I'm quite intrigued how they can increase screen brightness/contrast, offer a secondary retina touchbar that consumes battery, and reduce battery size by 25% whilst still claiming both models can have 10 hours of battery life?? Is Skylake that efficient? Can someone elaborate or is the advertised 10 hours realistically going to be around 6?

Turn it on, and walk away. That's how. The second you use anything that touches that dGPU your battery will get destroyed.

I feel robbed especially with that GPU - just...why? when the GTX 1060 is almost 100% more powerful? I am not sure I'm keeping the order, but figured I should place one at minute zero so I have time to decide.
If Apple did that you'd have 1) Drastically lower battery life. Really drastic. 2) Likely thicker and heavier laptop due to the cooling system needed to cool a 1060.

Nvidia is offering what are essentially desktop versions of their Pascal chips for laptops. They aren't truly a mobile solution like AMD has with Polaris. It's not as easy as "Oh look what Razer or Dell put in their laptop, why doesn't Apple do that too".

If you really need GPU power in a laptop, you either need to forget about Apple (they've never been about really powerful dGPUs) and look to Windows, or hope that Apple has snuck in some good eGPU support over TB3.

Hahaha this is exactly what I predicted. I'm so glad I made the purchase of my Dell XPS 15 months ago.

Not for nothing guys - but everyone that held out for the 2016 looks like they once again got disappointed. I am very sorry to hear it... I was hoping for better. Hate the keyboard, no MagSafe, no thunderbolt, graphics looks like it's the only thing worth it. Glad I stuck with the 2015 15" rMBP. Once again... Apple disappoints.

I'm just disappointed about not having the newest skylake (isn't that what this thread is about)?

Price wise, I just checked and it's actually cheaper then the 2012 I bought, so I'm not too mad about that.

Ordered.. Doesn't deliver till December 2nd :(

15" Space Grey
2.7GHz quad‑core Intel Core i7
16GB 2133MHz memory
512GB PCIe‑based SSD
Radeon Pro 460

$4000!!!

Really unsure of my CPU choice, hope i dont regret not getting the 2.9.

I can't order mine until tomorrow night as I called the Apple Credit Card people and was eligible to get 0% but have to wait 24 hours to order so I might not see it before Christmas depending on how dates slip. But I'll use their money for free for 18 months and let mine keep working for me.

What's good about this new MacBook Pro? One, that it has touch ID, and second has better graphics. That is all worthwhile. I'll wait til Kaby lake. :(

In my world I would have to have waited 3 extra months and needed an extra $1,000 (I wanted an 11 and a 15). Plus no Best Buy till who knows when... but seriously THESE ARE AMAZING. Absolutely incredible. But I got one year left of serious work to do. AND:

If you can't honestly ADMIT, that these are, for the first year, going to be ABSOLUTE TOYS, where you tinker and play around with that Touch Bar and have to upgrade all of your Apps to get everything smooth then YOU are lying to yourself.

But good job guys 3 weeks left till you can jump over to the "Just got/order/opened etc my new SKylake MacBook Pro" thread." I am so happy for you 100%, I just ain't got no time to early adopt and beta test for a year, and I would HAVE to go back to having an Adobe Creative Cloud membership instead of using my CS6 licenses. Because there is NO WAY, if I had that Touch Bar I could live without those features!

LATERS and PEACE OUT!

The Razer Blade 14 FHD gets 7 hours of battery life and the QHD gets 5. I wouldn't say its "Drastically lower" then the 8~9 on the MacBook Pro 15". How much thicker and heavier are we talking? 100 grams? 1~2mm? I'm happy to give that up for a PRO machine - IF I wanted a thin and light I'd opt for a MacBook 12.

Does anyone else think that this is a stepping stone to a MBP convertible or at least full touch screen? I know people on here seem to hate touch screen laptops, but I got to take home an XPS 15 for a couple weeks and actually grew to really like the touchscreen. I'm thinking of buying one of those or an OLED X1 Yoga and seeing what Apple comes up with in 4 years in the next redesign. I have a feeling that this Toolbar will become outdated quickly (or it could also be amazing, I'm kind of 50-50 on it).

Nah Phil, you design for HIGH MARGINS!

well its a better cpu than the last model, faster ram, better graphics, touch id.

its the biggest update since 2012, and who know when the Kaby lake will be released.

look how long we waited for skylake....

FHD battery life is not comparable to the MBP with the Retina screen so the QHD is the right comparison. So yes, I'd say 5 hours versus 10 is a drastic difference. You wouldn't?

Sounds like the MBP isn't designed for your needs and the Razer may be better if you need the GPU power.

ugh, did apple just set the price point out of reach for normal humans?

The MBP's are around 3k including apple care. If you need more storage it's $3.5k.
The MBA is now the low end but with apple care and 512GB it's around $1.8k.
The MB is also around $1.8k

The low end MBA with Apple care is $1.3k. This is the entry point for a mobile Mac. It's barely enough for an avid user.

How in the world are young people going to afford that? Apple is moving itself into a niche market.

Don't get me wrong, despite a lot of things that I and many others here already criticized i think the MBP's are good notebooks. To many they are even great. But 3000 bucks or more for a computer for home usage is a lot. And for pro's the MBP's may have too many compromises.

My MBP is dying but I'll wait as long as I can before I get another one. I'm even considering getting the entry level MBA to ease the transition to windows.

To all those that waited the many months (maybe years) for the new rMBP, are you satisfied? Or has Apple priced you out of the game? I for one cannot justify the price and will not be picking it up, even though I had planned to.
