I really gotta find alternative chargers as there's no way I'm going to cough up $100 for the charger/cable. Can't find anything >80W for USB-C. I've currently got one in my home office, one in my basement (man cave), one in my backpack for on the go, one at work (via TB display), and another pair between two data centers I visit.

If I put the included one in my backpack, I'd still have to spend $500 to replace my chargers :-(

Phil said it best, the mbp is the gold standard of laptops. It's been true for the last 7-8 years, and it's true now.

Yes it should be for almost double the price of the last version in some cases.

Maxed out 2015 15 inch MacBook Pro in the UK -£ 2438

Maxed out 2016 MacBook Pro in the Uk - £4048.

and the performance difference is miniscule. There is a lot to admire Apple for but they should be ashamed of that pricing.

I have no doubt that the new MBP is a thing of beauty, and it's obviously not for "college students."

People are getting mad about not being able to afford the best. There are other options, even from Apple.

Yet guaranteed you'll see tons of them on college campuses soon. We college students always find ways of paying for things. *cough* rich parents *ahem*

Man, it used to be $79 for an 85W charger. Now the $79 USB-C charger doesn't even include a USB-C cable (another $20) or even the extension one ($20). Went from $80 to $140 just to charge your laptop. They really know how to rip off their customers.

The last gen 15" with 512GB/2.5GHz i5 w dGPU started at $2500. Same model is now $2600.
The last gen 13" with 256GB/2.9GHz i5 is $1600. Same model is now $1800.

Price increase isn't as extreme as they made it seem. The Surface line by MS though. That's a dagger.

Actually, it is on the 15"

Judging by the clock speeds and iGPUs, these are the two processors Apple is using:
http://ark.intel.com/compare/88970,88967

The 6700HQ is the Skylake equivalent to the 2015 model's 4770HQ minus the Iris Pro graphics. So $400 increase in price, the only thing you are getting is the dGPU. Keep in mind that the non-Iris Pro CPUs are ~$50 cheaper as well.

For $2600, you aren't even getting the upgraded processor.

The fact is, the pricing is ridiculous. It looks like they are basically using the 2015 models for lower cost of entry, which is fine and dandy, except they didn't even reduce their prices. If they were going to keep the old rMBP for the same price, they could've at least dropped in a 6770HQ as Iris Pro only. In it's current state, the 2015 rMBP should $1799 max. I can't even make up a reason to defend this pricing to someone who is also looking at a Razer Blade 14 which offers desktop GTX 1060 for $1999 with a similar build.

Apple is basically flaunting their overpriced stereotype.

Ya, I feel sorry for you UK people, but for me, it's only $400 more than the old gen.

For my purposes (software developing / some video editing / consuming media / creating docs), the new MBP is literally perfect. I love having good speakers / display / elegance in my devices, and the new MBP literally has all of that. The new all metal exterior is hot as ****, and at 4 pounds, it's perfectly manageable for a 15".

Been thinking of what to type about the new MacBook Pro's for a bit and I keep on erasing what I type....I'm still disappointed on the new prices and the specs...but in short, I'm really happy I didn't wait until the keynote and bought my XPS 15 inch back in July.

Anyone missing Steve Jobs more than ever after this keynote? I know I am.

For those looking at the 15 inch XPS w/ the Nvidia 960M, it's a great machine and the 960M has been performing much better than I thought.

For those going w/ the MacBook pro w/ the 6700HQ, it's a fantastic processor and the battery life has been fantastic.

Those of us who were very happy 15" iGPU-only users who want to upgrade just got stuck with a mandatory $500+ dGPU tax. Maybe everyone likes their MBP too hot for a lap with fans cranking, but for me the cool, quiet iGPU for general use was perfect. Dismissing this group of users sure is sad to me, but by now I'm far beyond being surprised by Apple's behavior.

I guess I should be very relieved I got a 2015 rMBP 15 w/iGPU early this year for $1750 (after tiring of waiting for upgrades while all other vendors had them quickly). Looks like I'll be stuck with my 2015 for a long time.

Well.
That's it.
Just finished catching up all the posts.
It was hard but funny.
Now I'm really really confused, but too tired to write a decent post with all the multiquote it deserve.
I just want to say two things:

- this ****ing MBP is not worth its price. Simply as that.
- the journey of the wait was really better than the object of the wait itself.

Good night friends.
I have to sleep and think about this all...

edit: this is the fourth event in a row that disappoint me. Great, just great.
And, I think this thread will perseverate a little bit. Earlier was a place to comfort ourself together for the lack of news and the waiting, now is place to comfort ourself together for the high prices and old specs.
:D

Shipping estimate is now 3-4 weeks. Was it 2-3 weeks earlier or am I going crazy? (If so, I guess the "first batch" sold out already?)

damn I've been holding off half a year for this thing to come out like a dummy and it comes out and I can't afford it ha. My current ASUS laptop bulb died recently so I have to have it plugged in to a monitor to use, may as well be a desktop. I use Linux now and had a macbook pro 2011 before it which died last year. Not sure what to do now, go with an xps13 or razer blade stealth and maybe put linux on them, go with 2015 macbook pro, or wait longer maybe get the 16 near Xmas. Man let's redo today and go $1,099 for non touch 13, $1,299 for touch 13, and $1,999 for touch 15

it's amazing the tough issues we go through in the first world. people in the third world just don't get it they're a bunch of losers

What'd you order!?

Damn, this is even worse than the new iPad Pro case. Goodness gracious. This pricing is almost laughable.

With this new mbp, Apple isn't pissing anyone off but the ridiculous people. The ones who just bought the old MBPs probably aren't mad, and the only ones who'd be pissed are ones expecting more for less. Apple is the last company to expect more for less / same, lol.

What'd you order!?

If I'll be able to (aka if my parents are generous enough), I would like to buy the 15" with Radeon 460.
But honestly, I feel like I was feeling in June 2015: fooled.
Paying top dollars for old hardware.
F*** you, Apple.

(I was thinking about selling my liver to buy the MBP, but looks like no one is interested into it. I don't get why...)

XPS 15 and 2015 rMBP owners should be rejoicing right now, especially those who bought the 2015 model. Literally no price drop. You could've bought a 2015 rMBP yesterday and still be in the clear.

Yeah, they're not extreme they just pigeon holed everyone into HAVING to get the dGPU model and not getting 256GB extra SSD storage, if you want the 15"...
