Thinness comes at a price. In more than one way.

That's the problem I have. They want thinner, thinner, thinner, but they're thinning it faster than actual components are shrinking in size.

Well the previous rMBP was thinner than whatever it was an upgrade to - but they managed to keep it 99.5khw battery (aka the maximum allowed on flights).

For me, battery life on these machines was such a big deal - to make a 25% hit for what amounted to a couple of mm thinner designs (which no one even wanted or cared for), holy ****. I used to laugh at the "Apple lost it's way train", but I may have to join them.

Have you seen what they have done to the battery on all the new models? 25% less capacity. That is not even funny.

No, havent paid much attention to it. Is this across all models, 13 and 15? I'm assuming the power efficiency of Skylake makes up for some of it. We'll have to wait for the reviews to find out though I suppose.

The 13 inch non touch bar version is pretty much the retina air people have been waiting for. The only problem is the pricing.

No Ports or Magsafe either.

Which means it is no replacement at all.
It's nowhere near as versatile or the everyman price.

Does everyone stop posting?!
I'm trying to catch up the thread!
Page 1394 so far!
I can do it!
(beware: uber-ultra multiquote post incoming...)
[and this time, I'm not drunk!]

There's no point mate. This update has been seriously underwhelming and overpriced.

Old processors, base dGPU has the same power as the current 2015 dGPU, battery capacity considerably smaller (some saying by 25%!) and I thought there was a rumour about magnetic magsafe style usb-c. I can't see that anywhere.

Oh and they didn't even include the Magic Keyboard design, it's basically a rMB keyboard with PERHAPS, and that's a big PERHAPS, slightly more travel, depending on which review you read (CNET saying there isn't, arstechnica saying there is)

Wait a minute...I haven't seen the whole keynote yet but you're telling me that iPhones can't even connect to the new MBPs without some sort of dongle??? Your flagship phones and flagship laptops don't even connect together without an adaptor...are you kidding me, Apple!? Do you guys even talk to each other over there???

I'm done. I can't handle anymore tonight. Hopefully @WRONG left some whisky on the shelf for me.

I'm quite intrigued how they can increase screen brightness/contrast, offer a secondary retina touchbar that consumes battery, and reduce battery size by 25% whilst still claiming both models can have 10 hours of battery life?? Is Skylake that efficient? Can someone elaborate or is the advertised 10 hours realistically going to be around 6?

So if given a choice, which will last me longer, the base 15" with 256 gig SSD or a 16 gig ram/512 gig SSD 13"?

Apple is quoting 10hrs on their site for the 15", the old 15" is quoted at 9hrs. I'd wait for reviews before assuming it's going to be a lot worse battery life. Essentially all the major components of the laptop now use less power than the prior model so it's not hard to imagine it could be similar even at a smaller capacity. The drain from the Touch Bar is probably minor too thanks to OLED.

Welp, I put my order in and it totals $3800 after tax. 2.9ghz, 1TB, 16GB RAM, Radeon "Pro" 460, no AppleCare. I couldn't fathom seeing the price go over $4k for such hardware.

I feel robbed especially with that GPU - just...why? when the GTX 1060 is almost 100% more powerful? I am not sure I'm keeping the order, but figured I should place one at minute zero so I have time to decide.

Well Apple does make a $25 USB-C to Lightning cable, so you don't need a dongle.

For people complaining about the lack of Iris Pro 580.

Was there not leaks from Intel's Roadmap stating that the Iris Pro line no longer has a future? So why then continue with it NOW if Kabylake is already abandoning the Iris Pro iGPUs? It is inevitable.

Cause it's better then what they're giving us now! Also, the 6700/HD530s are going away as well. Everything they're putting in these machines will eventually go way. The hope is you put in the newest available, but apparently for the almighty $$$$ Apple is putting in the oldest still available.

Most impressive aspect of todays keynote, the amount of support they've got for pro apps for the touch bar. Photoshop, Sketch, Office. Really wasnt expecting them to have that much support ready to go at launch.

I think they said the Photoshop support wouldn't be ready until the end of the year. Someone can correct me if I heard that wrong, though.

Not with the included cable. Either a dongle, or you can buy a USBC-Lighting cable. My bet is the next iPhone will have USB-C connectivity.

Cancel your order and re-purchase under an EDU discount (http://www.apple.com/us-hed/shop). With AppleCare I got the same machine for just over $3600.

Not for nothing guys - but everyone that held out for the 2016 looks like they once again got disappointed. I am very sorry to hear it... I was hoping for better. Hate the keyboard, no MagSafe, no thunderbolt, graphics looks like it's the only thing worth it. Glad I stuck with the 2015 15" rMBP. Once again... Apple disappoints.

Hug me. I need one.
