If we look at the Misc. I/O ports, does that mean the Iris Pro 580 will only support 1 Thunderbolt3/USB-C port?!

Can someone, with more knowledge than me about hardware, elaborate?

It depends on the used controller. Most notebooks have a 1-port controller but other notebooks have a 2-port thunderbolt3 controller. It depends on the choice made by the manufacturer.

Not gonna happen. Macs are still giving Apple a lot of benefits, and Apple prefers to cover more market with more options, rather than reducing them. Just see how many Macs are there now, and how many iPhones (another new model is comming soon). So why ditch Macs to go only iPads, when these aren't doing any good? Imagine they erase the Mac line, but people refuses to switch to iPad as a main "computer", or sells just doesn't immensely grow on iPads, that would be catastrophic to Apple.
Add to that, that Cook said they would never merge iOS and OSX. Not like they said they would never make bigger iPhones, which is just another size, but more like they will never stop selling 2 different products (more benefits) that can complement each other, to sell just one (which is much cheaper than a Mac)

An Intel iPad with filesystem access is certainly possible with today's technology.

All I'm saying is that the " laptop" form factor is restrictive. The laptop is a design that we've ended up with more than anything.

Anyway, I will be buying the new MBP as soon the thing is for sale. Don't care how much it costs. Still on mid 2010.

Yesterday I visited my local authorized apple retailer, I bought a case for my brother in law's birthday. I asked the employee there should I buy the 13" rMBP or wait for a refresh/ redesign and if she knew anything about that, with a smile she replied that I should probably wait till after the infinite loop event. After that I am hopeful

The best I'd be able to get from an Apple store employee in Aus is 'We wouldn't know about a new model, would you like to look at the current model?' Not sure if they actually aren't told, or if they are just obstinate!

Hopefully thats a good sign. Most employees would probably be told to sell their current products

Gee, ikr! I can't remember how many times my friends and I have asked that question to Apple Store employees just to be given an answer along the lines of "we don't know anything about a new model". Ughhh it's so annoying haha

I have a friend who used to work at the Apple store and said that they are not told about new models beforehand. They find out the day they have to change the models on the floor or a day before launch at most. This was a couple of years back but I doubt Apple's policy on this would have changed. Telling thousands of retail employees would've given us some leak for sure.

They are not, so she is just saying the logical thing like everybody else on these boards.

But at least you got a smile out of it. We can't do that here. Except for this, but that doesn't count:

Delivery dates for Australia for a 13" MBP BTO were showing 24/3-1/4 this morning but are now showing 21/3-29/3.... the dates have come forward not gone back!

I noticed it too, any guesses as to why delivery dates have gotten closer?

Because we've all gone crazy in here.
The outside world continued to spin and those shipping dates actually ARE skylake MBPs,
it's just that we missed about half a year in here since the start of the year (yep, timecompression).
It's all falling to dust my friends.
All to dust. It already has.

Only problem is that 21/3 in Oz is only the 20/3 (or 3/20) in the US i.e. before the event! I doubt they will deliver them before they announce them...

If you order the current, you will get the current. I don think Apple would automatically upgrade you. Usually the current gets delayed when a new one launches because they ship around what they have on stock instead of just delivering new supplies everywhere.

About Apple only announcing a coming update(with a release date) on the 21st, did that ever happened ?
I mean for an update of an existing product, not a new one.
