Skylake iGPUs in 10.11.4 OSX. Someone is already testing or something is coming.

4K iMac with Iris Pro HD580?
;)

I came to this thread wondering about this! Is there any information indicating which intel chips Apple is considering for the skylake refresh?

I have a late 2013 13" MBP and it's perfect for me in basically every way - with the one exception of graphics performance. The integrated Iris graphics are impressive, but unfortunately, they aren't quite up to snuff for my liking.

I think it's a very safe assumption that if Skylake MBPs are released, then the 13" model will use integrated graphics. Based on the benchmarks and other info I have read, the Iris Pro 580 sounds like a perfect fit for my needs.

I'm really hoping this will happen, but I'm probably dreaming. Does the 580 ship on any of the chips Apple usually ships with 13" MBPs, or are they reserved for higher performance Intel chips that apple would probably reserve for the 15" models? I want to stay at 13" but I'd consider changing it up and getting a big 15" for the Iris Pro. Basically, I just want the same macbook pro I have now, but I need better graphics and I'd prefer integrated because battery life is one of the big reasons I go with macs.

The iris pro 580 on a 13" - or even a 15" - MBP would be really exciting. What's the general consensus, is this possible, or am I dreaming?

Hd 580 will be 100% for the next mbp 15"
Hd 550 will be for the next 13"

Really?? That's terrific! Maybe it's time I consider moving to the 15". Let the countdown to WWDC begin!

As an aside, I wonder if Apple will even bother with discrete graphics on the 15" model. They'd have to go with a much hotter and power hungry GPU if they want to meaningfully best the performance of the new Iris. Or, I dunno, maybe a dGPU is necessary for some professional use cases?

JFYI Iris 550 to Iris Pro 580 is not the same as Iris 5100 to Iris Pro 5200 in 2013. Iris 550 has eDRAM while Iris 5100 does not. Relatively Iris 550 should be nearer to Iris Pro 580 than Iris 5100 was to Iris Pro 5200.

Interesting, so the 13" is being downgraded from a 28W TDP CPU to a 15W TPD class chip. Fortunately they kept 45W TDP CPUs on the 15", which is the one I care about. This won't bode well with Macrumors users', nor the "but this a PRO notebook" crowd. Now, it's being downgraded into an Air while holding its current name. Will be looking forward to the "time to look elsewhere" comments.

And...if they haven't found device ids for a new dGPU, we can surely say there won't be a dGPU option. Can already hear Jonathan Ive claiming how hard they worked "on shrinking the motherboard of the Macbook Pro, enabling the thinnest design ever".

No guarantee they'll keep it named 13" MacBook Pro, they almost couldn't if it was using such a low-powered chip.
Downgrade to 15W definitely makes it look like they're moving towards a more streamlined laptop lineup.
There's also an outside chance that they ditch the 13" entirely and go the 12", 14" & 16" route that some folks have suggested.

Thermals are ok, Power Environment(Supply) in current state is a bit... tight.

P.S. cTDP for those CPUs is 35W ;).

From technical point of view - there is nothing that could stop Apple from putting quad core CPUs with HD580 into 13 inch model.

But prices of them - thats what could stop Apple from putting them into 13 inch MBP ;).

Or not...
Dual Core i5 28W CPU with HD550. 304$ according to official pricing on Intel ARK site.
Quad core i5 45W CPU with HD580. 306$ on the same site...

Difference between Dual Core i7 with HD550 and quad Core i7 with HD580 is 19$

Thoughts? :D

As awesome as that would be, it's unrealistic to expect that.

Oh crap. This terrifies me. This leads a ton of credence to the idea Apple is going to make the 13" pro their new ULV 15Watt machine. No no no no no :(
Or they would do 15 inch model the Pro.
13 inch would be Air.

Or they would do 15 inch model the Pro.
13 inch would be Air.
Exactly, but they wouldn't call it that. It would be sort of the spiritual and "silent" successor to the air whilst holding the Pro moniker.

This story is getting more epic by the day. When he drops the tidbit about the geek bench scores posted a while ago, I knew that model name was too suspect to be a hackintosh. Everyone complaining about lack of official updates from Apple but someone over there is dropping clues :) if you know where to look.

Yeah that seems likes the most plausible option. 12, 14, 16 seems consistent.
