12-13 hours on the FHD 84Whr battery
4-5 hours on the 4K version
7-8 hours on the FHD 56Whr battery

Seriously? 12 hours on the FHD...
Im heavily tempted, I could basicly fit my whole workload of a day onto one charge of batt.
Still. Windows. But I'm making progress with my "workarounds" for things I'm used to function out of the box on my mac! :D

Hi folks,
Having to go through another UK financial year end in the UK with only old MBPs 15 again as my only options, when is an update likely to be coming? been trying to follow to see, but am at a bit of a loss as to quite how long this is going to be? Any help much appreciated

those are test under web browsing so based on your workload this will drain faster. but i guess no matter what you do, the battery should last 5-6 hours

Nobody knows, but best guess is WWDC, June 13-17.

I really feel for those just barely hanging on with their work machine. My laptop is just about done, but it's not a work machine. I'm anxious for an update, I can't even imagine how those people feel. For a lot it's business related and that means their livelihood. It seems like many are in that situation on here.

I've given up with my 2009 15" C2D lol, now I just use it plugged in at all times :(

same. Early 2008 Core-Duo here. I could buy another replacement battery and pop it in, but the last one didn't even make 200 cycles so why bother.

Thank you, it always seems that I need a machine when "it's just a few more weeks"

I am going to try to patch the next 2 months on the mobile front, but its going to be hard going making some excuses, it will all be fairly analogue for a bit! but see if they don't announce in June or if they pull another shipping in 4 months effort, this may well be it for replacing the MBP.

Apple use to always keep their stuff running along at the front line, I don't really know what is going on with the computer side of things, I went to the buyers guide here and everything in the Mac section is don't buy, its all (except iMac) overdue. Some of us really do need computers and ones that can go the distance for the investment.

Just as Apple introduces new technologies and brings them across the line:
SSD's, Retina, Force Touch (3D Touch)
So too will they bring the technologies created in the rMB to the rMBP.

as mush as i hope so, for what i saw thus far, the adoption of new technologies across the whole product lineup has been widely inconsistent in the last years.
latest example, the true tone display of ipad pro: there in the 10", missing in the 12" (i'd be outraged if i had the latter as of today).

other examples:
- still missing a lightning to usb-c port, you know, for those who have a macbook.
- lack of any usb-c in any other product released after the macbook (imac, appletv).
- broadwell on 13" mbp, haswell on the 15".
- only usb 2.0 on anything except the ipad pro 12", not even the smaller ipad pro... (256gb storage and no usb 3.0? seriously?)
-and so on...

what do you mean? there is a lightning to usb-c port, usb-c is on appletv 4
but the mac lineup(except imac and mac pro) will be updated at WWDC im sure. i bet even the mac mini

Wrong.

Apple TV 4 has USB-C
- broadwell on 13" mbp, haswell on the 15".
Wait for redesign.

Eh, I suppose you can have this one.

I'm glad you said that, I was this close to purchasing a replacement battery on Amazon last night. It was one of those cheap third party ones but thought better of it at the last minute. I figured it would just last me a couple of hundred cycles and then be just as bad

Early 2011 MBP. Just coming up to 700 cycles, battery capacity hovers between 55-65%.
Lasts about an hour usually on battery - not great, but hey ho. Almost pulled the trigger on a 2015 13" rMBP last year, but decided to wait. Hope it's worth it...

At least the battery on your unit is easily replaceable. Sadly, I risk bodily harm in trying to replace my battery, otherwise I'd of gone through with it a year ago (at the very least to help with re-sale).

Eh, that's for the rMB. We want the rMBP!

its not just for the MB ! they were thinking if for the macbook as well
They said to be the first MAC because i guess the update will be a silent one until WWDC and MBP

my bad, i missed the news about the lightning cable! (let me at least say: it was about time!)

you're right about waiting for a redesign to introduce new ports, i mean, that's apple way of doing things..

does anyone have a record of previous/current macbook code numbers?
what would a 9,1 be?

I've bought two cheap batteries for MacBook Pros for people I know in the past - both expanded after a month or two and stopped the Trackpad clicking. In the end, had to get Apple to replace it.

Another third party iPhone 5s battery caused the screen to pop out after it expanded.

I haven't had much luck with cheap replacements - unfortunately it seems you have to get fairly expensive ones (eg iFixit parts) or have Apple do it.

time ago i borrowed a broken iphone 3gs and installed the battery on mine, the broken phone had been lying there months, after few hours from charging, the battery started expanding and the screen popped out of the case.
swollen batteries happen when they are left without charge for long time and then one tries to recharge them. (it only applies to recent batteries though.. my old ipods kept on working even after years off!)
i read this is a design feature, the outer shell will not break/leak if the battery expands, in order to prevent hazardous chemicals to be released.
maybe a chemist could enlighten us on what's going on in there!

LOL same here

There are really a lot of people with veteran Macs waiting here.
Come on Apple, schnell! Release the damn Skylake MacBook Pro!
Guys, where are you getting these screenshots from? I want to test mine.

sad part is it was OEM battery I picked up at the apple store, but by the time it died (i was primarily using my work MBP) it was well past warranty.

Hey, check it out.
Nvidia just unveiled the GPU for the redesigned, 16", Xeon, detachable 4K touchscreen, ultra thin MacBook Pro.

http://arstechnica.co.uk/gadgets/2016/04/nvidia-tesla-p100-pascal-details/

Of course the same GPU will be available in the new Apple Magic Box external GPU.

Free delivery by the Easter Bunny in Santa's sleigh.

...
Bahahahaha!
Snark and sarcasm might be the lowest fort of wit but it still warms the lump of coal in my chest.

Is the back cover in unicorn-fur still available?

I guess we're entering again that time in the thread where the lack of rumors drive us crazy and we start posting memes and cats pictures...

God I love you guys. People like you make following this thread bearable.

This is how the battery on my 8 year old Windows laptop is doing:

Repupjo.png

4 minutes is an overestimation, I expect no more than 2 minutes until it dies. It's still very useful when the cable is accidentally pulled out or when I want to change power outlet. :D

About the MacBooks, does the battery usually get that bad? I have a 5 year old iPad 2 that I have used for about 5 hours almost every day (it's my main computer) and I still get about 8 hours of battery life. I thought newer batteries didn't usually degrade to less than 60-70% of the original capacity.
