They're not playing up the watchbands, the rumor mill is, i guess cause it was the only thing to mill for a long while

If new watch bands are the center of a press event, Apple really lost their focus as a technology company. There has to be something not yet predicted to "loop us in" and in my opinion that's neither watchbands, nor a low-end iPhone or a smaller iPad Pro.

I will say this. If they don't release Macs and it really hits over 1 year for a refresh, I'm going to absolutely ... keep crying. Lets face it, most of us are too drawn in to do anything else.

The one thing that keeps me stuck with Apple (and their ******** refresh cycle) is the cohesive ecosystem between iOS and OS X. I can keep working between my two devices so seamlessly that I'd never consider leaving. My iPhone and my rMBP are the lifeblood of my digital world and what I survive off of in the real world. Being able to send/receive texts/facetime on my rMBP is just one feature that is invaluable to me.

Rumoured, based on the specs from wikipedia:
- 2015 launch
- Chips will use the 14 nm process node. Expect some decent battery life
- Support for DDR4 memory
- Support for PCIe 4.0

I also think that this will be the model where dGPUs and Apple will part ways in notebooks. I don't think we'll see a dedicated GPU, even as a BTO option.

What are your thoughts?

Without a dGPU, I'll just buy the 2GB Nvidia-equipped 2014 Macbook Pro 15 Retina. All my work was on dGPU laptops and if they discontinue the BTO option of having me getting one, it'll be the end of me buying anything from Apple.

I hope Apple reconsiders leaving the BTO dGPU option in order for me to continue buying their computer products...

...I won't hold my breath...

and that's why I got the current rmbp 15 with the 500GB SSD and the dGPU. $1750 is a good price with leftover warranty and possibility to extend, I'm still thinking about that.

You are not making sense.

The iGPU option will be faster than the 2014 Macbook Pro 15 retina

Even if the 2016 15" is released with a dGPU. the iGPU option would still be better

I wasn't aware you can add storage in the way of a sd card to a mac. Good to know i see 128gig cards for 65$ on amazon

Yeah, that's what I did to my MBA to have more storage than the main SSD. They sell Jet Drive SDXC cards that are made specially for MBA, MBP, etc. and fit them perfectly not sticking out of the Mac chasis (like if you hadn't anything there).

Am I understanding this right and I could do the same thing with my mid 2011 MBA? The 256Gb are very limiting and thus I am just wondering whether my old MBA could actually use those 2GB/s.

Well I might have explained myself in a confusing way. No, SDXC won't go at 2GB/s (not even in the new Macs), but it's just another way of getting extra storage at similar or slightly better speed than an HDD (100MB/s). The benefits compared to traditional HDDs are less weight, less power consumption, and a drive that can be "permanent" or can be "removed" to plug it in another computer.

That guy wanted +2TB SSD in Macbooks as main storage but I highly doubt Apple will offer this option. So I told him just to do the same he did: SSD + Extra storage, but using an SDXC card to have more memory instead of having an HDD in another enclosure (impossible with the new macs). He would have a 1TB SSD going insane speeds for main software, apps and files, and extra storage going at a similar speed as a HDD for multimedia files and "trash stuff".

Its too bad that people have this fixation on dGPUs. iGPUs aren't perfect, but if they are providing comparable or even better performance without the need to worry about graphics switching, potential failure, and getting great battery life in bootcamp, I say good riddance.

I've been watching this thread for a long time. Just like someone said, at this point I would like the macbook pro not to be refreshed at all. I don't believe Apple would sacrifice GPU power in their pro notebook with some skyline integrated gpu. That means waiting for polaris. My dream come true would be some some amd XConnect integration like the razor blade, but like someone else stated, software changes means we will have to wait to WWDC. Like AMD says over and over, 2016 is supposed to be the year of VR, I just hope we will get some cooperation between those two giants. A pro product has to be able to create any kind of content.
I don't believe the next macbook pro will be just about a processor change, nor just some port changes. Apple has always give reasons in the past to buy the pro or the plus edition. Can be just the camera in the iPhone. Right now, the macbook has a better screen then the macbook pro, is way more energy efficient. So many changes, that the next macbook pro has to come with something worth the wait, a wow factor that Apple likes to gives us. Requires both hardware and software, thats why I expect nothing until WWDC.
Yeah, all my thoughts were just said.

I've been biding my time for a few years now. My home office is ready: a clean desk. A new 27" 1440p Ultrasharp. Mini DisplayPort and USB cables attached. Magic Trackpad 2. Wired Apple keyboard. And money set aside for my very first Mac.

C'mon Tim - don't leave my desk missing the essential piece!

I bought a 27in 1440p Dell Ultrasharp a few months ago and I'm already ready to upgrade to a 4K display... Except my current MBP doesn't support 4K.

How's an iGPU faster than a dGPU? In theory, it should be faster since it's integrated into the CPU but this splits the memory in half and therefore you can't utilize the VRAM fully. If you have a dedicated GPU, you can utilize the full VRAM.

More info please if you think "I'm not making any sense".

If the iGPU can accelerate my 4K video editing and compositing workflow better than a dGPU layout, I'm all for it.

I'm not against it...

How's an iGPU faster than a dGPU?

Basically, iGPU in Skylake (580) is likely to be very similar in raw performance to a GTX950M. And certainly faster than the 750M or M370X in the previous models.

Polaris & Pascal are on the horizon (next gen dGPUs that will be faster than the iGPU) but most rumours indicate these no earlier than Q2 - thus further delaying any possible rMBP update.

I was wondering about the inventory at release, since the macbook pro market is relatively small, do the macbooks tend to go out of stock quickly after launch? This would be my first macbook, I would prefer to wait a couple of weeks to seek out initial impressions before placing my order, but I am wondering if this would be a bad idea.

Okay, please tell me the whole "Loop" thing is not a reference to watch bands? Can anyone make me feel better?

I have been posting here off and on since October expecting a refresh while my 2011 mbp slowly was dying. Well, as of yesterday my mbp is no longer usable. I'm now using my iPhone for everything. At this point I will even take a refreshed rmb if it has a decent bump in specs. I just need a computer that... works. If no Mac is mentioned on the 21st I am ordering an XPS 15 later that day. I obviously can't wait.

This is getting ridiculous and Apple is getting smoked in the computer area right now.

I don't fancy myself sporting watch bands of the colors depicted in the invitation... maybe it's just me. The colors would look good on the iPhone or MacBook though.

Also can't help but notice that the apple logo in the invitation looks like the ones on the back of their devices e.g. MacBook Pro (heh) or iPhone SE?

A space grey MacBook Pro seems irresistible to me.

This reminds me of a guy that
saw awesome chrome rims and..... bought them........ then he's thinking...... what car should I get for those rims ? :D

And my Monday wishes are:
14-15" rMBP without dGPU with the weight of 13" rMBP and with USB-C, audio jack supporting toslink, at least one USB3; slight redesign (+space grey); the new keys & trackpad; Quad option; 16GB RAM; 256GB SSD or I may spend the extra for 512GB; and without misplaced keys (like the 12").

===

ops, I almost forgot...
Goooood Morning Guys !!! 'sup?

p.s. the coffee was awesome :)

Good coffee to all of you and happy waiting :)
