Hello boys.
Here we go again.
As much as I don't like Oppenheim behavior, somehow I like his crazy talking.
I mean, as long as we don't take him seriously, we have sometime funny to do while we still wait.
Whenever I read his (or her) posts, all that comes to mind are my past art history courses on DADA and surrealism...

Meret Oppenheim was one big troll...

The MBP is about the future

Now that's a really interesting theory!
And that's also why that nickname was somehow familiar to me...
I have to admit, if he's a troll, he's doing his job really well.

What??

I guess you haven't seen this http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-systems/razer-blade or it's little brother http://www.razerzone.com/gaming-systems/razer-blade-stealth .

Both absolutely stunning and sophisticated designs. The Blade is a perfectly capable gaming machine and the Stealth is an amazing ultrabook with gaming capabilities (in combination with the Core).
Show me a Razer design that didn't originate in a fourteen year old 1337 gamer's notebook.
That logo of theirs is as garish as it gets.

Yeah..........

I've got a 5820k self OC'd at 4 Ghz with a H105 liquid cooler on it, an MSI 980 Ti Sea Hawk, an X99A Raider mobo, 32 GB DDR4 RAM and a 1080p 144 hz monitor (gotta cut back somewhere) in a Corsair Graphite 780T with 5 SP120, I'll tell you right now that my keyboard and mouse don't mean jack (but I like my CM Devastator). Razer has yet to put me in shock and awe. They are very appropriate for the Alienware mindset. You want convince gamers to go to windows, start talking about your custom build.

The MBP is for high performing people who operate at or near the cutting edge.

Hint: "high performing people" need to be able to connect to monitors and TVs in a variety of situations.

If you think every HDTV and monitor will suddenly sprout a USB-C port within the next few years, you haven't been paying attention to Thunderbolt, Mini DisplayPort, DisplayPort, Lightning, Firewire, or the various other ports Apple has promoted.

We already have usb-c monitors

Well. Why can't I buy a Razer Blade with 1 TB? Also why can't I test a Dell PC in a shop?
I gave a quick look to the laptop available in my local store: among the many, there was the HP Spectre 360 (really impressive, but a bit too tiny for my likes) and the Lenovo Y700, both features impressive features (high resolution displays, touchscreens) at a reasonable price. But I'm still waiting for Apple to make something that I really want to use and to preserve the things that I already like, like a clean OS (I was an old time windows user, but I can stand windows anymore), the best trackpad ever, CoreAudio and so on. The quick tour at the shop was useful to understand what could be done one day by Apple.

What are you talking about?? If you painted the MBP black and covered up both logos you wouldn't even notice the difference in the machines. You tell me then, what exactly is the difference you see besides the logo and color in the two?

Did you realise Thunderbolt 3 is the same as USB C? Well not the same but better: can handle USB protocol and many others (HDMI, PCIe...), and do it way faster. All this, using the same connector type

There's no point now on prefering USB over Thunderbolt, and the old arguments like "USB is more common, it has more peripherals, its peripherals are cheaper..." are now worthless.

But there are practical limits to Thunderbolt 3. Alpine Ridge, the Skylake controller, only supports 2 ports for instance. So either Apple is going to only have 2 USB ports total (I really doubt this), they are going to mix USB-C and TB3 ports (possible, but potentially confusing), or they are going to maintain USB3 normal sized ports and mix them with the 2 TB3 ports.

Will be interesting to see which they choose.

People like you were whining similarly when Apple ditched DVD drives from the portable computing lineup.

HDMI is a good standard. Unfortunately they omitted power from the design. It's also not reversible. It's bandwidth is lower and unlike USB-C it's restricted to video only.

HDMI is not fit for future needs. The MBP is about the future, not suiting the current masses with their Dells, their Microsoft PCs, their "smart" TVs and what not. Apple leads. Others follow. It's always been that way. If you don't understand this, then save yourself $1000 and go call a Dell tele-sales rep who'll get you a good deal! You'll be happier and the Apple community will be cleaner. The last thing the Apple dev community needs is a load of fat 40 year-old C# and Java programmers flooding in looking to "do things the way we've always done things".

