Fraud is obviously the wrong word to use, but I do agree with your point: the MBP 15" has been a VERY bad value for months: outdated CPU, outdated GPU, extremely premium price (specially outside USA), etc. The MBP 13" and the MBAir are priced fairly, but for some reason the MBP 15" is pretty expensive for the specs you get.

I think a more suitable phrase would be "a complete rip off". Is Haswell incapable? Not at all. But that isn't the point. The point is it is an outdated processor being charged for at a premium price. There are lots of exciting alternatives to a Mac as of today. Vaio Z, Razer Blade Stealth to name two. The processor and iGPU that are suitable for the 13 inch rMBP is in the Vaio Z already and I am curious as to what the hey Apple is waiting for. I am excited for Thunderbolt 3 and Iris Pro 580 in the larger rMBP but I am also flustered that we have not seen any indication of an update which is why people are getting fed up with this crap. Yes, the Iris Pro 580 has been recently "Launched" but I mean come on, at the very least update your 13 inch line. I don't see why you would pay $2000+ for a Haswell processor computer with older technology in it today.

EDIT: Have been using windows all my life and have NEVER had a blue screen, or crashes or any big malfunctions happen to all the laptops and PC's my family and I have owned. The only problem we had is that our 10 year old laptop died this year because the RAM and was getting iffy

It obviously depends on the use, using it as a casual computer at home like you do, shouldn't be causing crashes or blue screens, but pushing the computer to its limits, like I use to do, I've had many many many blue screens in Win (my main OS for 12 years), and only 2 kernel panics in OSX (5 years as my main OS). A brief example: last day a producer came to the studio to render the tracks to mix and do the mastering. He had a blue screen just while exporting them from Ableton.
Things like that led me to try OSX, and I've never been happier since then. That said, I still use Windows on Bootcamp for programming and developing some Kinect stuff, and I'm really happy with it, I can do many things I can't do on a Mac or that would be a headache to do. Both systems have their pro's and con's, it's not about which is better but which is more useful to you.

This is exactly why I will have to look at a Windows alternative if Apple don't release updated 15" rMBPs either at or just after the March event. As stated earlier, I need to be able to get it this tax year...

Surely Apple don't want to lose customers simply because they are offering antiquated machines at premium prices? Because, that is what will happen...

...really? Well that's good. Thank you. :)
Answering to @MacRazySwe: for me there are a couple of reasons why I won't buy a 2014 MBP...

Yeah, no I get that. Obviously you wouldn't buy the 2014/2015 model now, at least not for full price. My response was directed to people already in possession of such great machines, who for some reason can't live without Skylake and run off to buy Dell/Razer/Lenovo/Whatever instead. You'd reckon these people would get more than 1-2 years from a 15" rMBP... I guess they're just bored.

I understand that people in dire need of a new laptop are becoming sick of waiting, on the other hand.

Now retailers are selling 2015 mbpr 15 inch with 512gb ssd and m370x for around $1900. I'm getting this right away if apple doesn't announce the new rmbps next week

you should wait... The 2015 is still using Haswell to my knowledge which is already 2-3 years old for their cpu. I would wait and get on board with skylake.

Dammit. If no Macbooks come out this event, I'm just going to have to fork out full price for the current one, no exception.

I've had enough of waiting. They said it would come out in October, so I waited two months (starting August 2015); no macbooks, just darn iPhones and iPads. Then they said December for sure; nothing, not even a price drop (Canada). Might as well wait until February right? since that's the 10 year anniversary; Nope. Alright, March event for sure - I mean come on, can't be over a year for an update right? I hope so, but not looking too good; probably another iPhone/iPad event (once again!).

Well, I already feel like such a sucker, I won't be tormenting myself with this nonsense any longer.

Who is "they"? You mean the people making up rumors? Apple said nothing about releasing them last year

Hey guys,

after purchasing my first Mac in late 2008 (Macbook Pro 15") I switched to a maxed out MacBook Air 13" in mid 2011. I have found the MacBook Air to be a very mobile and efficient device to use. The 1.8 GHz Intel Core i7 has definitely helped it survive for so long, it has however started to severely struggle.

Even after a complete wipe about a week ago, Microsoft Office applications unexpectedly quit and the lag is getting real across the whole OS. Watching BluRay quality downloads via VLC lag-less is impossible. Also the fans spool up and it still gets ridiculously hot. Before I carried out the wipe, I had the weirdest bug causing the screen to display weird colour spectrums on the lock screen upon waking it from sleep (sounds weird ha). When I entered my password it would now display the lock screen screen correctly, after briefly going blank, and I would now need to enter my password a second time to unlock the desktop. Luckily, the wipe seems to have solved this weird issue.

