The price hike in the UK kind of caught me by surprise. I ended up shelling out more than £2900 for a 15/2.7/1Tb with the student discount and apple care. I am a bit unsure whether I should have taken the 2.9 and upgraded to the 460. Can any of you guys explain a bit more in detail if and when I might regret not having that amount of extra power?

Forget the 2.7 -> 2.9 CPU, the biggest difference that will make is in your wallet. But I think you should have gotten the 460 upgrade. It's the least expensive and the most worth it upgrade in my opinion.

I kind of like it the more I think about it actually. Seems like a fine laptop that suits my needs, I'm surprised at the people in college considering these however. Perhaps people aren't as broke as I was back in college? I'd probably have a chromebook if they were a thing when I went, even now with a career the price of these gives me a bit of pause - but seems only a few hundred dollars more than reasonable so eh

I'm a college student and over the summer I worked as a lifeguard almost 4 months. after taxes I earned around 2.3k. and since I live with my parents I don't have to worry about food/rent. and since I had good grades in high school, I got almost a full ride to a big ten school. so yeah I can afford one of these laptops that will last me atleast 5 years.

Will not last 5 years. 16g of RAM was great 2 years ago.

If I wouldn't hate Windows that much...

DELL XPS 15"
i7-6700HQ 3,5 GHz Quad
32 GB Ram DDR 4 2.133 MHz
Ultra HD (3.840 x 2.160) Infinity Edge Display
1 TB PCIe SSD
Nvidia GTX 960M, 2GB
2.219,- € // Dell Business Shop Austria

Seriously. That are amazing stats and the new MBPs don't come anywhere near.
But yeah. They have that "Hipster-Bar".

*belch*
I'm now stuck between a rock and a dull place.

Apple just set the bar higher, but not in a good way. The prices on the new MBPs just opened the door for competitors to charge more for their new laptops as well. I expect Apple's prices to be the norm by this time next year.

no way 2.9 gdz is worth an extra 200. but the 460 from what I've read on this thread is definitely worth it. especially since it's only 100 extra.

Can anyone tell me about the HD 530? I've configured a BTO with a Radeon Pro 460, so I'm just trying to figure out if I'm going to be dealing with poor battery life or anything like that because of the dGPU being more necessary than it would if there was a HD 580.

I currently have the original Retina Macbook Pro, so either way this is a pretty substantial jump in performance for me I'm pretty sure, but I'm just curious to know how the HD 530 compares to other GPUs and the 13 inch's HD 550.
http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Iris-Pro-580-Mobile-Skylake-vs-AMD-RX-460/m132950vs3641 remove 15-20% from the RX 460 to get the pro 460 performance. which means that the HD 580 would be around 80% slower than the Pro 460.

intel iris 550 (13in) is around 50% faster than the HD 530

EDIT: this is assuming that the Radeon Pro 460 is comparable to the Desktop RX 460

Well that was anticlimactic.

Not sure how Apple can screw up this badly for several years now.

Everything except services has been a joke.
I don't buy into this cloud BS so that leaves me with nothing to buy from apple at all.

The Air was the perfect machine in just about every way for just about everyone. Except the screen.
Just give it updated internals and a retina screen for F sakes. . . How is that so difficult?
Can't even do that much and simultaneously screw up every other piece of hardware. . . . What is wrong with you Apple?

the track pad looks gigantic in this photo

looks comical.

I've been reading about that. Apparently if you're a clever cookie, you can get OSX running on that easily. There was a swath of threads on other mac sites and other PC based forums this morning that got wiped because of the obvious reasons to not make threads like that.

So... operating systems, and applications are becoming more efficient, and needing less ram, and you're thinking merely because it's 2016 that somehow the amount of ram is obsolete? Have you ever actually seen that even power users use their pro's for? I run 7-80 tabs in chrome every day, a multitude of software, encryption software, photo editing software, I've never once been able to max out my 16GB ram in my early 2013 MBP. Surely you're not just saying that because you've heard others say it?

Apart from the better iGPU (the 580 over the 530) are the late 2016 CPU's better?
The 2,9Ghz is around 15% better and the 2,7Ghz is around 6% better.

Wow, what a night, and Oh the anguish and rage!
I got the standard 15" 512GB model with the 2,5ghz i7 a month ago. It includes the 370X running at around 1TFLOPS.
I paid 2900$ for it here in Norway on sale.
The same standard 512GB model with the new 2,7ghz i7 which is about 6% faster, with the Radeon 455 running at 1,3 TFLOPS is 3630$ here in Norway.
I can't believe I saved 700$+ and only lost out 6% cpu and 30%GPU, pluss the Touch Bar that I didn't really want.
Feeling like I dodged a bullet on this one. The Keyboard reviews are not sounding good either cause I for one HATE the rMB keyboard.

I'll stick to unlocking via my  Watch.
Ps. The base 2015 15" is still around here as well, starting at 130$ less that yesterday. So they didn't up the price for the now Legendary rMBp 15 Classic ;)
PPS. Anyone exited about the new Final Cut? Looked good in the presentation.

I don't want to reorder as it says shipping in 2-3 weeks for mine and a new order would be dispatched in 3-4 weeks. Is there any easy way of swapping to 460 after I have received it? Like taking it to the Apple Store and paying the difference or something like that?

Waiting for the price to decrease, while apple increased prices? Not likely.

The cost of Apple buying these chips on their release at start of the year compared to now would be quite a difference.

Apple always increase prices, regardless of new or old cpu's, its not new.

Id say the magic bar has cause the increase the most.

Can't wait until mine arrives

No! AFAIK there is no way to change components in these new machines after you receive them

Yeah the large trackpad is starting to look a little silly in some pics. Would like to test it out and see if my palms are constantly resting on it and whether that affects anything negatively.

I wonder what the reason is for this? Just because they had the room? That thing is massive...

Not likely how??? Cause Apple is not like that? Or way worse than that all the time?

Please let me know if I can help you with your adjustment to this alternate universe from your previous one which sounds much different from ours.

everybody said it already. here i come: the price is insane ********. i don't think it's justified - at least not the storage rip-off they still pull off. 2700€ for the base 15" model with only (!!!) 256gb is not justified - even with the touch bar. i'm quite angry at tim for his asp sharade. ANGRY.

not arguing with you but I wonder. do you think you will be able to max out 16gb of ram in 5 years with os and app updates? just curious.
