Have you ignored my profile or are you just avoiding my questions? o_O
Do you care to share some proofs about the "huge success" of the MacBook? Like, some sale numbers?
And once again, would you please explain to me what are the device you're using that absolutely and only need the USB-C?
Then, I will get used to the new shiny amazing USB-C all-around port, as long as the devices with that port will become more common. And this is something that can't happen in a couple of months.
So I don't really see the point of getting rid of all the "flimsy connectors" just to have in exchange another one bulky adaptor...

If you insist on maintaining your 10 and 15 year-old legacy peripherals (for whatever reason), then it seems like a pretty elegant solution.

Frankly, I don't want all these holes in my machine just because there are guys like you who have SD cards for their digital camera and want to connect their laptop to an old Sony LCD TV or whatever.

you missed the thread. This one is yours - Skylake CPUs for next MB. (merged)

Bye.

Honestly... yes... the logo is a bit "in your face" but in a way... so is the Apple logo.
The keyboard... you can set up to use a uniform color. They just use this to show that the keys are individually lit, and have RGB LEDs.

Other than that... I think it is a very nice looking machine. I'd MUCH rather get this out in a business meeting than our company machines: DELL Precision. They just look fat, ugly... and LAST century! Since the PowerBook G3... notebooks haven't been this boxy and horrible.

Dell Precision 'boxy' ?
Times are moving on...

...are you maybe trypophobic? "Oh my God the holes! The holes! Take them away from me!!"
This perhaps could explain why you're so reluctant to answer my questions.
And before you try once more, writing again "blaaah blaaah blaaah future blaaah oh my god guys you're so mainstream and old blaaah blaaah flimsy blaaah old old blaaah" it's not a legit answer.

Then buy the current MacBook, problem solved.

I almost opted for the Dell XPS 15 last fall when I was in the hunt for a new machine. The specs were great, the screen looked gorgeous, and the design of the computer is very eye catching as well.

That's the new design for the Dell Precision...does look a lot like the XPS...but with a higher spec/cost than the XPS...

Hopefully I'll be able to wait for the new rMBP and compare machines..

I actually opted for an iMac given my mobile needs are satified with my Surface Pro. I decided the Dell, mostly because I didn't want to lose out on running OS X. With the iMac I can run both OS X and Windows. Still the Dell computer was on my short list.

Just don't feed the troll, that's all.

The SD slot in my Macbook Air is actually my second hard drive, up to +2TB of storage (as fast or even faster than a 7200RPM HDD) in a tiny slot that doesn't even outfit the Mac chasis. And there I throw all my stuff that wouldn't fit in the main SSD (sound libraries, virtual instruments, movies...). Isn't that amazing? Obviously Apple will get rid of it, so you'll have to go to higher storage options thus having even greater benefits, not because the SD slot is a bulky slot that doesn't let them make the new Macs 3mm thinner... That's how Apple works now: thinness and design as a great excuse for getting rid of anything they don't control/take benefit from.

Angry youth. Makes me glad I'm one of those "older" people.

Honestly, can you as a grown-ass man whip this out in public without dying of shame?

View attachment 624158

The logo, the colored keyboard lights, the bright green USB-ports, everything black.

*DAMN KIDS GET OF MY LAWN TANGENT ALERT*
Where does the misconseption that gamers want computers and peripherals with garish colors, LEDs and agresive shapes?
No subtletly, no understated design, just loud noise.

I'm quite a hardcore gamer, well, used to be, and I've always hated "gamer" products.
You know why I never present myself as a gamer in public?
Because of ***** like this and pro CSGO teams called Booty Clappers.
Christ.
*TANGENT RANT END*

...without that logo I would have seriously considered that laptop a couple of years ago, though. :D
These days I just want a half decent Skylake iGPU in a 15" "good old fashioned" Retina Pro.

I realize that I'm a terrible grump-hole, so I've chosen a more fitting avatar.