Apart from its general lagginess there are however a few other points I have really started to dislike about this particular MacBook Air:
- I am aching for a retina 15" screen. 13" is simply too little space for me sometimes and thus rather inconvenient.
- The resolution of the 13" display seems ancient in comparison to laptops nowadays. Fair enough, almost 5 years have passed.
- 256Gb of SSD space. Man, it really limits what I am able to store on it. I have given up on keeping photos in the iPhoto (now Photo) App. I can't wait to upgrade to at least 512Gb of SSD in a new rMBP 15". I am hoping that the 1Tb SSD upgrade might go down in price.
- After the initial battery of my MBA failed back in '14, I bought a new battery over Ebay and replaced it myself (bless the Apple repair costs). This one has now also gone faulty displaying "service battery". It's down to about an hour of battery life on a full charge. Therefore I am pretty much treating my MBA like a desktop PC now, it is exhausting.

As my laptop is probably by far the device I use most (for useful things at least), my MBA is really not living up to the task anymore. As a student, I want it to at least run MS Office apps or Matlab reliably. Back in 2015 I purchased the iPad Pro on launch date and it has really been able to take some load of my MBA. The pencil and smart keyboard make it a quite versatile tool, but it simply can't do everything as efficiently as a laptop can.

Bottom line: I really hope Apple updates their 15" rMBP next week on Monday. I am in desperate need of a new machine and fall 2016 does sound like an eternity. I am also unwilling to buy their outdated current rMBP, as I am expecting to maximise the period I can use my rMBP for. If I am dropping over 2500 Euros on a Laptop it better go for at least 4-5 years. Furthermore it would be nice to have the option to play the latest games, and what better than an Iris 580 to ensure that, that will be possible for a while.

Tl;dr: My MBA mid 2011 is too old, Apple better release new rMBPs next Monday

I know.. haswell is very old. But I need a really nice 15 inch laptop by may and Other laptops like dell xps 15 doesnt really attract me at all.

Same here bro. I've really need a 15 by May. I hope they at least give some statement that they will release by April or May. This laptop will be my main for at least 5 years.

Considering there are early 2013 (gen3 650M) for $1100 and mid 2015 (gen4 M370X) for $1850 I really don't think I can justify both waiting an indefinite amount of time AND paying $2500 for Skylake.

I had a Surface Pro 4 which was perfect for me, but returned it due to the many sleep and battery issues still on it. iPad pro doesn't work for me. I have a powerful desktop and PS4 so gaming isn't an issue. Only game I may play is Heroes of the Storm and the 650M can handle that.

So... why pay $600 premium to get Skylake? Question then is, do I want the early 2013 or the mid 2015 model. I don't value a slightly better GPU and +1 gen on i7 +2hr more battery worth $650...

...really? Well that's good. Thank you. :)
Answering to @MacRazySwe: for me there are a couple of reasons why I won't buy a 2014 MBP.
Consider I would buy a 15"
- The price: 2700 € for a computer that is 2 years old it's unfair.
- The durability: if I have to spend a lot of money on a computer, I want to take the best I can, so it can last more
- The ageing: consequently, if I buy now a MBP it would be old and devalued as crap in a couple of months.
- The GPU: those that fit in the current MBP are quite good, but the GT4 coming with Skylake looks really great.

tl;dr
For me, to sell a "top-of-the line" computer two years old for 2700 € is a fraud.
my feelings exactly!

This. This. This. While i know i can't 'sue' Apple, i personally find it morally / ethically reprehensible.

And don't even get me started on the salt in the wounds exchange rate+'aussie' tax!

Right now, the AU base rMBP w/dGPU costs A$3,799.00...AU$500 more than the US price. While i can accept some discrepancy in prices ~13% is too much to swallow while also knowing that i'm getting 'tech from 2013/14'.
/end rant :)

With all the muslim problems you have in your country and the rest of europe why are you even commenting about the U.S. You guys are about 10 years from Sharia Law. Enjoy the berka's

Those are some pretty awful things nicovh and you are saying. I think you guys should stick to talking about MacBooks. I know I am relatively new, but that is some terrible **** to say.

This is also exactly my point! Even with the fact I get a (pretty awesome) discount for being in education (around AU$3600 for the top-line 15" rMBP with upgraded CPU) I still can't fathom paying that much for 2 - 3 year old tech. Especially when there is going to be an update this year! For the same money, I can get a brand new tech laptop that runs Windows. Now, I don't mind Windows 10, but I do a little bit of video editing and have become quite accustomed to Final Cut Pro. And then there's another thing - I would have to pay through the nose on top of purchasing a new laptop so that I can get Premiere Pro! That is an additional ~AU$600+.

[Edit] Just realised that this is post 6446 - another palindromic number!

Where are you finding that for $1900? At that price I'd buy one now and just resell once the new ones come out.

Thanks for the link. You really think they'll drop that low? I figured $1800 (the new one will still run $2500 and I can't imagine the price difference between the latest model and the previous being $1k).

I would rather wait until next week and see what happens.
