This is exactly the model I ordered. I keep debating on whether or not to cancel and upgrade to the i7 but $300 seems like a LOT of money for a minor bump in clock speed.

From what I keep hearing it's not really worth it. It's better for gaming I think but not like tons better. I rather have the upgraded SSD and ram over the i7. For what I use it for (app and web development) the i5 is plenty and having the i7 won't be a huge difference in performance. Not $300 worth to get 5 maybe 10% more? lol I did think about it too though but in the end decided the i5 is plenty

Yeah the large trackpad is starting to look a little silly in some pics. Would like to test it out and see if my palms are constantly resting on it and whether that affects anything negatively.

I can say for sure that palms/wrists will have nowhere to go. You will accidentally touch it all the time.
It's bad enough of the rMB. It's now even worse on the Pros.
Incredibly stupid move.

Will not last 5 years. 16g of RAM was great 2 years ago.

lmao. I value your opinion but this is my first laptop that has 16gb of ram. before this I had 8gb and I currently using a laptop that has 4gb. I think I'll be able to survive with 16gb of ram for the next 5 years. :)

http://gpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Iris-Pro-580-Mobile-Skylake-vs-AMD-RX-460/m132950vs3641 remove 15-20% from the RX 460 to get the pro 460 performance. which means that the HD 580 would be around 80% slower than the Pro 460.

intel iris 550 (13in) is around 50% faster than the HD 530

EDIT: this is assuming that the Radeon Pro 460 is comparable to the Desktop RX 460
Interesting. Thanks.

I can understand the jump in starting price when you factor in the new touch bar and touch ID, but to still include only 256gb as base storage and then charge $400 to bump it up to a more reasonable 512gb (and throw in a very small minimal processor/graphics boost) is ridiculous and high way robbery for 2016.

...and less weight, and smaller form factor, and faster graphics, and 4 x TB3, and brighter screen, and wider screen gamut.
Upgrades which you wouldn't expect to pay a premium for, considering that they came how many years later?

Now Skylake is here. I expect this thread to look like this:

All the hype and the excitement have been replaced by a desolate wasteland of bleeding wallets o_O

I don't think so.
Wallets would have to be used to be bleeding and I really don't think these are going to sell well.

So...

- We are getting not the 6870 CPU, but a 6820, a year old CPU
- The GPU is worse than expected, Pro 460 instead of RX 460 (and you have to upgrade to the 460, base is 450)
- Maximum 16gb ram
- Huge price increase
- Battery capacity from 99.5 to 76khw (omg...)
- Same screen resolution (don't even think they managed to equal 100% Adobe RGB/HDR like other manufacturers)
- Already complaints about keyboard

24 hours ago, here I was thinking, I will be completely switching to the Apple ecosystem, already having their watch and iphone.

I was so hoping for an iGPU version of the 15 inch with the Iris Pro but no dice.

The 13 inch, maybe, but at that price, why bother? Even their battery capacity has been reduced from a whopping 75khw to 54.5.

I am now definitely going to switch to Windows PC & Android phone. They have their shortcomings, but I am tired of pretending Apple isn't. Wow, just wow, what a disappointment.

I don't want to reorder as it says shipping in 2-3 weeks for mine and a new order would be dispatched in 3-4 weeks. Is there any easy way of swapping to 460 after I have received it? Like taking it to the Apple Store and paying the difference or something like that?

It sucks but you might just have to suck it up and wait a little longer. The Apple store can not directly swap out the GPU's, they'll have to give you an entirely new Macbook with those specs. The stores will not have them any sooner than the expected shipping date you're getting now, on day 1.

You'd have to get really lucky. Your local Apple store would have to have that exact model in stock (they probably wont).

I think the 460 should have been the first upgrade you went for when choosing.

The 15 inch should come with the 460 by default (which in itself is not a super powerful chip). But it seems Apple was cheaper than any of us could have predicted.

Have you tried the "ship to Apple store" option? It still says 2-3 weeks for me.

Well that was anticlimactic.

Not sure how Apple can screw up this badly for several years now.

Everything except services has been a joke.
I don't buy into this cloud BS so that leaves me with nothing to buy from apple at all.

The Air was the perfect machine in just about every way for just about everyone. Except the screen.
Just give it updated internals and a retina screen for F sakes. . . How is that so difficult?
Can't even do that much and simultaneously screw up every other piece of hardware. . . . What is wrong with you Apple?

The 13 inch non touch bar version is pretty much the retina air people have been waiting for. The only problem is the pricing.

Have you seen what they have done to the battery on all the new models? 25% less capacity. That is not even funny.

Thinness comes at a price. In more than one way.

That's the problem I have. They want thinner, thinner, thinner, but they're thinning it faster than actual components are shrinking in size, so thus come the compromises.

For people complaining about the lack of Iris Pro 580.

Was there not leaks from Intel's Roadmap stating that the Iris Pro line no longer has a future? So why then continue with it NOW if Kabylake is already abandoning the Iris Pro iGPUs? It is inevitable.
