Design refresh is typical Apple and its becoming underwhelming.
Windows has beaten Apple over the events of the last 2 days.

We are now seeing more and more models, just like the pre-Steve era of Apple.
History is repeating.
A sad day.

No other options, yo. If you're set on MacOS and the latest tech (like I am) then you're going to be buying it. Doesn't mean it's not still disappointing, but might as well make the best out of it.
you can say you're set on MacOS, that's fair enough and I'm not gonna convince you to move over to Windows

but technically... Skylake and DDR3s are not latest tech

Just bitten but I'm not happy about the absolute gouging on upgrades, they really should have updated stock configurations but no, only 16GB RAM. Bit off that I've also had to order a dongle so I can use my iPhone 7! £3k after my union discount. On a feckin' laptop! Was going to get a new iMac too but they can forget that. Going to get one of those LG screens they were talking about. Or are there better options out there?

At least we saw an update and it will no doubt be a killer machine. Feel very sorry for the Mac Pro guys.

Went for:
  • 2.7GHz quad-core Intel Core i7 processor, Turbo Boost up to 3.6GHz
  • 16GB 2133MHz memory
  • 1TB PCIe-based SSD
  • Radeon Pro 460 with 4GB memory
  • Backlit Keyboard (British) & User’s Guide (English)
  • Four Thunderbolt 3 ports
  • Touch Bar and Touch ID
  • Force Touch trackpad
  • Accessory Kit

I personally could not care less about the touch bar. But I was not expecting the prices to be hiked by $500 for the 13-inch base model.

It does not even have the Iris Pro 580! Apple settled for an inferior HD 530; no dGPU, bare bone minimum laptop starting at $2500 CAD or $2750 with Apple Care.

I really don't care about OLED. Absolutely not impressed, nothing to compare with MS Studio (that's really impressive, seriously), so I'll be perfectly satisfied with a basic 13" with no OLED at the same price of the 2015! :)
but i suspect it will be slower than the 2015pro!
no wonder that they compared it to the macbook air! saying it's faster than the mba!

Any word on when the 13" with OLED will be available in store?

Now I have to decide if I want to spend $1800 on a 13" with OLED, Razer 14 or just get a 2015 MacBook Pro with upgraded Ssd and ram.

If the price was $1500 for the 13" with touchbar it would be no contest but at $1800 it's hard to justify the value.

After about 30 minutes of soul searching I Ordered the top 15" with the upgraded processed and graphics card 1tb hd.

The dGPU was a no brained for me.
The processor have to think a bit about
The HD felt like a heart attack, I was dead certain to get 2tb but for $800 over the 1tb I couldn't do it.

My biggest let down would be the ram stuck at 16gb but at least it's ddr4. Next would be the older dGPUs was really hoping for something this year. I'm not surprised by the CPUs because no one else has them either.

Nope.
16GB of 2133MHz LPDDR3 onboard memory

two USB-C ports on base? WTF?

That's one port + power for $1500 + tax

Even for Apple......

So essentially, they have a $1800 base model, and then an 'unlucky gimped' model for $1500 :D

I originally had ordered a 13 and was able to cancel it. I did order a 15, but after thinking about it, will probably cancel that as well. 3k for last years tech is just too much.

i know but it's not only about the resolution.. this thing has a 500 nit brightness and excelant contrast + P3.. i'm sure it will not disappoint

Agreed.

After all the discussion on it here, I thought it was a foregone conclusion Apple would have a flavor with that in it.

How is the Radeon better? (beyond, I'm assuming, faster because it's a dGPU vs GPU)
I they had used only iris pro for all 15 conf with that price that would be even more funny :D The main problem with this mac is that its even more thin so the gpu performance will be crippled(also becasue the use amd not nvidia) and battery life also. My 13' broadwell can be really hot and noisy, don't want to imagine what the new version will be in this aspect.

I get the complaints for Skylake and DDR3...... next year we'll have Kaby Lake, DDR4 and a better dGPU. That's how Apple rolls. As for these Steve comments, to me this a product Steve would make. No one else has implemented the touch bar successfully. We'll see how Apple does it.

Order status says that cancelling is unavailable at this time? The cancel order button is still there, anyone know if this will work?
