I kind of like it the more I think about it actually. Seems like a fine laptop that suits my needs, I'm surprised at the people in college considering these however. Perhaps people aren't as broke as I was back in college? I'd probably have a chromebook if they were a thing when I went, even now with a career the price of these gives me a bit of pause - but seems only a few hundred dollars more than reasonable so eh

AMD RX 460 has a 174% advantage over Iris 550 (Source)

AMD Radeon Pro 460 is very similar to the RX 460, albeit with a slight performance penalty (2.15 vs. 1.86 TFLOPS), so applying this performance penalty to the above advantage yields ~150%.

In other words, AMD Pro 460 is roughly 2.5x faster than Iris 550.
According to game benchmarks of the RX460, if the Pro 460 is relatively comparable, then most current games will play fine at medium or high settings.

EDIT: this is assuming that the Radeon Pro 460 is comparable to the Desktop RX 460

as much as i dislike the prices and i'll never buy one (i admit it, i was here just for fun all this time), i look forward for the geekbench and ifixit in depth info :)

just checked one thing: the batteries shrunk a LOT! skylake must really do miracles with energy saving

That space between the 15 inch's keyboard and screen is disgusting.

Agreed! I'm typing this on a late2008/early2009 MBP15. I kept looking between the picture of the new one, and my aging MBP. Yuck! The space is probably the same, but mine has a fat black hinge that blends in with the lower screen bezel.

Here's some info on the actual graphics cards. To put it into perspective the old Radeon M370 is around 1.2 Teraflops, maybe a little less in the macbook pro depending on how they clocked it. This really makes me upset as the Iris was supposed to be around 1.1 Teraflops. Basically head to head with the Radon 450 Pro. I would have totally went for an iGPU 580 over the 450 Pro. :(

EDIT: Apple claims the Radeon 560 pro is 60% faster than the old M370. That's pretty much on point when you compare the 1.86 to 1.2 TFLOP.

Any XPS 15 users in this thread?

My two options are : rMBP i5/512/8GB for £1754 (student discount)

or

Dell XPS 15 i7/512/16GB for $1958 inc. tax (£1472) (I'm in the US right now on holiday but the MBP won't be available for a while)

I primarily use my laptop for web browsing/streaming movies/TV and some gaming (Civ VI, BF1, FM2017 is what I would be playing)

Obviously the Dell is a better laptop for gaming with the 960m, but can any current owners tell me how good the trackpad, keyboard and battery are in real life? Tbh I prefer Apple's software, display scaling, build quality and trackpad but I'm not sure what to get at this price point. (Windows high res scaling pisses me off, but is it worth £300 more for the mac)

Thanks
get the I7 one, especially for Civ 6. almost make sure you get the one with the nvidia graphics.

Went with non-touch 2.0Ghz i5 13" 512SSD 16GB here. Don't need faster processor, but do need 16GB RAM for VMs and looking forward to TB3 + Accessories that will more than likely be popping up in the next few months (Bootcamp + eGPU for gaming?) ... Saved $300. Also should have longer battery life with the lower wattage CPU and bigger battery. It's replacing a 12" MacBook so should still be significantly faster and not that much bigger, and will be my road warrior. Looking forward to it!

So the 450 is pretty much a downgrade compared to the last dgpu smfh...

It better be extremely efficient and quiet/cool if they chose to make it for the base models

The Radeon Pro 450 is basically what the Iris Pro 580 would have been.

According to GPUboss (http://gpuboss.com/graphics-card/Radeon-R9-M370X-Mac) the Raw performance of the R9 M370X is 1024 GFlops or 1TFlops

This means that the performance of the Pro 450 is pretty much the same as the R9 M370X

So, here's the obvious question: If it's they're using Q4 2015 chips, what the **** did we have to wait so long???

The better question is when is Kaby Lake H coming out? Not to be an ass but honestly, if they are settling for these processors, they can jump on Kaby Lake H GT3e processors as soon as they come out.

Quiet update in under 6 months ?

The price hike in the UK kind of caught me by surprise. I ended up shelling out more than £2900 for a 15/2.7/1Tb with the student discount and apple care. I am a bit unsure whether I should have taken the 2.9 and upgraded to the 460. Can any of you guys explain a bit more in detail if and when I might regret not having that amount of extra power?

Can anyone tell me about the HD 530? I've configured a BTO with a Radeon Pro 460, so I'm just trying to figure out if I'm going to be dealing with poor battery life or anything like that because of the dGPU being more necessary than it would if there was a HD 580.

I currently have the original Retina Macbook Pro, so either way this is a pretty substantial jump in performance for me I'm pretty sure, but I'm just curious to know how the HD 530 compares to other GPUs and the 13 inch's HD 550.