Absolutely as a grown man I feel wonderful using this in public. But then again, the thoughts and opinions of others has ZERO bearing on what machine I decide to buy. If you notice my last machine.....

I just bought a Dell xps15 upon hearings Microsoft is adding Native Linux support in Windows as a kernel subsystem, able to execute Linux binaries. To me, the only reason I used Mac is because it's BSD based thus POSIX compliant meaning I can test my server side stuff locally such as Redis, since it's relatively easier to port Linux app to Mac OSX. I don't really enjoy OSX user interface and would prefer Windows anytime if it weren't because of this. Now we can run real Linux binary natively on Windows, which is even better than running a BSD version of it on OSX, why bother with OSX? Windows 10 here I come.

Guys. Do you think Nightshift will come to the macs? This would be great I guess!

Older Dell precisions didn't look like that and they are boxy. Dell is reaching so they ripped a page directly out of Apple's playbook. Acer and HP have done it too.

I dont really understand how making decides smaller and thinner, when the technology allows them to make things smaller and thinner, is "ripping a page" our of Apples playbook. They all build what Intel allows them to.

I had tried f.lux some time ago and it had issues with my 2008 iMac. After getting Night Shift on my iPhone, I thought I'd give f.lux another shot. Much improved. I can't speak to the blue vs. yellow light difference and better sleep for me, but I know that the yellow tint makes it a lot easier for my wife to fall asleep when I'm trying to get caught up on cat videos. So at least one of us is sleeping better....

Yep. 10-15 year old legacy peripherals. Like my 3-½ model-year-old mirrorless camera with SD card. Or my 4K monitor that uses DP & HDMI with an integrated USB3 hub that was released 15 months ago. Or my 2 year old Toshiba hi def TV that uses HDMI. Or my 1 year old soundbar that uses USB2, or my 6 month old external HDD that uses USB3 or my brand new Colormunki that uses USB2. These legacy ports are NEVER used by ANYone anymore.

I'm all for tech advancement and early adoption, but you are missing the point. The MB only has 1 port because it's positioned as a hybrid mobile/desktop device -and- was a re-introductoin NOT an evolution. It's meant for people who can get everything they need from the cloud. It fills the space between iPad and MBP.

I can't profile my monitor via the cloud, nor can I get images off of my camera card via the cloud. If you want to use the "no floppy" example of the iMac, it's because there were plenty of software titles on CD by then, AND plenty of peripherals if you still needed floppies. Maybe you want to point to Apple not including DVD drives on the MBP. Again, Apple had gone to an internet-based software distribution system and had strategically shied away from BD, so in their world, physical media was getting less and less important. And again, there are plenty of peripherals, some even made by Apple. But to remove all legacy ports all at once from their pro line? Ain't gonna happen.

Again, if you really studied Apple and saw how they have operated year over year, you see that they typically DON'T incorporate multiple game-changing technologies on their bread-and-butter core lineup (in this case, the MBP in their notebook lineup). Look how long FW400 and FW800 were on the iMac. Look how long the 3.5mm jack has been around. Look how long it took to phase out 30 pin connectors, and these were on devices with a much shorter life cycle that the MBP.

Will it eventually happen? Sure. And the US is moving to the metric system...

Well they look like that now and as you can see, are certainly not 'boxy'...is that a bad thing? Apple have ripped loads themselves to make better products.

I hope it makes apple raise their game.

Hey guys,

super interesting article by the German newspaper "Die Welt". I have not yet had the time to translate it properly, but it basically talks about how Apple is neglecting its most loyal customers; the Mac Users. It even makes a mention of macrumors, referencing the numerous "DON'T BUY" tags in the buyer's guide.

For the german speaking members:

Quite funny, really reflects the general mood in this forum. Hurry up Apple!

Peace

Just sold my MacBook. Now in standby mode. Trying to just use an iPad Air 2 until the launch...

I really do think OSX needs a major UI update, it's looking increasingly dated, hopefully a major refresh later this year.