Wow. What a weiner post.

Apple really care about you and your legacy peripherals and your 1 MB/sec SD card collection containing your holiday snaps.

The MBP is for high performing people who operate at or near the cutting edge. From what I've read from you and the silly accusations you're throwing around, the cutting edge isn't for you. Your place is elsewhere.
Wow, I want what YOU are smoking!

Care to provide another example of an existing Apple device (the re-launched MB does not count as "existing") that has gone through as many changes in one upgrade period as what you are proposing the upcoming MBP will go through? There is no way Apple would risk implementing all of these changes on a device that has many legacy users. They may get there some day, but not in one upgrade cycle. Your assertions make no sense, and if you really followed Apple at all you'd see how inconsistent this is with past behavior. Wishful thinking doesn't equate to reality.

Sure the MBP has a touch of conservatism about it's design. But it's still very much on the innovative side.

The 2016 MBP will be a major revision. There's been over a half dozen minor refreshes of the 2012 model already.

The groundwork has been laid by the hugely successful MacBook. People need to stop complaining and get used to the new all-USB-C/no-wired-headphones/no-SD-card reality. Soon you'll be thanking Apple for it and wonder how all these flimsy connectors and highly specific standards lasted so long.

Honestly, can you as a grown-ass man whip this out in public without dying of shame?

Where does the misconseption that gamers want computers and peripherals with garish colors, LEDs and agresive shapes?
No subtletly, no understated design, just loud noise.

I'm quite a hardcore gamer, well, used to be, and I've always hated "gamer" products.
You know why I never present myself as a gamer in public?
Because of ***** like this and pro CSGO teams called Booty Clappers.

...without that logo I would have seriously considered that laptop a couple of years ago, though. :D
These days I just want a half decent Skylake iGPU in a 15" "good old fashioned" Retina Pro.

I realize that I'm a terrible grump-hole, so I've chosen a more fitting avatar.

I'll throw my musings into the mix again to see how you people think about it and if I'm alone with my musings or not. I won't comment on the recent debate with Oppenheimer, everyone in his right mind can judge for himself what to make from it all.

Right now I'm struggling and questioning my whole choice of productivity tools. With Apple on the backburner and seemingly focusing on lifestyle rather than on pro-market products one can only wonder and eye over to other offerings of hardware which led me to questioning the "PRO user" market in itself and not only what Apple is doing.

I'm wondering, what are professionals in different fields really working on? I mean... don't get me wrong but when using Windows, even Windows 10 which is a nice step up, I fear for the integrity of my system and my data constantly. With Mac OS I feel secure, safe and Time Machine on top of all that is just the icing on the cake. But... you know. I'm really wondering, what do photographers, graphic designers, webdesigners and thelike work on IF NOT on a Mac? I see things like wonderfully thin and capable laptops all over the place, be it the Asus Zenbooks or the Lenovo X's only to find that they all have some weird limitations or gimicks. 8 GB Ram max, really? Ultra-HiRes Screens with Touch? I know opinions may differ but except maybe for a sales rep or people holding keynotes in an awkward way I see NO professional benefit from a touch screen, yet alone on a laptop. I see NO benefit in those Ultra-Hires Screens on a Laptop. I understand Retina and such on smartphones and tablets for crips text and readability, but for productivity on a Laptop, I don't see the use of a Resolution FHD+ on a 13" screen (or sometimes even smaller). I'd rather go for the battery life over the resolution and opt for hooking the thing up to some nice 4K Monitor when working stationary. But that's just me.

And that's my main problem really. ME being ME. Yep, I'm that kind of awkward, but to put it simply and bring an overall already too long post to an end, I'm "happy" and most productive when I got exactly what I need. Not less and ALSO nothing in excess. I despise going for "fully loaded" just for the sake of it, I rather have something tailored to my needs, the closer it comes to 100% the happier and "less cluttered" I am. Yep, I know... But still. I'd rather have a 32 GB phone than a 64 GB phone, despite the fact that the 64 GB phone is exactly the same as the 32 GB phone but my average usage of storage on my iPhone is around 28 GB, so... you get my drift I guess. Also I don't want to lug around a 17" workstation Laptop when I don't need it, but I want my 16 GB RAM minimum, 512 GB SSD PCIe, I'd prefer a Full HD 13" or 14" screen with MATTE display over a superglossy retina+ mirror but I won't find this with Apple for sure (no KO-criteria though, just wishful thinking) and all of that in a reasonably priced high performing sleek and professional looking casing.

