I'm confused now. After 3 consecutive logic board/discreet graphics board failures (1 on my 17" and 2 on my 2012 rMBP) I am starting to doubt the reasons why I switched to Mac's ( perceived reliability & longevity) - and I have started looking at PC's again....

So with the top end Dell XPS15 I get a 4K Touch Screen, latest 6th gen processor, 32gb of 2133mhz RAM, a 1 TB SSD, and a super advanced graphics chip.....all of which is user replaceable/upgradeable......for about 20% less than a mid spec rMBP 15" (with 512gb SSD)...!!!!!! Am I missing something?

How easy is it to get the OSX and other Apple software to run on the XPS...or is it a total ball ache?

The Dell looks awesome. But the config you listed goes for about $2850. Mid Spec Apple is $2499. The Dell is not as inexpensive as you make it sound. Darn sure would be way less with a 1TB and 32GB (if ever offered) from Apple though. Love the screens on the Dell, HATE the trackpads.

I would imagine that we get 14 and 16 inch MacBook Pros and for some awful reason we get the equivalent dual core Air processors in the 14 inch and the dual core processors that go in the 13 inch in the larger Pro model. I mean, if they are going to make this thing thinner than the Air, we have some limitations on space.. Ugh.. This is going to suck. :(

Thinner than the Air is only 2mm from the current rMBP thickness. Going from 1.8cm to 1.6cm still leaves enough thermal headroom. They'll just cut out some battery to make up space since Skylake offers greatly improved battery life.

3 more months to wait ....

Can they fit a HDMI, or Normal USB port, while still making it thinner? Looking at The current Pro theres a *little* metal around those contacts, but certainly not much.

Im not sure how I would feel about a 3 port USB-C / 1 Port TB3/USB3/DisplayPort MBP. I feel that might be whats coming.

Im very scared there going to put a 15Watt CPU in the 13" Pro. And that would... well, it would kind of be the end of it all for me.

They seem to be trending that way to me. The rMB line takes the Core M, the Macbook Pro's take the 28W/45W parts... theres a big performance gap between those two. If the air disappears, I find it hard to believe they dont fill that gap with something... and what better than the 13" Pro! Now its thinner!

Ideally the introduce a 14" rMB that uses a 15W and keep the Pros where they are. We will see. I dont really see how they can make the current models thinner without downgrading though.

If they make the Pro more like ****** Air, I'll buy the Razor or a Gigabyte laptop. That would end the relationship for me with Apple. I don't want things super thin that it'll be crap to use. Dual Core CPUs are so 2000 and I need a Quad-Core for my needs.

Maybe Apple will skip Skylake and put KabyLake 7th gen CPUs in their computers...one can wonder...

From the link: "But the likelihood remains that both Redstone 2 and Kaby Lake will be ready before 2016 comes to a close, which ZDNet was the original scenario first shared by the publication's anonymous Windows insiders."

I doubt Apple will wait for Kaby Lake, though. People (namely us) will be outraged.

No. It's not gonna happen. Intel has introduced Skylake June 2015, and proper 15" CPUs has come up just recently, and we won't see Skylake Mac up to June 2016, so no.
No Kaby Lake.
We don't even have benchmarks for the Iris Pro 580, why should be suddendy see Kaby Lake?!?

Some Surface Rumors on Kaby Lake

Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope. Nope.
No more clickbbait websites. Stop.
No Enjibada, no Ecumenical Sh*t, no more Latinos f*uck.

DO NOT TRUST THEM.
DO NOT READ THEM.
DO NOT EVEN CLICK THEM

UC YOU APPE MY EYBOAR IS NOT WORIN ANYMORE WAT ARE YOU WAITIN OR UPRAE TE OAM MACBOOPRO??!!
Yes as you understand sometimes my central letters stop working. No more d f g h j l k.
Come on, Apple...
Please.

Wonder if Build holds anything of interest. Sounds like they might get something Windows out, but maybe not the next Surface.

Would the time between first Kaby Lake CPU released, and the CPU wanted for MBP be less for Kaby Lake than Skylake?

Probably not. The chip appropriate for a MBP upgrade is not even out in the wild yet. It seems it will be out in May. You'd think Intel would have the chip live longer than a couple of months..

The latest roadmap shows no Kaby Lake chips suitable (HQ class GT4e) for the rMBP 15", this means that we will be stuck with Skylake until Cannonlake arrives in early 2018. Unless Intel decides to add a GT4e enabled HQ CPU to its roadmap we will be experiencing the same dilemma with currently have with Haswell. In conclusion, until further notice, no Kaby Lake rMBPs. So people can stop with the: "Skylake will be too old by then..." bs.

DisplayPort is the same height as USB A port, and I think HDMI is similar as well. The Air is thinner and still manages to fit the USB A port, so it's conceivable that they could fit one in a 2mm thinner MBP. I could also see those ports not surviving a refresh though, although I don't like the thought.

Seems to be that Kaby Lake will be to Skylake what Broadwell was to Haswell. Or perhaps not even. But first we need to get to Skylake.

Having Skylake when Kabylake is released is not having a 1 generation old CPU, since the next CPU generation that fits the same kind of computer wouldn't be available until 1 year later or even more, so you will technically have the lastest technology (related to quad-core laptops), once you get a 15" MBP. No matter how many Kabylake 4,5/15/28W chips they release.

Yeah, I went online to see how much they would rebate me for my in-perfect-condition, still fully functioning iPhone 5s 16GB from 2013... guess how much they said they would give me?

Go on... guess...

...

...

That's right - $0. Nothing, nill, nada, zilch, zero, zip. It is a joke! They will only give credit if you are trading in something that they can then sell for close to retail as a 'refurbished' model.

Take it into the Apple Store. We got $100 (I think even more, actually) for a 5c.

Apple Insider is now reporting the classic "supply chain constraints" from their affiliates, who of course have been having a fire sale on all macbooks, airs, and MBPs for the past few weeks. I wonder if the stores know as little as everyone else and were just assuming an announcement for macs yesterday.

I am betting on an update before WWDC. Apple has been moving away from introducing products at WWDC and if they are not doing a redesign, maybe they will just have a release like the update for the 15" MBP last year.

I would also bet before or after WWDC, but not at WWDC. WWDC is a developer show and the hardware message would steal thunder from new development tools and techniques.

Kaby Lake is just Skylake refreshed. It's not even really a new architecture.

SL chips are meant to be compatible with the KL platform. Not entirely impossible we see an updated chipset but with the SL processors in it for the MBP.

I think apple better make the redesign with skylake and at the worst part skip kabi lake for cannonlake than wait until early 2017 for kaby
