best to get a maxed out build? Any downside in getting the more expensive graphics card?

How is the difference between the basic CPU of the 13" with and without Touch Bar? Is it big?

And does a basic 13" without Touch Bar and an upgrade to 16 GB make sense or is the cheapest 13" with Touch Bar the better call? I won't spend more than 1800€ on this computer (edu)

so the GPU is only

Hey it can run doom decently!!

I believe that's the desktop version, mobile version is usually ~10% slower this generation, if not subjected to thermal limitations. Also, Mac OS X & Windows performance may vary. Windows usually renders more FPS.

Is everyone in this thread whining too? The touchbar is brilliant and not a single person in the main thread has anything nice to say about it.

It's the most revolutionary thing Apple has done in years and has clear benefits to a god damn touch screen laptop.

It's the only thing I DON'T like about the new MBPs (as I suspected would be the case)

I was expecting to order a new MBP tonight - I have been excited about the Touch Bar since the rumors first circulated and the keynote delivered most of what I hoped for. I don't mind transitioning to USB-C. But I won't order yet. I'll wait for the reviews to come in and to see it in the flesh and then decide. My 2011 17" will need to last me a bit longer. I like that the 15" is a bit lighter and more compact. And that it comes with dGPU. I'm willing to pay good money for quality and specs but having only 256GB in the 15" as standard is lame. So maybe I'll stick aroud a little longer and hold out for spec bump (Kaby Lake, 512GB) in, 6 months maybe?

Touch Bar base model in Germany is 2000 €. With 8 GB Ram and a 256 GB SSD :D What have they been smoking?

Man, I really need a new computer and I've been waiting for so long, this really sucks. Guess I'll go back to Windows.