If Apple goes the way of OVERsimplifying and taking away PRO features (and yes, headphone Jack and SD card reader ARE pro features, at least for now) only to make it thinner with same or even less battery life, I think that would kill it for me.
Unfortunately, I lack any alternatives. Getting used to using Windows 10 is bad enough, but I don't even see the hardware I'd like out there. So... yep, maybe I should go back to sketchpad and a pencil... :(

Anyone else feel my (admittedly first world) pain?

FOR THOSE INTERESTED IN A SIMILAR WORK-LAPTOP like me:

I've done some more research and found a possible way for me IF Apple disappoints me with the new Macbook Pros. Dell offers an option of their XPS 15 with NON glare, NON touch, FULL HD Infinity Screen, all bells and whistles including a 512 PCIe SSD, 16 GB Ram (user-upgradable to 32 GB DDR4 Ram) and a nice quad core skylake i7! Just for your information. And all of this below 2000 euro (without tax, in Austria). If I could only live with windows this looks like a REAL alternative for ME personally.

I kinda feel ur pain.
Right now there is no Mac I would buy without really regretting it a little bit.
Thats why im stuck to my MBA11" 2011 4GB model. 4GB are way too less for my 4 Parallels VM's.
I just want the new rMBP 13" with 16GB RAM, Skylake i5, TB3 and if possible, bezel free retina display. (had the xps 13" in my hands. What a nice machine.)

Well. For me the Win10 OS Design is ahead in terms of design. Folders, icons and stuff are looking disgusting in OS X to be honest. Nothing really fits together. But like u said, thats just MY opinion. ME ME ME ! :)

I could use win10 without problems. But yeah, I would miss my Mac. Especially in terms of Design (Hardware) and some software functions. (and the fact that osx is unix. i hate windows for not being unix-like :D )

Yep,
same here. I love that Mac OS just works. In most cases anyways.
But I'm also really thinking about switching my whole ecosystem over. Like... trading in my iPhone 6 for some Sony Z5 compact... or maybe not, I don't know. I just feel like I want LESS stuff. LESS features I don't use. Pay LESS. I don't know... I've been clearing out my basement and cupboard from clutter the past few months too, and it's like getting rid of a burden. Also clearing out those pesky monthly subscriptions to stuff I don't really use at all (maxdome for example). And generally speaking... I feel better when my STUFF revolves around my live and not the other way round.

You know, there are these things called stickers....

As a grown-ass man you could even promote the company you work for!!! Or just spray paint the cover, do some real man work in your garage. Whammy!

But I do understand what you mean though. I do think it doesn't look as "professional" and formal as the MacBook Pro's.

Now say it with me everybody:

Honestly... yes... the logo is a bit "in your face" but in a way... so is the Apple logo.
The keyboard... you can set up to use a uniform color. They just use this to show that the keys are individually lit, and have RGB LEDs.

Other than that... I think it is a very nice looking machine. I'd MUCH rather get this out in a business meeting than our company machines: DELL Precision. They just look fat, ugly... and LAST century! Since the PowerBook G3... notebooks haven't been this boxy and horrible.

I understand what you're saying, and agree for the most part. But the Razer Blade series are aesthetically pleasing, I wouldn't be embarrassed to whip one out in public! The rMBP design does have more class though, I'll give you that.

Have you ignored my profile or are you just avoiding my questions? o_O
Do you care to share some proofs about the "huge success" of the MacBook? Like, some sale numbers?
And once again, would you please explain to me what are the device you're using that absolutely and only need the USB-C?
Then, I will get used to the new shiny amazing USB-C all-around port, as long as the devices with that port will become more common. And this is something that can't happen in a couple of months.
So I don't really see the point of getting rid of all the "flimsy connectors" just to have in exchange another one bulky adaptor...
