Well, I placed my order:

15-inch MacBook Pro - Space Gray
Hardware
2.9GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.8GHz
16GB 2133MHz memory
2TB PCIe-based SSD
Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB memory
Backlit Keyboard (English) & User's Guide
Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
Touch Bar and Touch ID
Force Touch trackpad
Accessory Kit

I think the touch bar is useless and I wish it had 32 GB of memory as an option.

I feel sorry for the folks stuck with the Radeon Pro 450 or 455. A FrankenGPU never works out well...

I can't afford it. i will have to buy an old model. how do these specs look?

Intel Core i7 Quad Core Processor 2.2GHz
Mac OS X 10.10 Yosemite
16GB DDR3L-1600 Onboard RAM
256GB Flash Storage
Intel Iris Pro
SDXC Card Slot
802.11ac Wireless
Bluetooth 4.0
15.4" LED-backlit IPS Display

Touch Bar base model in Germany is 2000 €. With 8 GB Ram and a 256 GB SSD :D What have they been smoking?

Man, I really need a new computer and I've been waiting for so long, this really sucks. Guess I'll go back to Windows.

When you go for 512GB and DGPU, you're at 2940€. The old one was at 2800 with DGPU and 512GB, so it's just 140€ more. Hopefully, Cyberport charges 2,6-2,7k for that configuration. I think, they'll offer lower priced models with iGPU later. :)

baseless speculation: apple's saving the RAM upgrades for some update next year

Ordered base 15", space gray, upgraded to 512G. Couldn't wait any longer.

For Video editing/After Effects - best to get a maxed out build? Any downside in getting the more expensive graphics card?
2.6 GHz, 16 GB of RAM, 512 GB- 1 TB SSD, Radeon Pro 460.

That is my config If I would be building my own. The difference in CPU is absolutely marginal.

The 15" still includes an integrated gpu for switching.

I love there are people in this thread willing to drop 3200+ but were still hoping for better. For 3200+ it better be everything you hoped and dreamed for or you are just continuing to feed the Apple beast and paying the "meh" forward on the next release
Alternatives:
1. Repair current laptop for > $1500
2. Switch to Windows [not a great idea for an iOS/Mac dev]
3. Build a hackintosh - an attractive option but I can't afford it screwing up
4. Buy an older gen - still expensive
5. Complain about the price for a few weeks and then buy one anyway because my current laptop dies

Is the base new 13’ MBP for 1499$ less powerful than last years base model? It has 2 ghz i5 and 2015 version has 2,7 ghz i5. This is the only reasonal explanation why they both cost the same (256GB).

The $400 USD / $600 CAD price hike is outrageous IMO. I'll stick with my $499 machine. It has a Core i5, 256 GB SSD, 8 GB of RAM, touch screen, LED keyboard, Windows 10.

it seems like everyone who already bought these is posting on this thread, i can't believe those prices won't startle you the least bit. where do you live, what's your job? i want to come there.

If Apple's website isn't wrong, it's all DDR3.
the highest spec should be using DDR4 no?

if that's the case I feel sorry for everyone who ordered this POS. Guys if you want to pay upwards of more than 2 grand for a laptop at least make sure it got the latest tech. Not to say DDR4 is very new but this is Apple.....

Can any other UK students confirm this, I'm only getting an approximate 10% student discount through Unidays. I thought the discount amount is 14%??
